Gender inequality, a social problem that is common all over the world, still exists and has a negative impact on our American society. Gender inequality remains a major barrier to human development because it allows unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Despite how we live in an advanced society now, our perception of gender treatment is halted in the past. Although many feel that men should receive better treatment in education, work, and at home because they are perceived as the ‘breadwinners’, not the women, nonetheless, some feel that women are equal and should receive equivalent treatment regarding education, work, and marriages. Due to that role that is embedded into our society pertaining to males and female gender, women are the largest minority, due to these gender inequalities in the work force. Although many believe that men are more superior to women since they are the “bread winners” and, this does not hold true to all families. Women today are becoming more empowered and are beginning to evolve. They are just as capable as performing actions that are seen as a “man’s job”. In addition, since women were not given the same opportunities that men were given, it is clear to see why women are not seen as “breadwinners”. Women are not paid the same amount as men are. It is an issue that affects everyone, and people have to realize that women are stronger, smarter and involved with the world much more than they were a half a century ago. The controversy with this issue however, is that many people don 't believe that women belong in high-powered positions. Many men believe that women aren 't aggressive enough and strong enough to handle the sometimes-high pressure that comes with some positions. Others believe that women are better off taking the traditional gender role and staying home to take care of the family and household chores. Men only do 20 to 30 percent of the housework, and this is the expectation of many people on society today.
