Nursing is not about how you can change the client, but how you can improve their health at the same time respecting their stature. Providing care that incorporates morals, holistic, empathetic and culturally sensitivity is what I view my philosophy of nursing to be. To me, that means being compassionate, caring, empathetic, and trying to discern human beings on all levels of wellness. To understand these levels, which are the ultimate relationships between humans, their environment, and health, the nurse must show care to them. Therefore, nursing is an art of caring. Nurses should provide care to their patients that implement accuracy of care, promote patient advocacy, and uphold respect. However, Nightingale theory includes four metaparadigm concepts of nursing, but it primarily focuses on the patient and the environment. Florence Nightingale is recognized as the founder of modern-day nursing. Her environmental model centralizes on the aspect that on the strength for healing inhabit within the individual human being and the objective of care is to place the person within an environment that is a succor to this process of healing. For example, to utilize this theory in the nursing practice, the nurse would provide an environment that reduces noise and uneasiness that would help the patient sleep who has returned from a long extensive surgery. In Selanders (2010), Florence Nightingale expressed that, “The nurse is responsible for maintaining the environment in such a manner as to maintain the health of the patient.” This is inevitable on my floor because we receive a lot of post-op brain surgery patients that requires rest for a couple of days to assist in the healing process. It is important to be respectful at all time, honest, accountable for actions, disregard any personal judgment when providing care that may conflict with my beliefs, and provide care that is safe, patient-centered, and holistic. Moreover, it essential to keep current in knowledge and skills as nursing continues to evolve for the better. My current influences including my positive outlook on life, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn new things, and the ability to offer optimism to patients and families would expand for the better. While every nurse is unique in their way, I just hope that my personal values I have in my daily life can positively affect the way I conduct myself while on duty as a practicing
