There has been many arguments within history whether some bog bodies that have been discovered were in fact murder opposed to the much idolodiesed idea of a sacrifice. However, could the bodies actually suggest a sacrifice opposed to murder? Yde Girl, a young 16 year old girl whom was founded in the Stijifveen peat bog near a village called Yde, is a body that has been identified as a much suspicious death and one, that has brought much controversy debates within history. On the 12kth of May, 1897, a worker whom dredged peat from a bog near Yde in Netherlands, made the discovery of the red haired 16 year old. The tannic acid within the water allowed the body to be preserved and has allowed many investigations to take part to gain an understanding of the reasoning behind the girl’s death. After the body underwent body scans, it supplied the evidence that Yde Girl suffered from scoliosis which is a disease of the spine. Due the this knowledge, is has allowed many historians come to the conclusion that the girl was murder as she was seen not to be “useful” within her time and her ill body would not effectively help her community. After further scans of the body, it is notably evident that the girl was pigeon toed, which could have been due to her scoliosis and her left ankle was in fact swollen also allowing for historians to come to the conclusion that she supplied most her weight to the one side, as too a side effect to the scoliosis. Due to the poor condition the body was left in after the excavation occurred, it is hard to determine that the cut on her collar bone was caused because of the diggers or, if they cut had been during her death. Many people it is not a part of her death nor a contribution to the passing however, some debate whether she was tortured before her passing. However, it is evidential that Yde Girl had suffered from injuries before the cause of her death and her spinal disease does easily make her a target to be sacrificed as it was thought she wasn’t going to live a long life but, it is also evidential that her disease could quite possible be the reasoning as to why the murderous act took place; she did not serve the public and it was uncommon for such a disease to be
