After doing my work experience at the Craigton Road Day Care Centre for elderly people, where I enjoyed talking with and caring for vulnerable, confused and apprehensive people, I felt that working with the patients and staff really did improve my communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. Working and listening to the patients and their struggles made me realise that a health care profession was the correct career path for me. As a nurse, I need to be able to work as part of a team and deal with emotionally charged situations, have patience, understanding and a caring attitude towards everyone. I feel that I have the correct skills and responsibilities to be able to fulfil this role. I took a particular interest in nursing as I want …show more content…
I am a devoted and confident person and want to be able to make a patient feel strong and confident and give them the correct knowledge and support in order for them and their family to make good healthy living choices. I have developed strong communication and observational skills both on my college course and in life in general so feel I have the ability to answer questions and give advice to the patient and their family if needed. I know I will be required to deal with very difficult situations but I do have patience and an understanding and a caring attitude towards everyone. I know I would need to develop these skills as a nurse. I would like to do work that is realistic, hands-on and worthwhile and nursing offers me this. I intend to understand the vital role a nurse plays in different environment areas. I know it will be important for a nurse to meet deadlines. By becoming a nurse, I look forward to playing a positive role in helping shape the NHS for the future. I try my best to keep up with current issues in the Health Sector by reading health section in the Guardian
Being accountable to me as a professional is saying yes to the call and responsibility we have to bear out. It is a responsibility we take for ourselves and for others who rely on us to be present in any situations. The mission requires an openness to relationship with others. The consistency of performing at a higher level each time the job is done and strive to give all for the greatest good. In collaboration with others involved. That bond can strengthen when everyone involved intersect their effort to the same purpose. The skills acquired over the years as a bedside nurses give me an opportunity to be dependable and trustworthy. Knowing what to do in difficult situations and being intuitive is a plus. It can help in a managerial position
I have had the opportunity to care for wonderful individuals, each of whom have contributed the fabric of my personal nursing career. Nursing is a profession of both joy and sadness combined. My career has provided me the opportunity to care for those I need. In retrospect I can say that my personal nursing tapestry is comprised of patients who were grateful to a care team, after being revived from suffering a sudden cardiac event, the smile of a trusting child, a hand to be held while working with hospice patients and their families. My current role is a case manager. I seldom have direct contact with patients who have chronic illnesses, yet I am gifted with their trust. I have been given an opportunity to support, care, respect, educate, collaborate and research practice improvement initiatives. I continue to formulate my own nursing philosophy daily. While I experience daily encounters that allow my tapestry to become more colorful and detailed, I allow myself to set new goals. My final nursing goal, is to become a nurse practitioner. I can see myself in the next year working in an academic capacity in becoming a leader in rural health improvement and proficient at educating patients with diabetes and other chronic conditions, speaking at national events, advocating for patients and playing an active role in health policy. In five years I can see myself being ready to embark on another
Mary started her journey to become a nurse after graduating from high school. She always had a passion for helping people and caring for them. Mary had an opportunity to become a nurse’s aide. She really enjoyed it but thought that she could do more for her patients. So Mary decided to continue her education. And soon Mary became an enrolled nurse. She loved the sense of satisfaction in the end of the day when she was capable of making someone’s pain to go away or simply making her patients happy by bathing them and putting fresh clothes on them. But after saying this Mary wanted more responsibility and more involvement in her clients care. So she took bridging courses and after 2 years Mary became a registered nurse. As a registered nurse Mary has got unlimited possibilities of changing her current role. There is no need to stay in the same a...

Prior to entering the professional role of nursing, a nurse should also determine the principals and personal values that will guide their nursing practice. Personal values, past experiences, and influences of other nurses are what attract many to the profession of nursing. Nurses have a profound impact on the lives of their patients, their families, and the community. Nursing is a constant process of building a prevalent knowledge base while maintaining a sense of compassion and empathy for those during a time of need. Nursing is more than a career, it is an art form that is continuously being molded by personal experiences and the gain of knowledge; what we do with it is that defines us as nurses.
I have experienced many trying times in my life and I have grown through them. These experiences have given me the ability to adapt to different situations. I do not look at certain situations as problems; instead I see them as challenges that will help me grow as a person. This quality will be extremely useful in this position as a nurse, because I will try to overcome any obstacle thrown my way. I have been in the hospital with sick relatives and have dealt with mental illness in my family. Therefore, I feel I can relate or at the least sympathize with my patients in such a hard time. Also, I will not let my personal life interfere with my work. I can easily set aside my personal matters in order to do my
My grandmother’s nurse served as an inspiration for me to pursue a career in nursing. When I was sixteen years old, my grandmother had her left knee surgically removed and replaced. After such a severe surgery, a nurse was called at my house to assist my grandmother for a few weeks. During her short stay with my grandmother, the nurse showed my father and me how to administer injections and medications, as well as how to act if my grandmother became unstable. It was astonishing to watch the nurse work so compassionately and genuinely care for a complete stranger. Not only did she directly contribute in enhancing my grandmother’s health, she was also able to provide our family with hope and confidence. Always having an interest in healthcare,
Who I am is a brand new nurse that has entered a different environment of healthcare compared to my previous work of the pharmaceutical industry. I am a person who has always had an interest in helping people, doing amazing things on a daily basis and learning consistently. In efforts to fulfill my interest; I became a nurse through the many obstacles and sacrifices that were faced. To my very core, I am a person of great ambition, empathy, confidence, and value respect. I practice nursing in a hospital environment caring for patients on a medical-surgical floor. How I practice nursing is by providing education to patients, learning the material through experience, carrying out provider orders, taking care of
The goal that I have set to achieve over the next five years is to become a registered nurse working in a ward at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. This is something I am passionate about doing and have allowed myself five years to complete this goal because first, I require three years to complete my nursing degree, and then have allowed myself two additional years to gain the experience and specialised skills required to move into this position. There are numerous skills that I must acquire to work as a registered nurse. For example, I must be able to; develop individualized patient care, collaborate with a multidisciplinary health teams (Kourkouta, & Papathanasiou, 2014), practice both safely and ethically, critically think, manage heavy workloads, and perform clinical skills (DeWit & O’Neil, 2013). Currently, I have minimal knowledge on these nurse specific skill sets. However, by engaging in the bachelor of nursing degree and placement opportunities offered, I will be able to develop these skills as well as enhance my own skills of communication and memorisation to aid in my career in nursing. In addition to this, I plan to seek additional work experience and volunteer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital because it will give me exposure to the communication between health teams as well as connections to critically thinking nurses and future employers. Finally, Evidence has
Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. This long term sickness inspired me to gain more experience outside of the home and volunteer which confirmed that this was the right course for me. I am fascinated by the practical aspect that the course involves as well as the theoretical
Initially I thought that nursing was a career that can be taught. I felt nursing was only science and once you had mastered the science of nursing you could become a competent nurse. Since fall my view of the profession has changed drastically, I am starting to realize and appreciate the uniqueness of each quality that develops the art of nursing. For instance, I thought nursing knowledge was limited, once you have graduated nursing school you would have gained all the knowledge necessary. I now realize that knowledge does not only come from books but also from experience. With accountability, it is important for me to be able to admit to my mistakes. When I admit to my mistakes I grow as a nurse and as a person as I am able to learn from my mistakes. When being an advocate for my patients, I must not allow my own biases to interfere. I have to acknowledge my own biases so that I do not neglect care for my patients or make biased assumptions about patients rather than advocating for their needs. I always thought that sympathy is a universal value in nursing but rather empathy is. As a nurse I must understand the patient’s situation in order to be efficient rather than being sensitive to their situation. I also realize that it is very important for nurses to be adaptable as they face different and unique situations every day. I have concluded that a nurse is never done
It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...
First, I would like to start by stating that my expectation of a nurse is that he or she must be a good communicator, emotionally strong, empathetic, patient and calm, pay attention to detail and have good physical endurance. I feel that I possess these qualities which would make me very successful as nurse in the future. I have dream about being a nurse since I was a little girl and as a young adult, I still have the desire to be a nurse so I can help others. My desire to become a nurse evolves from past experiences that have taken place in my life; for example, my father’s death, my illness, personal experience and interaction with the hospital staff, specifically, the nurses.
Registered nurses have a high level of respect in the medical field for quite a few different reasons. Considering nurses help save lives and care for people in their time of need, there exists a pronounced deal of pride nurses have because of what they do. Registered nursing is my dream career, but in order to become one, I must accomplish multiple goals and meet various requirements. First, I must meet the extensive educational requirements needed to become a registered nurse. Second, I will need to make sure I can meet all of the job requirements-both mental and physical. Lastly, nursing offers various personal benefits both in and out of the workplace. For these reasons, I believe nursing is the ideal career for myself to work with.
