Nutrition Nutrition basically means having a good diet and getting good exercise. To have a good diet, you should eat mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy proteins, and healthy fats. You should also drink water instead of sugary drinks and alcohol. You could also use the Healthy Eating Plate as a guide to eat a more healthy, balanced meal. The recommended amount of fruits and vegetables each day is about half of your plate such as; corn, apples, pears, broccoli, carrots, and green peppers. About a fourth of your plate should be filled with whole grains, such as, whole wheat, barley, oats, brown rice, and whole pasta. Around another fourth of your plate should contain protein. That includes fish, beans, chicken, and nuts. You should also try to limit yourself to red meat, and also try and avoid eating processed meats, such as bacon and sausage. In addition, you should have healthy plant oils on your plate to eat, such as canola, olive, soy, peanut, corn, sunflower, and others. Try avoiding partially hydrogenated oils because of the unhealthy amounts of trans fat. When people say “You are what you eat,” it basically means, to be a healthy and fit person, you also need to eat a good nutritional meal. Vitamin supplements are not a substitute for a healthy diet. Most people take multivitamins as “nutritional insurance.” Some examples of vitamin supplements are: Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, and K. There is also Folate, Iodine, Iron, Selenium, and Zinc. Antioxidants can actually lower the rates of getting cancer. If you have a balanced diet, you do not really need to take vitamins. The average amount of calories you should eat in a day is 2000. I was averaging around 2,671 calories a day for four consecutive days. By doing this food log, I have learned that I do not eat the healthiest and I should probably start eating healthy. I should also try taking some vitamins so that I do not have to eat as healthy and I can still get some nutrients. I could try eating more fruits and vegetables every day. Or eating some more protein, such as steak or fish. I could not eat as much oils that are fatty. I could cut down on the amount of candy I eat in a day. I could also stop drinking so much pop and breakfast pizza that has tons of calories and saturated fat in it. To sum it up, I should eat a more healthy diet and try to work out more to get fit.
Secondly, as recommended by Canada’s food guide I need 8 servings of grain products daily. I tried to make variation between products. For instance, I added whole wheat pasta, which contains 348 calories of total. These products are the main source of getting calories in my healthy diet plan.

One way that I can modify my diet is by adding more nutrient rich foods. Cut out junk foods including chips, candy, cookies, cakes and other unhealthy snacks. I can also instead of going too fast food restaurants make a salad, or make healthy lean cuisine dinners that contain all of the food groups. Eating fruits can also be a way to ensure I am getting the nutrients that I need. I could fix a cup of my favorite fruits which is pineapples and strawberries, I should also make sure that the fruits are fresh and do not have any added sugars or preservatives. It would also be helpful if I slowly take the unhealthy foods out of my diet and replace them with the nutrient- rich foods, because I feel if I just completely change my diet from what I am used to I will be harder to do. I also need to add vegetables to my diet because I rarely eat vegetables. Ways that I can add vegetables to my diet is by steaming them, grilling them or baking them. Or when I go to restaurants instead of getting my usual French fries with my meal I could instead get a side of broccoli, corn or steamed vegetables. Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. While I was tracking my eating for these three days, I began to learn about the benefits of the food that I am eating and the nourishment that they provide for my body.
