Are Hamlet’s actions justified by killing his uncle Claudius? His actions weren’t justified and there are many ways that his actions weren’t justified. I will be showing you all the ways his actions weren’t justified in killing his uncle in revenge for killing his father.
First, he was not justified because of the treatment of Gertrude. Hamlet’s fathers ghost had told Hamlet when they were talking outside that he only wanted revenge for his uncle murdering him and when Hamlet asked him what about my mother and then the ghost said leave her to heaven and to those thorns that in her bosom lodge, to prick and sting her. He was explaining to Hamlet that he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her just for her to have that burden of moving on

Hamlet and Ophelia had loved each other and Hamlet had even promised to marry her. After he found out his father had been murdered though he acted like he had gone crazy to fool everyone. (Doc. C) When he did that Hamlet and Ophelia talked and he said you shouldn’t have believed me I never loved you and that broke her heart and he called her a fool and that why would anyone marry a fool. Hamlet also told her to go to a nunnery which means a brothel for prostitutes so he was calling her a prostitute. After he said those wretched things he yelled at her to leave quickly and then he said farewell. After that she leaves and says to herself he promised to marry me, he is dead and gone. The next day Ophelia drowns herself in the river over the guilt and sadness she had over Hamlet not loving her and Hamlet killing her father. (Doc. …show more content…
When Hamlet and the ghost of his father were talking in the woods about how his uncle killed him Hamlet’s father told him while getting revenge he wanted Hamlet to get his revenge fast and swift and not to wait or hesitate in getting revenge. (Doc. A) Hamlet could have killed Claudius early when he was praying and would have saved the suffering and deaths of all the others. He called himself a peasant, slave, coward, and rouge. He tells himself he is brave but he is being sarcastic in saying that and shows very low opinion of himself because he fails at getting revenge for his father and keeps failing instead of just getting it over with when he had that chance. (Doc.
Reason from him to seek justice on his very own uncle. Hamlet had every reason to have justice
Could Hamlet’s actions be considered justified? I don’t think Hamlets actions are justified because he took forever to revenge his father’s death and a lot of innocent people had to die because he couldn’t kill his uncle that killed his father. He also could have killed his uncle while he was praying this would have solved everything if he had done it then, because all the innocent people wouldn’t have died. In Hamlet, the ghost of Hamlet’s father appears and tells Hamlet to revenge his death; he says that his uncle Claudis killed him. In (Doc A) the ghost tells Hamlet to act fast and he told him not to blame his mother for any of it even though she is probably involved.
Hamlet, Ophelia’s lover, accidentally kills her father and “confesses” he never loved her, Hamlet toys with Ophelia's emotions intentionally and unintentionally to solidify his madness. Even though she was the who initiated the “breakup”, her sorrows of the relationship are much more public than Hamlets. Hamlet’s madness scares Ophelia away which he used as a defense mechanism to not be hurt anymore. His madness looks as though he had been "loosed out of hell to speak of horrors" (2.1.83-84) and she "truly [did] fear it"(2.1. 86). His insanity and rudeness suffocated any love she had for him. She admits that their "their perfume [has been] lost" (3.1. 99). This helped Hamlet solidify his insanity by cutting ties with the ones he loves, and having them tell others he is mad. This comes with the cost of discontinuing his relationships: especially with Ophelia. Both have hinted around in the text of an intimate affair. This makes the emotions and breakup even more difficult for both of them. Their relationship was a love, not an innocent crush or courtship. Poor Ophelia initially thought she caused Hamlet's madness due to the abrupt ending of their affair. But because of her naivety, she lacks to see his other internal struggles. Ophelia’s trust in Hamlet left her heartbroken. Hamlet’s agenda of or getting justice for his father occupied his mind more than Ophelia did. Which left her feeling
In order to sway everyone in Elsinore that Hamlet was insane, he first sells his insanity to Ophelia because he knows of her loyalty to her father. By convincing her, he would convince her father and the king. Despite his successful plan of "craziness", he severs many relationships with friends and family, especially with his believed-to-be lover. After verbally assaulting her in the castle, Ophelia takes his words "I loved you not" (3.1.117) and "...what monsters you make of them" (3.1.134-35) to heart and she feels betrayed and abandoned. Once again, the relationship is demolished. However, upon Ophelia 's death, Hamlet professes, "I loved Ophelia; forty-thousand brothers / could not match with all their quantity of love / make up my sum" (5.1.236-38). The readers learn in Act V that Hamlet 's love for Ophelia was indeed genuine despite his previous actions and words.
Why does hamlet delay so much in avenging his father’s murderer? Is there a part of him that really doesn’t want to take revenge? These are questions readers may come up with after reading and analyzing the play. Hamlet is a play built on a long tragedy between many characters. This tragedy starts with the main character Princess Hamlet and his Uncle Claudius. Claudius is the antagonist in this play and starts all of the drama. Claudius is the reason why hamlet is trying to seek revenge. Other characters are trying to seek revenge throughout the entirety of the play also. Shakespeare in the play Hamlet, is trying to make this a play on revenge between many characters and also show the insecurities of Hamlet as he tries to seek revenge.
Two of Ophelia’s difficulties arise from her father and brother. They believe that Hamlet is using her to take her virginity and throw it away because Ophelia will never be his wife. Her heart believes that Hamlet loves her although he promises he never has (“Hamlet” 1). Hamlet: “Ay, truly, for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness. This was sometime a paradox, but not the time gives it proof. I did love you once.” Ophelia: “Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so.” Hamlet: “You should not have believed me, for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock ...
He also committed the moral sin of killing his own brother and taking his wife. Claudius also deprived Hamlet of his rightful kingship. In addition, Hamlet now knows that his love of his mother is corrupted since she is affectionate towards his enemy. Hamlet should have acted decisively and killed Claudius as soon as possible after the Ghost told him to avenge his murder. But then comes the indecisive character in him that thinks it, though.
In Hamlet Prince of Denmark young Hamlet is left facing the outcomes of the conflict his father had with his brother. Old Hamlet is dead, killed by his own brother for the thrown of Denmark. Young Hamlet is in deep morning over the loss of his father and now he has to handle the remarriage of his mother to his own uncle, the man who in cold blood killed his father. Hamlet, with the death of his father, is acting strangely but his whole outlook changes for the worst when his father's ghost visits him. He finds out the true causes of his death and he is influenced by his father to seek revenge. Hamlet's father tells his son to kill his uncle, Claudius because he is the cause of his death. Hamlet loved his father deeply and would do anything for him. He becomes enraged with anger and hate for Claudius and begins to plot his revenge, Claudius' own death. Throughout the play his father's ghost visits Hamlet. Even after his death he has a great control over his son and his actions. These visits are a constant reminder to Hamlet of the truth. Knowing the truth of his father's death has driven Hamlet to the brink of insanity. The only thing he can think of is revenge. His father's death and prior conflict with his brother has left Hamlet in a position of honoring his father and doing right by him, and the only thing he sees fit to do is rid himself of the man that brought about the anger Hamlet is feeling. In the end Hamlet finally gets the revenge he sought with the death of Claudius.
Are Hamlet’s actions justified It was partially justified and partially unjustified. Because Claudius deserved to die for killing Hamlets Dad so he could be king and have hamlets mom. On the other hand Polonius, Ophelia, Gertrude and Hamlet himself. This why Hamlet should of killed Claudius sooner and not have waited so long to do it because people died that shouldn’t have died but Hamlet did get revenge for his father who was killed by his greedy uncle that wanted the throne and the kings wife because not even two months passed before Claudius Hamlets uncle married Hamlets mom and that’s just messed up and after Hamlet threw a play and it was on how his uncle killed his father in the garden sleeping
With his thinking mind Hamlet does not become a typical vengeful character. Unlike most erratic behavior of individuals seeking revenge out of rage, Hamlet considers the consequences of his actions. What would the people think of their prince if he were to murder the king? What kind of effect would it have on his beloved mother? Hamlet considers questions of this type which in effect hasten his descision. After all, once his mother is dead and her feelings out of the picture , Hamlet is quick and aggressive in forcing poison into Claudius' mouth. Once Hamlet is certain that Claudius is the killer it is only after he himself is and and his empire falling that he can finally act.
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet the king of Denmark is murdered by his brother, Claudius, and as a ghost tells his son, Hamlet the prince of Denmark, to avenge him by killing his brother. The price Hamlet does agree to his late father’s wishes, and undertakes the responsibility of killing his uncle, Claudius. However even after swearing to his late father, and former king that he would avenge him; Hamlet for the bulk of the play takes almost no action against Claudius. Prince Hamlet in nature is a man of thought throughout the entirety of the play; even while playing mad that is obvious, and although this does seem to keep him alive, it is that same trait that also keeps him from fulfilling his father’s wish for vengeance
Another significant female character is Ophelia, Hamlet's love. Hamlet's quest for revenge interferes with his relationship with Ophelia. There is much evidence to show that Hamlet loved her a great deal, but his pretense of madness drove her to her death. Ophelia drowned not knowing what was happening to her. This can be deduced by the fact that she flowed down the river singing and happy when in truth she was heartbroken. Ophelia was very much afraid when she saw Hamlet "with his doublet all unbraced; No hat upon his head; his stockings foul'd, Ungarter'd, and down-gyved to his ancle" (Act #. Scene #. Line #). She described him as being "loosed out of hell" (Act #. Scene #. Line #). In addition to that he scared her when he left the room with his eyes still fixed on her. She is especially hurt when Hamlet tells her that he no longer loves her and that he is opposed to marriage. He advises her to go to a nunnery and avoid marriage if she can.
Throughout the play, Hamlet goes back and forth between his wish to murder Claudius out of vengeance and his desire to not continue the cycle of revenge. The character of Hamlet seems to be rather noble considering his time. He contains a deep desire to avenge and not let down his father down while also being able to weigh the morality of continuing the cause violence in an already violent world. While noble in thought, Hamlet ultimately submits to the allure of revenge and deceives Caldius into watching a play intended to mirror the events that unfolded in Hamlet’s world. Upon receiving what was tantamount to assurance that Claudius was the true murderer, Hamlet makes it his mission to put an end to his rule.
His answer on how to send his father and himself to Heaven is to make Claudius confess to the murder. That is why he delays so long on the killing; he wants to be positive that Claudius is the one to blame for the death of his father. Once Claudius confessed at the play, Hamlet was morally allowed to kill him. Another example of the moral righteousness of Hamlet is his strong disposition toward the quick remarriage of his mother to his uncle. Due to the religiousness of the
...ed her horribly and degraded her by saying she was unfit and promiscuous. The confusing relationship she had with Hamlet and death of her father led to Ophelia’s madness and soon after suicide. He was the cause of the murder this is the deterioration of his character and see it when he confesses his love for Ophelia at her funeral that its too late.
