The field of nursing is a career that has interested me for years now. It has become a very popular specialty of healthcare to go into each year for many adults. After working in healthcare at Marietta Memorial Hospital for a few months in the lab and the rest as an ER technician, I have come to the conclusion that I want to make the next step in my career and pursue to become a registered nurse as a profession. My father has been my biggest influence for me to pursue registered nursing as a lifelong career. He passed away this past May from strokes, and for the past few years I would help take care of him, make sure he would take his medications, and educate him on what would go on at his doctor 's appointments and what was going on when …show more content…
Being able to take care of people is something that I wanted to do as a job when I was a child. As a child my parents bought me toy doctor kit. My father has been a diabetic since he was a kid and I would always do a check up with my toys and I always said he would be okay. I 've always been interested in healthcare since I was a young boy because I would be able to take care of and help people who are ill. Throughout this past year when my father was in the nursing home and in the hospital, I would learn what was going on with my dad from a medical level and then talking to him he would not be able to understand due to his dementia and I would be able to explain things to him so he could understand. The aspect of everything going on and talking to him about so he would not be more worried or upset made him feel more better and relaxed. Having the ability to do that with the patients I come in contact with each day is very rewarding to do that each and everyday. The more I do that the more I learn for myself and the patients I help take good care of …show more content…
There are endless possibilities in which someone can work as a registered nurse. From the hospital to nursing home, there are many institutions and specialities to work as a registered nurse. In a rural area, there are a few hospitals that have the basic necessities to function, numerous nursing homes, and some urgent care facilities. In a urban area, or big city scene, there would be a lot of big universitiy hospitals with a lot more specialities than a rural city would have such as level 1 trauma care to neonatal intensive care and still have all the nursing homes and urgent cares. If one career doesn 't seem as exciting or fulfulling as thought of before, one can pursue to work in a different specialty or different setting instead of an acute care setting to a physician 's office setting. Also one can further themselves in their career by working in a rural level 3 trauma center emergency department here in Marietta, Ohio and want to further their career and education by moving up to Columbus, Ohio and working at Grant at a Level 1 trauma center. Having the opportunity to advance my career and go on the limb and work in a field that can further myself and learn something new everyday is another reason I want to become a registered
Growing up, I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare field, but I never knew exactly what job I wanted to take part in, until I discovered how broad a nurse’s specialty could be. A Registered Nurse can work in any age group or focus on a certain system of the body. My mother works in the health field as a medical transcriptionist. I became interested in the health field by her many stories she shared with me while she worked in the hospital. She taught me a lot of different things. My family history inspired me as well to join the medical field. My grandma and great grandma both suffered from breast cancer and my grandpa suffered from throat cancer. Becoming a Registered Nurse has been my dream for as long as I can remember. This dream became real to me when my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in her life. I now have what drives me to be a Registered Nurse and to learn more about the career itself so I can help people out live all the odds against them.
Growing up as a child, I had many struggles. From being raised by an aunt whom I did not always get along with, to not knowing my parents, and hating school, it is easy to say that my childhood was not the best. However, I always knew that I wanted to help people; to make a difference in people's lives. That led me to the decision to become a Registered Nurse, otherwise known as an RN. The procedures completed by Registered Nurses can be lifesaving. Before entering the nursing field, one should examine the salary and benefits of, educational requirements, the job description, as well as character requirements.
There are several titles you may receive when pursuing a degree in the nursing field Including advance practice nurses such as nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. For this paper, we will examine the job title, for that of a registered nurse ADN only. This shall include a short definition of the occupation itself.
One of the greatest accomplishments of my life is earning college degree as a first generation graduate. With complex family background, my parents always focused on education that they interpret it as “an infinite opportunity if you work hard with good ethics, do no harm, and stay compassionate towards the dream.” Earning Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Connecticut (UConn) and passing NCLEX was the beginning of my proud achievements and a journey of lifelong compassionate care.
What is a registered nurse (RN)? According to Merriam-Webster, it is a nurse who has graduated from a college's nursing program or from a school of nursing and has passed a national licensing exam. An RN is above most other nurses except a nurse practitioner. In most aspects they also excel than other nurses such as their salary, position in chain of command, and job security. This is not simply because of their job title, but what led them to earn the superior perks are the extended years of school, experience, and previous training.
I am from a small town where everyone knows everyone and you always lend a helping hand. In my work environment, I will hold to my hometown values. I will always help when I am needed. I will have a smile when I walk into a patient’s room and I will try to make the patient and their family feel as comfortable as possible. I will be there to help my patients, but I will remain professional. I understand that I may have a patient that I know outside of work, but I will not let this change the way that I treat them. I will still place them on the same level as the other patients.
I chose these goals because I believe that they are relevant to my current professional role as a registered nurse (RN) staff and to my future career as a nurse leader. My first goal will assist me in understanding the different quality improvement goals and outcomes in the institution; hence, motivating me as a nurse to advance my current practice and deliver better patient care. Moreover, this will increase my knowledge on prevalent evidence-based practices that I can utilize someday to conduct my own quality improvement research. My long-term career goal is to advance my profession and become a family nurse practitioner. Since I want to manage my own clinic in the future, my second goal is directed to learning about the responsible handling
Nursing is one of the onerous and highly demanded professions in the U.S. as they work to promote good health and prevent illnesses. Registered nurses (RNs) inform patients and the public about various medical conditions; treat patients and help in their rehabilitation; and provide guidance as well as emotional support to patients' families. RNs use substantial judgement in providing a wide variety of services in our society. As other future nurses, my main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an intrinsic desire to help other people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives being challenged, so nursing suits me as few other careers that offer as much diversity and learning opportunities. Registered Nurses
After I had graduated high school, I felt assurance and certainty that I would stick with the major I had chosen regardless of how difficult it could become to obtain it. That plan eventually changed as I realized where I wanted myself to be wasn’t the path I had chosen.
The career of nursing is a distinctive place in the American Health Care System. Nurses work in diverse settings and fields, in which they have an important role in our health care services. It is fairly common for one to think that nurses have one job description and they all do the same work. In general, nurses deliver a variety of services to the community. Nurses are there to provide service and cater to the sick, advocate healthy and fruitful [1] lifestyle, and prevent injuries and diseases (“What Does a Nurse Do”). Nursing is a great career with a variety of jobs within it and caters to different skills people might possess and different lifestyles people might live or want to live. With that being said, many wonder about how to become a nurse [2], what nurses do on a day to day basis, how much nurses earn, and the job outlook, so they can determine
Nursing: To me, being a nurse is far more than just a job or even a career. In my future, I plan to become a nurse and to even think about it is immeasurable to me. I can’t wait to be looked up too and to even be called a “life saver”, even though I may not save everyone, just the effort I will give will mean the world to me and hopefully the families. I love helping others in need or just in general, everyone goes through a tough time and needs someone to run too.
I know that this is for me though. I have the desire, passion, and courage to become a registered nurse. As a high school student I was able to take a three year course of Health Occupations. In that class I learned basic health care knowledge and became NOCTI state certified. So what that means is that I am able to go apply for a certified nursing assistant job, or a nurse’s aide job and have the qualifications for it. I took it upon myself to become First Aid, CPR, and AED certified. Also while I was I that class for the three years I was able to go on internship. During my time at the hospital I knew I loved that job. I was able to shadow a few nurses and really get involved, well the most that I was allowed. But the hard work and dedication the nurses put into their job shows. Especially when they love it. I did see some who didn’t have the heart for it but I guess that reflects more on them. Plus, it taught me what I didn’t want to be like as a nurse. I enjoyed my experiences with the health care field and I am ready to continue my journey of becoming a registered
I have been interested in health care professions for most of my life, but more specifically with nursing. My interest in nursing has grown more this past year after I had a conversation with a nurse. She told me that she loved her job and that it was satisfying helping people everyday. She also went on to tell me that it was never boring and that interesting things happened very often. I have researched about careers in nursing and I believe that I would enjoy it because I think that it would be great to be able to help people. Nursing is much more than just a career. To me nursing is helping and bettering the life of the sick or the infirm. Nursing is the practice of providing care for the sick and is a healthcare profession that plays an integral part within everyday life of people around the world, yet many do not know that there is much more to nursing than just that.
My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. This career appeals to me because it embodies what I strive to become, a person of influence, a guide, a respected adult, a mentor, and a person that can be trusted and looked up to with great passion. Another reason for selecting a career in nursing has a lot to do with my current job position at Generations Elder Care. Working with the elderly community at this personal care home has enriched my life in many ways, including one for my passion of learning more about the nursing field. As I shadowed the nurses entering the facility I watched them do their assessments on the residents which has peaked my curiosity. I believe being a nurse presents daily challenges which are unique, interesting, and rewarding and that is another reason why I want to become a nurse. Knowing that I have helped someone in some way possible gives me a feeling of fulfillment and enjoyment that I never understood or had before. And this career offers just that, and that is exactly why I...
