“How Life Changes by every minute My educational journey has been like a roller coaster. I have been in the worst spot of my life time. Where I hate going to school but, also think about my father education. My career goal is one of my most important in my life to better myself than I am today tomorrow I will better than yesterdays. My education began in fifth grade, my parents moved from one location to another. It wasn’t easy for me, because school was the first place I ever got to interact with other kids. Before school started, I was pretty much kept indoors and not allowed to have contact with other people, except for my family members. In six grade, I had to interact with other kids. I slowly learned that I could talk to them, by the middle of the year. The learning in that class in the middle of the school year wasn’t the greatest. I learned a lot and grew a lot during that year, from being scared in the beginning of having friends in the end of the year. I had a great teacher named Mrs. Sandoval who really gave me the help I needed. In Seventh grade it was a whole different story. A fixed mindset is a person with different mindset that care about other things than school. Sometimes students are fixed mindset tempted to do some learning, but at the end attended to do the same as before. Also worry about how much different they are from other students. Growth mindsets believe that intelligence is a potential that can be realized through learning. Students are ready for the challenges they receive. It was not until I read Carol S. Dweck’s “Brainology” that I realized I had a fixed mindset. I care more about getting a 4.0 than actually understanding what I am being taught and I also hate struggling. These habits are part of having a fixed mindset. It was after reading this article that I discovered I could change my mindset and be successful. Having a fixed mindset means that you believe that you and others only have a certain amount of intelligence. A growth mindset on the other hand, is believing that everyone has the ability to reach a higher level of intelligence through effort and hardwork.
There are many attitudes that form certain mindsets. Some of these mindsets can change how a person does and perceives things. Some mindsets that can do just that are Dweck’s example of a growth mindset and fixed mindsets. According to Dweck, a fixed mindset is one in where “.. students believe that intelligence is fixed..” and a fixed mindset is the “..believe that intelligence is a potential that can be realized through learning. As a result, confronting challenges, profiting from mistakes, and persevering in the face of setbacks become ways of getting smarter. Because people with growth mindsets can through setbacks, and find alternatives to better themselves; They turn to perseverance and hard work to achieve their goals.

First, students usually fall into two different types of groups. They are the fixed mindset, and the growth mindset. Tracy Cutchlow explains these different mindsets: “....She found that children fall into one of two categories: those with a fixed mindset, who believe their successes are a result of their innate talent or smarts…...Those with a growth mindset, who believe their successes are a result of their hard work” (2). These mindsets are formed by credit given to them either based on talent or effort.
Have you ever thought about yourself if you are in the fixed or a growth mindset? A fixed mindset person is someone who overcomes obstacles, works hard, and failure does not stop them. On the other hand a person who is in the fixed mindset is someone who is non challenge, gives up, or thinks that success is abuse. In a book called “Mindset The New Psychology of Success” the author Carol S. Dweck talks about different ways we can convert ourselves from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset and the author also talks about the qualities of the growth and fixed mindsets. In a movie“Freedom Writers” the author Erin Gruwell shows us how she was a growth minded teacher but her students were in the fixed minded group. Throughout the school year the students had a fixed mindset but as time went by the students somehow their mindsets into the growth mindset. Freedom writers illustrates the fixed mindsets of the teacher and students and a growth minded teacher who changed everything.
Everyone wants to be successful but success depends on individual mindset. In the article Brainology, Dr. Carol Dweck’s explains that growth and fix mindset play role in students success. Growth mindset students aren’t afraid of failure, they embrace challenges and believe that efforts are what lend to success. Growth mindset individuals and students believe that mastery comes from failures and efforts. Fix mindset students is afraid of failure and don’t like challenges.
This means students with a fixed mindset hold an implicit belief that a person is born smart or dumb and stay that for whole life. That can lead to cancellation in the face of difficulty. Having a fixed mindset basically means once you experience failure you will start to think “ I suck at math” “ I give up” “ no matter how hard I try my grades will never go up because I’m a horrible test taker so I’m going to fail regardless”. People with a fixed mindset think you’re either good at something or not because it’s just who you are. A fixed mindset implies that our abilities are unchangeable. Whereas, A growth mindset implies that we can always get better at our abilities. To have a growth mindset means that you want to get better and you will not stop until you get to where you need to be, Once you have the effort to do something you can be anything you want.
For Kindergarten my teacher was Mrs. Gomez who was really nice. She was the first one to show me the “My little sunshine” song. Her classroom was really easy to find since it was two turns to the left and one to the right. We had a giant lunchroom that is probably the size of Gulf Coast Middle.
...g kind of praise creates self-defeating behavior. The right kind motivates students to learn. This leads us to two kinds of mindsets that students can have that effect the way that they look at learning and growing: fixed mindset and growth mindset.
For those of you whom this document is intended for, I assume that you already have a basis for as to what a growth mindset implies for students. However, as the research shows a growth mindset can be difficult to achieve in the classroom without a full understanding. A growth mindset is one that offers a student the chance to further grow their skills and abilities in a field of study rather than see that student hit a wall where they believe nothing new is left to learn or improve upon (mindsetkit). When students with a growth mindset arrive at a blocker in their learning they do not give up.
These mindsets have a large impact in our lives including my own! Even though a growth mindset is the ideal mindset, I consider myself to have more of a fixed mindset than a growth mindset.
By the first two days of school I had said enough “hi I’m James”’s for me. I met many new friends and enjoyed having them in my classes. Some friends that i met in sixth grade turned out to be some of my best and favorite friends I’ve ever had. The first day of school everyone was making me feel very uncomfortable but by the time I made it halfway through the year it was all fine and i had made many friends. To this day I still enjoy hanging out and seeing all my good friends at school every day.
Throughout my educational journey through secondary school and college, different personal learning experiences have shaped and developed who I am as a student by gaining many important academic skills that I believe will be invaluable at university and beyond in my future career. At secondary school, my favourite subject was English Language and 10% of my GCSE grade came from my Speaking and Listening presentation. One academic skill that I developed was researching. I researched many different interesting topics, using a variety of different sources; for example, the internet and also the books and facilities at my local library.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
