Is giving students excessive homework beneficial? Excessive homework is not beneficial to the students; the amount of homework is causing more negative effects. Well what is considered to be too much homework? Studies have shown that too much homework is considered to be more than two hours per night, and that large amounts of homework excessing that time can be counterproductive (Levy). More than two hours of homework is not beneficial, and it can lead to students not having any extra time to do activities, having health problems, and even making homework counterproductive. Students are finding themselves not having time to do other activities with the large amounts of homework they are receiving from their teachers. Large amounts of homework has been said to take a lot of time away from interacting with others, which could even lead to social alienation (Levy). Students are taking their time away from family and friends to do their homework. Excessive homework causes students to give up time with their loved ones and activities, and that could lead to social problems. The stress, the lack of sleep, and even depression are only some of the health effects that large amounts of homework can cause students. After two hours of homework, it can start to be counterproductive, which makes it lose its purpose. Some people might disagree that large amounts of homework is bad, but in reality it has more negative effects than positive.
