Fahrenheit 451 is about the United States turned narcissistic. The government has eliminated all things that will or could cause thinking. They think by doing this people will be happy. Honestly they are even more miserable without books or good movies then they are with those things. They are controlling all thoughts, anyone with hidden books is arrested and all books are burned they are destroying all history by doing this. If people cannot be happy for what they have and they always think negatively then that is their problem it should not be reason enough to take every thought away from everyone or even the choices. They do things and do not question anything, they do not wonder why should books are burned? What is in books that the government bans any reading? Does reading really affect some ones happiness? Maybe the government got caught in the heat of the moment, or maybe they got caught up in all the power. Bradbury’s main character Montag’s becomes confused, and starts questioning his entire life and beliefs and all these questions start when Bradbury introduces Clarisse the energetic and curious seventeen year old girl. When coming across Montag the first time while he was walking home, she asked him a most puzzling question, “Are you happy?” and walks away without waiting for an answer (Bradbury 10). He dwells on that question at first thinking it was a silly question. This is when he begins questioning his happiness and comes to the realization that he is in fact not happy, but he cannot figure out why. He starts babbling saying he can get books, Faber is too coward though he feebly tries to discourage Montag. He forgets that there is a war waging; he gets caught up in the heat of the moment. Faber is doubtful and cautious this man whose job it once was to burn books finally speaks his thoughts, “To see the firehouses burn across the land, destroyed as hotbeds of treason.
