Biomedical Versus Homeopathy Every person at some point in his or her life gets sick, and needs to see a doctor. Some people prefer conventional medicine, while others feel more comfortable with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Biomedical medicine is the most used practice around the world, but homeopathic medicine has become more popular as an alternative medicine. Choosing which type of medicine is a personal decision, and having more information about the different alternatives helps one select the best option for their selves. It is important to analyze the main point in each model of medicine. While both systems advocate for human health, in biomedical or Western medicine, the most important aspect is the cure. Biomedical medicine treatments consist in identifying the body part with the problem. The practitioner makes a diagnosis according to the patient’s health, family history, and data obtained from statistical analysis. Then the doctor chooses which drug or surgical procedure is better for his or her patient. In homeopathic medicine, remedies produce the very symptoms of the particular disease in a healthy human being. Remedies are similar in terms of symptoms, which should resemble the patient’s symptoms as much as possible. This is the principle of similar (or “like cure like”) and the principal of dilutions (or “law of minimum dose”) states that better results of medication can be obtained with the lower dose of the …show more content…
Biomedical medicine usually is more expensive than homeopathic medicine. A conventional doctor charges between $75 to $350 dollars per consultation. Depending on the treatment, the medicines can also be expensive. Also, it is important to consider that the drugs used in conventional medicine usually have side effects. At the same time, the medical practitioner needs to spend at least seven years studying medicine to become a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO). They can also become a licensed naturopathic physician (NDs) and include homeopathy in their practice. Some homeopathy providers are considered counselors instead of medical professionals if they are not also certified as physicians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants. They charge between $60 to $70 dollars per visit, and these homeopaths can recommend over-the-counter remedies and provide guidance to individuals as long as they do not claim to provide medical advice or healing. However, homeopathy is extremely safe because it remedies are so dilute, that it is very difficult to take the wrong dose or hurt yourself using these remedies. The worst scenario is that this remedies do not do anything to one’s disease. Some people also decide to learn how to use homeopathy for home care of bruises, fevers, cuts and other minor issues. Homeopathic remedies are very inexpensive, usually about $6 dollars a bottle.
The improvement of medicine over the course of the human successes gave great convenience to the people of today. Science has cured and prevented many illnesses from occurring and is on its way to cure some of the most dreadful and harmful illnesses. As the world modernizes due to the industrialization, so does the ways of medicine. Some cures are approached by chance, some, through intense, scientific measures.
Acupuncture, ayurveda, chiropractice, homeopathy, meditation, osteopathy, and yoga are just a few of the many types of medicine practiced all over the world. According to the western establishment, all these forms of medicine are called alternative medicines. However, some of the aforementioned techniques have been in continuous use for over six thousand years, predating western medicine by over four thousand years. Yet, still many M.D.'s reject alternative forms of medicine. One of the buzzwords in medicine in recent years has been "holistic medicine". Physicians are becoming more aware of the need to treat the whole patient rather than just certain symptoms. Due to this realization, a small percentage of doctors are turning to ancient forms of medicine as a guide to alternative treatments. As alternative forms of medicine emerge in the western world, Christian scientists need to determine the moral, religious, and scientific validity of such techniques in order to gain a more holistic approach to medicine.
In today’s world, many people assume that the latest medical technology and treatments are always the best option. However, all over the world, different techniques for curing diseases and aliments are being used. These methods fall under the category of complementary and alternative medicine.
In addition, I would include pamphlets which would contain information on how homeopathy medicine aims to enhance the body normal healing and to help self-regulate itself. I would set up free consultation for patients to come in and get an in-depth idea of what homeopathy medicine does and how it can help the body. I would charge $150 per visit, which would include the cost of whatever remedies I
The famous spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi said, "Homeopathy cures a greater percentage of cases than any other method of treatment. Homeopathy is the latest, most refined method of treating patients economically and non-violently” (Malik). However, Homeopathy is only one of the many natural forms of treatment that patients are utilizing in an effort to avoid conventional medicine. A clinic practice model that combines conventional medicine with Naturopathic, Complementary and other forms of alternative medicine all in one setting, is the new health paradigm called Integrative Medicine. With the public’s growing concern of being over-medicated by costly and sometimes violent conventional medicine, I am going to explain the movement towards
The philosophy and practice is composed of many different systems of traditional medicine, which are all influenced by prevailing conditions, environment, and geographic area within, where it first evolved into WHO (2005). Although it is a common
“Homeopathy was always regarded, therefore, as the rich man’s therapy’, and the exclusive preserve of the wealthy, privileged and titled” (Francoeur). This was shown as the rich man 's therapy because at the time only wealthy people could afford it. Due to this perception many people were financially unable to pay for homeopathy. This stopped many people from using this treatment since they thought it was only for the upper class, although it was found to be much cheaper than conventional medicine. “British homeopathy could never really shake off its aristocratic gloss, and thus it never established itself at a popular level among lower classes, which was marked contrast to the other sects” (Francoeur). In the United States, homeopathy was easily accepted and more financially available. Constantine Hering played a major role in the use of homeopathy in the United States. Constantine Hering is referred to as the father of American Homeopathy. He founded the Hahnermann Medical College in Philadelphia in 1800. Homeopathy became popular in the United States during the late 1800’s. The increase in homeopathic medicine was due to a rapid spread of deadly diseases. Although Hahnermann had shown the true effect of homeopathy, he received criticism since homeopathy had a negative financial impact on pharmacies and doctors. By having homeopathic remedies that were safer and more cost effective people chose this route
For many centuries, humanity has been on an eternal quest for cures and treatments for many chronic conditions. At the present time, conventional medicine is mostly performed by doctors and other health care professionals, with the extensive use of pharmaceutical drugs, surgery or radiation treatments for disease treatment. Conversely, even though not as popular, complementary and alternative medicine and treatment options are slowly gaining popularity and becoming an addition to traditional medicine.
Ross defines and differentiates between the terms healing and curing. She recognizes the fact that healing and curing are very intertwined and it can be hard to distinguish between the two terms. There are differences between the definitions in scholarly and general settings. She references an ethnographic study of healing versus curing conducted by anthropologists Andrew Strathern and Pamela Stewart in 1999 with native groups in New Guinea. The results of the study looked at how energy used by the different types of tribal healers to either cure or heal a patient. Eastern medicine focuses on how energy interacts with the healing process in connection within the mind. Whereas Western medicine is focused on the mind and the body separately. The practice is considered a holistic approach to finding cures. According to Ross (2013), healing is more a therapeutic process targeting the whole body and specific illness including emotional, mental, and social aspects in the treatment. The act of curing is a pragmatic approach that focuses on removing the problem all together. The life experiences of a person playing into how well certain treatments will heal or cure what is ailing them. These aspects can not be defined with textbook definitions. The interaction that the healing process has with energy is a variable in the success rate. Uncontrolled emotions can have a greater impact on the inside the body than a person can realize. The exploration of energy interaction within the body can be used for greater analysis of health care systems. (21-22). Are Western healthcare facilities purposely “curing” patients just so that they return are few years later? Is Western Medicine built upon a negative feedback loop? The terminolo...
The different models to health all use different principles. The biomedical model concentrates on the physical and biological aspect of a disease. Doctors and health professionals practice this model. This model is associated with the diagnosis, treatment and cure of the disease. This model evolves as times goes
The Biomedical model of health focuses on the physical or biological aspects of disease and illness. It is a medical model of care practised by doctors and/or health professional and is associated with the diagnosis, cure and treatment of disease. The Biomedical model of health has been evolving for many years leading to improvements in medical science, technology, increase in cures and treatments ie: increase in vaccinations /immunizations emphasis on diagnosis and treating individuals separately from their lifestyle/living conditions. this model of health concentrates on the disease, illness, or disability and attempts to (cure) return the physical health of the person to a pre-illness state. The reasons for the illness are not at the centre of the biomedical model. The bio-medical model also receives the majority of government healthcare funding (over 90%). Further more the biomedical model of Health has been Dominant for many years and played a large role in prolonging life expectancy, Bio- living or living organisms and also played a role in Medical science of diagnosing-curing
Every year, approximately 230, 000 to 400. 00 deaths are caused by iatrogenic deaths ( in other words, these are deaths caused by wrong medical treatments). Two of the prominent yet some what contrasting types of medicine are, Ayurveda, the Indian traditional medicine, and Modern (aka western) medicine. Both of these have their own processes and methods of healing, which over the years have created their own followers. While Ayurveda addresses the root causes of the disease through identifying the imbalances in the elements, called “Doshas”, it also emphasizes on a spiritual lifestyle which for most people in today's world is a sea change. On the other hand, western medicine addresses the symptoms and provides instant albeit temporary relief for suffering. Needless to say there are more followers of the western medicine due to its immediate impact on subsiding the pain. Out of lack of awareness to the significance of traditional medicine, especially Ayurveda, many doctors and researchers are against the use of Ayurvedic and traditional medicines, which limits the potential of curing certain ailments of patients without additional side effects.
Over the centuries, several treatment methods have been utilized by humans for remedy diseases when they caught. Two of them are modern medicine and traditional medicine. Traditional medicine, which is also called alternative treatment, is older than modern medicine. This effective treatment had been used for many centuries before modern medicine was found. On the contrary, modern medicine has been used since the 1900’s (Lyons). In this system, drugs’ tests are carefully done in the safe laboratories, and their side effects are identified before they are given to the patient. Moreover, the effects of the pills are written on the leaflets which are found in the drug packages to warn the patients for these effects. However, sometimes the side effects are not blocked, so people have to take another pill to get better. It makes people take more chemicals into their bodies. Even traditional medicine, give its place to the modern medicine when its beginning times, it is used efficaciously like modern medicine at the present time. In course of time, people will gain reliance on traditional medicine again, since alternative medicine is more efficient and powerful in order to get better and soothe the diseases than modern medicine. In fact, in traditional medicine, there are fewer drugs, side effects, holistic therapy that people can be availed.
Modern medicine mixes chemicals and does extensive testing, while herbal remedies come from naturally grown herbs. For every argument there is two sides, herbal remedies lack dosage instructions, regulations, and may interact with current medication, as well as modern medicines also have improved treatments. With improvements made on information and studies of herbal remedies, they would prevail over modern
Over the centuries, ancients made use of several treatment methods. Two of them are modern medicine and traditional medicine. Alternative medicine is older than modern one. That effective therapy has used for many centuries on the patience when modern medicine has not occurred in the world. Because it has improved in China, it can be called Traditional Chinese Medicine. In contrast, modern medicine has been in used since 1900’s. In this system, drugs’ testes are done in safety laboratories with care and nicety, and their side effects are located before they are given to the patient. However, sometimes the side effects are not blocked so, people have to take another pill to get better. It makes people to take more chemicals into their bodies. Further, modern medicine has splendid efficacy on the fatal diseases. Even, alternative medicine which people’s ancestors utilized stayed in the background when modern medicine has just found, it works at the present time efficaciously. ****** Therefore, using alternative medicine is more helpful to get better than modern medicine because there are fewer drugs, side effects; there is placebo effect and holistic therapy.
