Mollie is the patient in our case study. Mollie lives with her daughter and son in law, both in their 70’s. A home health aide assists Mollie five days a week for three hours each day. At age 94, Mollie is an older adult, considered to be part of a vulnerable population, at risk for hearing, visual and mobility deficits. This at risk population can experience changes in cognitive or physical status making the activities of daily living difficult to perform (Meiner, 2011). As people like Mollie age, gradually becoming less able to function independently, their grown children, potential caregivers, may be preoccupied with the demands of their own lives and not prepared to care for an older

The victory garden or home garden was something that was highly popular during World War I and II. People would grow their own produce to help with the local food supply and to ease pressure on the local economy. At that time, almost one third of vegetable that were produced in the United States came from people’s home gardening (Wikipedia.org). Since then, there has been a massive decrease in the home garden. Store bought produce had become common place and as a result people have stopped growing their own food. However, by encouraging home gardening, communities can have sustainable, more nutritious produce readily available.

The word disability means something different to anyone you ask. Officially, having a developmental disability means the disability appears before someone turns 22 years old and causes a chronic life long or extended duration impairment. These disabilities, which may not be seen, can be physical, intellectual, neurological, psychiatric (or others), and the disability has a strong need for services or special care. Aging in place refers to remaining in one’s home and community throughout the aging process (Siebert, 2007). Additionally, it can mean living in a supportive environment that allows participation in meaningful activities, and increases quality of life (Siebert, 2007). Home modifications help facilitate participation in meaningful activities, decrease falls, and support aging in place (Siebert, 2007). Home modifications are adaptations to the environment that meet the needs of an individual, and increase safety and independence (Siebert, 2007). Although aging in place is more than home modifications, the focus and the purpose of my project is to research how affordable home modifications can support lower socioeconomic status older adults, with aging in place. There are three objectives to determine if the purpose of this project has been achieved. The first objective is that the educational presentation and booklet were effective in increasing the participant's knowledge of low-cost options and funding sources for implementing home modifications. The second objective is that the

The last step is farmers need the right incentives. Farmers want to know about the good that they are doing. Farmer’s want to know how they are saving the environment, and how they are producing more food, and feeding more people than they were before.
