“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.” -Steve Maraboli, Life, The Truth, and Being Free. Successful people keep their eye on the goal they set. If they encounter obstacles, instead of focusing on them, they find their way around it by keeping their way around it by keeping their goal in mind and up front. It is a mindset of courage which makes it easier to pursue success. This is key and how your mindset matters. A mindset of courage makes it easier to pursue success because you must have the courage to meet you obstacles head on. This is easier said than done. However, those that desire success keep their eye on the prize. There are always obstacles in your life and you are bound to meet a few when trying to reach your goal. This is when a resolute mindset is needed. For example, if one of your goals is to earn a college degree, but you do not believe you can afford it becomes a challenge. If you have a negative viewpoint, then you may believe it is impossible to overcome this challenge and reach your goal. However, if you have a mentality of courage, then you will realize that you can overcome this trial. If you …show more content…
My personal goal for this school year is for my grade to refrain from dropping below a ninety in any of my classes. This is an extremely important goal to me since it’s my junior year of high school and I want to push myself. One challenge that I’ve faced on my way to reaching this goal is not becoming overwhelmed by my workload. My school work and homework is more challenging than ever. One thing that has helped me refrain from getting overwhelmed is making time to relax. Balance is key. As the school year goes on it becomes more to difficult to find that balance. However, I know what makes the difference is that I am determined to reach my goal and that’s what having a positive mindset is all about. I know that I will persevere if I remain tenacious and
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” was said by motivational speaker and American author Zig Ziglar. This relates to Carol S. Dweck’s article “Brainology” and Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me.” Ziglar, Dweck, and Alexie all feel that it isn’t easy for someone to become successful. It takes hard work, perseverance, and the want to learn and grow. In Dweck’s article, she stated that someone with a growth mindset would become more successful and knowledgeable than someone with a fixed mindset, which was demonstrated by Alexie in his essay, and by a personal experience of my own.
You need it there for you to be successful. "I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky" (Alexie 13). This quote really stuck with me because its apply to my life now. I will stop at nothing to make sure that I do my homework or study for a test. If I have to skip off on sleep and I will. With me getting my work done I started to understand the martials that is taught in class. I was arrogant I thought I could get away with not have to a draft or do that assignment because it too hard and it only five points it wont hurt my grade. I was lucky that I had the support to help make a differences in my grades and education. Without though thing I wont be where I am today trying to get my A.A decree. It doesn 't just apply to school but work and other thing I know I will have to face in the near future. I think for me, the thing that gets me in the right mindset is just watching something funny, something light, something that makes me feel good. Regardless of what it is - when you feel good, when you feel upbeat, creativity flows! (Derek Hough). Though I 'm not completely a growth mindset and I know it will take a while to apprehend. But, now I know how to turn a situation with a fix mindset to a growth mindset.
Courage can lead to positive changes since you are motivated to stand up and make a difference and if one did not have courage, they would not attempt to do such a thing at all; If Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, and Abraham Lincoln did not have any courage what so ever to make a change, our society would still be in slavery and also would not believe in equality for all. I strongly believe that if you have courage, you will change something for the best. The reason why I believe in courage being the number 1 way to lead to positive changes is because in the book The Cay Written by Theodore Taylor, Phillip was lost in a shipwreck and was taken in by a crew member of the ship named Timothy both which had sailed to a nearby cay, they both were stranded on the cay with limited resources only to have Timothy die from a fever and Phillip become blind, Phillip had the courage to live on his own and ended up being rescued, which in a way means that Phillip did not give up because he
Students who have a growth mindset learn by facing obstacle because they see them as a way of learning. Dweck says, “In a Growth mindset, however you can make a plan of positive action that can remedy the deficiency” (2). Students have different setbacks, and different ways of dealing with them. Instead of focusing on their failure, students
This simple attitude impacted my success in college, which lead me to a positive direction in life. According to Downing “ A Creator mindset causes people to see multiple options, choose wisely among them, and take effective actions to achieve the life they want”(44). This states that, a creator needs to learn from old mistakes in order to become better. For example, a growth mindset impacted my success by working hard in my general ed classes. Instead of procrastinating in my classes and eventually failing my courses. I planned time aside to study and do my homework five days in advance.I especially made online appointments with tutors at Mt.San Antonio College if I needed extra assistance with my assignments. Furthermore, when I receive low scores in my exams or homework assignments especially public speeches. I asked myself, professors and classmates what were my common public speaking mistakes. I understand that constructive criticism is a great way to notices one’s common mistakes. Seeking for help has impacted my happiness because I focuses on how to improve physically and mentally. Thus, I created a better college experience by being self aware which has lead me in a positive direction in
Shakespeare said, “Who could refrain that had a heart to love and in that heart courage to make love known?” What better way to express Desdemona’s deep affection for Othello than this quote. Courage is a trait that is exhibited through many characters in the play, Othello, by Shakespeare. It is the capability to stand up for what one believes in even in the face of great adversity. Courage is a characteristic that sets a person apart from the rest.
In retrospect, our mindset greatly defines who we are. Whether we want to make an effort toward achieving our goals or not, our mindset makes us do that. Michael Jordan didn’t stop trying until he achieved his goal, no matter how many failures he went through. He could accept failure, but he couldn’t accept not trying. Failure helped him become more successful, just like it has helped many others such as Tom Brady. Brady learned from his mistakes and became better at his job. These examples show us that our mindset can completely change our lives if we let it. If we change certain parts of our mindset such as being positive, accepting failure, and doing nothing less than hard work, then we can all become successful in whatever path we want to take.
Adversity is hard to go through, that's why motivation and confidence is the key. You can achieve anything you put your mind to. Some people conquer obstacles in ways others can’t imagine. Yes, it may change you soon, but change is extraordinary as long as you're on the right path. People overcome obstacles by keeping a positive attitude, accepting who they are, and never letting others opinions keep you from being you. People overcome obstacles in many ways, but one way is to have a positive attitude. In the article, “A work In Progress”, Aimee Mullins realizes that she should always keep her head up no matter what. Not everybody is encouraging their whole life, but always having a smile on her face makes her a champion. Towards the end of the movie, “Soul
What makes you fail or succeed. There is a lot to what makes you fail or succeed but one of the biggest things that actually makes you fail or succeed and accomplish what you do is simply your mindset. There are mainly two types of mindsets between people.A growth and a fixed mindset. These two mindsets were created by Dr.Dweck who is a professor in psychology at the university of Standford. There is a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.A fixed mindset is a mindset where you believe that you can't grow your intelligence at all and you were just born with your intelligence.People with Fixed mindsets will give up a lot often and not try. On the other hand there is the exact opposite; a growth mindset.People with growth mindsets are people who
The three traits courage, compassion, and sacrifice are tough to show and it must of took a lot to survive in this war. Everyone in the Annex used these 3 traits but some of them really meant it and showed it more than others. It all started in 1930 when the war first began. The Franks left their home to go to Mr.Frank's job to secretly hide in the annex upstairs behind a bookshelf, so they could be safe from the Nazi’s. The Franks sacrificed their lives to help Mrs.Van Daan, Mr.Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, and Mr.Dussel. With the help of Miep Gies and Mr. Kraler giving them food and things to help them survive.
People with a fixed mindset are usually not motivated to do challenging work, apply very little effort, lose confidence after mistakes, and are intimidated when things get difficult. And I have experienced some of these situations. I get less motivated when I have more work, don’t try my best, and I put myself down after low grades. I lost confidence in myself after every setback, but I should of been looking to learn from them. I should actually look back and see what I could have done differently after a setback instead of degrading my own morale. For example, I could change the way I approach a test if I really messed up on the last one, or I can stay motivated at every task at hand. I would love to have a growth mindset, but I just grew up with a fixed mindset. And it has basically made me lazy and procrastinate. I should get rid of my bad habits and develop a growth
The relationship between courage and integrity is direct, meaning that when one increases the other increases by the same factor. It is through acts of courage that integrity grows and matures; Consequently one's willingness to exit their comfort zone and execute acts of courage is regulated by their integrity and their core values. It is through this paradoxical nature that personal truth is discovered, character evolves and the means by which one can make a “name” for themselves. By explicitly performing acts of courage based upon central values then faith in these beliefs is developed consequently increasing one's sense of integrity ultimately allowing unity between the mind and the conscience. It is the amount and firmness of the “integrity”
Cultivating courage requires action. You have to plant the seeds now so that over time, you become more and more courageous with experiences you can recall when you need it most.
Colin Powell, first African American appointed as the U.S. Secretary of State, says that “There are no secrets to success, It is a result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure” (Alina). From this quotation, it explains that success is not given to someone in the spur of the moment or gained in a second. Success comes from working hard and not being afraid to fail because one learns from their failures. In “Chapter 3: The Truth About Ability and Accomplishment” from Mindset: The New Psychology of Success Carol Dweck, the author argues to a broad audience that a growth mindset leads to academic success. A growth mindset focuses on students trying harder than they did before and views any struggle as an obstacle that can be surpassed, thus motivating students to work harder. Growth mindset students continue to try new challenges because they do not view failure as a vulnerability. A fixed mindset student tend to give up because they view themselves as weak or not good enough to overcome an obstacle. Fixed mindset people also prevent themselves from trying because the fear of failure. The argument is mostly effective, but some areas need development.
...backs, you must persevere. When you come to an obstacle, you need to re-evaluate your plans to achieve your goal and consider revising them. The key of success is not to give up when you approach a problem, but work out a way to get past it and achieve success
