Speech of any kind has been the downfall for me from the beginning. I have always been that shy girl and have always had trouble with interpersonal communication especially.
Communication is important in all aspects of daily life. Walking by someone in the morning and saying good morning or even an in depth conversation with your boss. Communication is key to any human being. We as human being have to have social interactions to live a healthy life.Communication is especially important in all relationships. Communicating in a relationship is how a relationship grows together as well

I am so uneasy about the initial and continued conversation that thinking about talking to someone is very unnerving for me.
I have always felt that people think of me as dumb when I mess up when I am talking. I usually do it when I 'm thinking faster than I can put out or thinking about if they think I am dumb for asking that question. I am shy on top of the socially awkwardness which doesn 't help the situation either.
I obviously have Listener Apprehension as well as trouble starting or sustaining any conversation(pgs 170-171 & 125 in the text). I have related my communication problems to these concepts in the Interpersonal Communication textbook. I have communication anxiety which then causes me to have trouble starting and sustaining a conversation.
To improve my communication skills I need to not over think before starting the conversation as well as know that this conversation won 't be the death of me. The opinions of others and how they perceive me shouldn 't matter as much to the point that it hinders my
I think it is important to experience both ends of the communication spectrum in order to really appreciate the benefits of having good communication skills. After observing and writing this paper, it really pushes me to better my own skills, and appreciate those of others.
This communication made me aware of the few things I need to improve when I’m having a conversation with anyone. I realised that my weakness is talking to strangers and I’m often nervous which makes me so unclear when I’m clear and I speak quite fast and get it over with, Therefore one those things that I need to improve is that I should speak clearly and learn to structure my sentence well, because I cannot have eye contact with someone I should always look at their forehead as it makes it look like I’m having eye contact with them. I should also be able not speak to fast especially when speaking to an Elderly person; I should also be able to be more specific.
To function effectively in today’s society people must communicate with one another. Yet for some individuals communication experiences are so unrewarding that they either consciously or unconsciously avoid situations where communication is required. (McCroskey & Richmond, 1979) The term ‘communication apprehension’ was coined by James McCroskey (1976a) and is defined as “an individual’s level of fear or anxiety associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons” (McCroskey, 1984). In the last two decades communication apprehension and related constructs, such as reticence and unwillingness to communicate, have received extensive research and theoretical attention by scholars in communication and psychology. In 1984, Payne and Richmond listed over 1000 entries in a bibliography of publications and papers in this area (Payne & Richmond, 1984). Overwhelmingly the underlying theme of the articles has been the negative effects that these constructs can have on academic and social success. It has been forwarded that two out of ten people suffer some form of communication apprehension (CA). The focus of this paper is on communication apprehension as a construct and on how it affects the behavior and lifestyle of an individual.
Communication is important in relationships as it allows us to share our interest, concerns, support each other; organize our lives and make decisions; and it allows us to work together. Effective communication is based on the way we talk and listen, how we respond and our body language. We can all learn how to improve the way we communicate.
In the article, the authors seek to investigate communication apprehension among secretarial students. Communication apprehension is an individual’s level of fear or anxiety associated with communication with others (Booth-Butterfield & Thomas, 1995, pp. 1). 39). The syllable of the syllable. I did have great communication skills but whenever I had to communicate in front of a group of people for some reasons I fail miserably. My public speaking fears had become worst when I got to college. I was required to take a public speaking class which I couldn’t escape in since it was one of the required courses for my degree. My first day on that class is so far the most terrible day of my life. I was asked to introduce myself to the class using only one word to describe me, the moment that my name was called it felt like I was walking into an unfamiliar galaxy. One’s career, school life, and even socializing are affected by communication. If you do not know how to communicate, you probably do not have many friends. Communication has been used since the days of the cavemen. When the cavemen learned to communicate they greatly increased their hunting potential. When they learned to communicate on the hunt and before the hunt, they caught much more game then when they were just randomly running after the animals with spears. In school, if teachers and students could not communicate well, how would anything ever get done? In a business, communication is the most important ingredient. Working at a corporation at a higher level, you deal with hundreds of important emails, meetings, phone calls, and other forms of communicating with your co-workers.
Communication plays a big role in the person that I am today. I changed myself to be a better communicator by looking people in the eyes when I speak to them and talking more, which led me to be a more outgoing person. I made myself overcome my shyness by looking people in the eyes and talking more to them. I also made myself a more outgoing person by the way that I communicated with others. The first thing that I did to become a more outgoing person was to look people in the eyes when I spoke to them.
Improving my communication skills has been a work in progress starting back in the early years of my life. I have always been my own worse critic. Usually beating myself down through interpersonal communication. Now as an adult I have made great improvements but still have trouble dealing with perception and self-image. Not being raised in an environment of positive reinforcement and poor communication in the workplace I have made it a point to change that trait in my own family and professional environment.
Communication is essential in education, training and everyday life. It's a means by which a thought is transferred from one person to another. Effective communication occurs when the intended meaning of the source and the perceived meaning of the receiver are virtually the same, Schemerhorn (2005).
Clearly, communication plays a significant role in every aspect of our life. Communication is the simply act of conveying information from one person to another by using voice (verbally), gesture or body language (nonverbally), books or magazines (written), pictures (visually). The better communication skills that one has is the better the information could be transferred and received. The ability to convey information successfully and clearly is a fundamental life skill and should not be underestimated. Additional, effectively communication is the key to solve problems in any situation. With good communication skills, you can absolutely improve your professional life as well as strengthen your social and family relation ship. Indeed, communication allows us to relate and understand each other. “It also provides us with a significant frame of reference and relational context that sustain our identities.” (Imberti, 2007)
Whenever I had something to say, I could not bring myself to say it. I also made short pauses before I replied to someone’s question. If I did manage to say something, however, I would always stutter my lines in a way that would annoy the person I was talking to. Even making eye contact proved to be difficult. Because of this unpleasant activity, social anxiety sufferers make sure to never develop any sort of conversation with anyone. Severe cases of social anxiety can cause improper communication with even your closest friends and family. I became distant from my loved ones as a result. I kept quiet, despite my strong desire to express my thoughts. Having the inability to communicate with people will only prove to be difficult when attempting to live a normal, everyday
...e to speak in front of people. I might still get a case of nerves every now and then, but that’s expected. As long as I can keep those nerves in check and under control, I don’t think I will have a problem with public speaking any longer.
Communication is one of the most important factors in our lives. It dictates the relationships formed with the individuals in personal and professional lives. Effective communication provides a foundation for trust and respect to grow. It also helps better understand a person and the context of the conversation. Individuals often believe that their communication skills are much better than what they actually are. Communication appears effortless; however, much of what two people discuss gets misunderstood, thus leading to conflicts and distress. To communicate effectively, one must understand the emotion behind the information being said. Knowing how to communicate effectively can improve relationships one has at home, work and in social affairs. Understanding communication skills such as; listening, non-verbal communication and managing stress can help better the relationships one has with others.
To be effective listeners, the listening process should be incorporated into our lives. We should be attentive to what people say, clarify what the speaker is trying to come across, and respond in a way the speaker can understand what we are saying. I think I was aware that I needed some improvement in certain areas of this process but I feel as everything is slowly changing. In the future, I’m going try not to interrupt people, get distracted, tune out, and try to get a bigger picture of what the person is telling me. If good listening habits are applied in our day-to-day life, we can easily communicate with anyone and everyone.
