Religion plays a huge part in our world today and allows people to worship in the way that they wish. There are so many different types of religions and gives people endless opportunities. Monotheistic religions played a huge part in the rise of cities and urban civilizations. The word monotheism comes from the Greek, monos which means one, and theos that means God. Therefore, monotheism is the belief in one god. Three religions that follow monotheism are Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

One very popular Muslim holiday is Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar, during this month Muslims are expected to fast during the day. This is a time for Muslims to pray and fast in order to increase their religious devotion. This month is considered to be the most holy and most important month for Muslims. Traditionally Ramadan was the time that the Qur’an was considered to be revealed by the prophet Muhammad. Some people consider Ramadan as an unhealthy holiday because it is not good to go without eating for that long. By not eating for a long time people can make themselves sick and they can feel bad all day.
These three religions have both similarities and differences. The main similarity these religions have in common is their belief in only one God therefore, they are all monotheistic. The religions also all believe that God sent prophets to the universe to teach people. All these religions require people to have moral code and obey rules that was presented by the prophets. Another similarity is that all three of these religions pray even if it is in different ways they all have to pray and worship.
