Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. Writing doesn’t come easily to me, which must make me a glutton for punishment. It has taken me years of training, learning to structure an essay and unlearning to begin again. Only since attending HSU am I realizing how exceptional my writing has become. Over the course of two semesters, I have seen my writing expand and grow. While I still adhere to the training I received in high school, I am excited to now take these tools and develop my own unique style in the years to come.
During my first semester of college I was enrolled in a freshman English class. I began to notice college was nothing like high school. In high school I could wait till last minute to complete an essay and still get an A on the paper with little to no effort. When my first college essay was due I waited till the day before to finally sit down and start writing my paper. I turned my paper in with confidence thinking I was going to get an A. We received our papers back two days later; I was stud to see I had gotten a low C on my paper.
I have to admit that I will not look fondly on my high school career. I spent most of my study time going out with my friends. I felt that I was paying my dues with the eight hours of boredom that began most of my days. Until now there were only a few classes that I enjoyed. In retrospect, I believe that it was my inability to choose the classes I took which resulted in my lack of enthusiasm on the ride to school each morning.
many people personally told me that people change for the better or the worse during high school, but i never believed it was true. looking back on my high school years i noticed that what they said was actually accurate. it all seemed strange to me at first because i 'm not the type of person who lies and manipulates others to become someone 's friend. but within those four years i became aware of how quickly people can switch up and change. like how the person i thought i knew acting completely different. but many others were, so i realized that my biggest mistake in high school was letting friendship change my actions and get to me.
I concluded my 8th grade year with 9 a's and 5 b's, contrarily my 9th grade report card included 5 f's and 3 d's. "Your mistakes do not define who you are, you are your possibilities." - Oprah Winfrey. This quote reflects my high school journey because though I've made innumerable mistakes throughout high school thus far, and continue to make mistakes by not prioritizing my education, I refuse to give up and I will not let my mistakes make me.
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
Wasn’t as easy as people assumed it sounds. None of my brothers and sisters graduated from high school so being the first was a big deal and the closer the time came the more I realized just how much of a big deal it was. I started thinking about college early on as a freshman but I had to learn in order to make it to college I had to pass high school first. My High School life has helped shape the way for my college experiences that I will face. My senior year in high school is not the same as many other high school students. I am taking many advanced classes to help me prepare for college. These classes help me better understand exactly how much harder I must work to succeed.
The issue become extraordinarily worse and overwhelming for both the student and their families during the time getting their degree. While going to college students have to find a job anyways to pay for basic necessities such as Ramen noodles because of how ill prepared their own parents are for the future. Since these students don’t possess a college degree, or if they don’t have any real work experience in the field they are going into beforehand, have to take a low quality job just so students do not end up going hungry by the end of it. There will be little in the way of assistance from the parents of these students as they attempt to save up enough money to retire by the end of paying for the exceedingly high price of their student having
The transition from middle school to high school is an amazing journey, one which will finally bring out your true self. It’s a whole new experience of not only learning, but also the campus, students, and faculty. “Beep, Beep, Beep!” It was six o’clock in the morning and my alarm clock woke me up 4to prepare for the first day of my Senior Year. I slowly arose from my deep sleep and strolled toward my closet as if I were a snail. After twenty minutes of contemplating heavily, I finally reached a decision on my outfit. My outfit consisted of a navy blue and light brown elephant print kimono, a pure white blouse, light brown flats, and a silver triangle shaped Aztec necklace. To my surprise the clock struck a quarter to seven, leaving me only moments left to get ready. I jumped into the shower and then prepared for the day I had ahead of me.
As I look back on my life, I can truly say that I am grateful for the opportunity to start again. My family flied our war and politically torn country of Eritrea four years ago, seeking shelter here. Through my parent's struggles to build a better life for all of us, I have gained a deep appreciation for hard work and dedication which I applied to my education to achieve my dreams.
Growing up, everybody gets to learn that the real world is not a fantasy that’s easy to cope with. While I was growing up I believe that life was really easy; not until I reached 12th grade. That’s where I got to learn how to be independent, and work hard to earn my things. 2015 was the year where I got a little taste of the real world.
