Imagine moving to a whole new country without any type of idea of what this new place might be like except things heard from family,movies or even the media.The first idea most immigrants get when they arrive in a new country is how to fit in and what are the important values and customs in this country.Most immigrants have heard of America from Television, radio and any type of media and have many ideas of what it would be like in America before they even arrive.Some immigrants even believe that moving to America would be the hardest part.Immigrants adapt to the American experience through Assumptions about America,Moving to America and after they arrive,Learning to acculturate to America.

Most immigrants believe that they have to be “American” to be able to move up in society socially and economically and to be able to conquer insufficiency in a new culture and language. This is important because it means immigrants in the majority chose to cling onto false social hierarchy about the unknown because it is the only thing they know. This makes at least part of the idea about immigrant assumptions very clear. Many immigrant birth countries are at war and are subjected to violence. Many immigrants before coming to America could have been subjected to anguisd then, they come here hoping to start a whole new life, finding out that coming to America was not the hardest part. This is important because it shows how bad immigrant life can be before coming to America. For example, Tori De Angelis writes in “Helping New Americans Find Their Way” that “Their challenges are enormous: Not only must they adjust to a new culture and language as well as overcome discrimination here, many come to this country after having experienced multiple traumas, such as war and other forms of violence in their countries of origin.’’ This important because it explains why some immigrants come to America with different perceptions of what life here is like.
