Intellinex LLC is an eLearning company that was recently spun off from its parent Ernest & Young LLP. At its inception Intellinex claimed to be one of the largest eLearning providers. Their focus is on creating customized training for clients and helping them to implement and maintain their on-line courses. Products and services are geared toward large companies that spend approximately $1 million on their eLearning projects; not individuals or small companies. They have asserted a strenuous goal of $100 million revenue in the first year of business.
Company Background
Intellinex LLC is an eLearning provider of “one-stop learning solutions that are faster, lower in cost, more flexible, and more convenient than traditional classroom training,” (www.intellinex.com). Ernst & Young LLP launched their wholly owned eLearning venture, Intellinex LLC, on October 5, 2000. Ernst & Young was the first of the “Big 5” firms to create an operating company that offers eLearning services. With less than a year of experience practicing business on their own, much of the background information for Intellinex stems from their internal work with Ernst & Young prior to the spin off. Their parent had already seen the light of eLearning and began creating training that “focused on everything a young audit person would need when first starting their career”. Almost all Ernst & Young employees had begun taking eLearning courses through a unit now known at Intellinex. They found that it was less expensive to train them online than to fly them to training centers for multiple courses. Due to Year 2000 concerns, Ernst & Young changed its curriculum-development procedures and what previously took 200 hours to create 1 hour of online training now takes 20 hours. (Walsh 2) Intellinex was able to take advantage of this change. Ernst & Young already had more than 40 clients receiving eLearning services using this unit. Ernst and Young will continue to use Intellinex for internal training through a third party agreement. (Howell 2) Ernst & Young’s decision to separate from its online corporate training department was in hopes of increasing the unit’s profitability by acquisitions. Intellinex started with more than 400 employees and five major locations. Their focus was providing customized training for clients through satellite, desktop web casting, streaming video, and web-based courses.
Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, is a novel about a society that is completely different from ours. Instead of freedom of choice, everything is propaganda otherwise it is burned to the ground. Fahrenheit 451 is the perfect example of a society that rewrites history, bans books that discuss something contrary to what the government wants you to believe, and how propaganda affects those around it.
Books are a symbol of learning, imagination and knowledge. In 1933 the Nazis burned all the books in order to subdue the free thinking and, liberty of the citizens of germany. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury it displays a controlling, violent, and oppressive Dystopian, government similar to Germany.
As a junior in high school, I am considering medicine as a possible career choice. Through my research in this field, I discovered the Hippocratic Oath. The Hippocratic Oath is the most famous of the Hippocratic documents; it has served as an ideal for the professional attitude and ethics of physicians to the present; the historical origin of the oath is so obscure that even the date of its composition is placed from the 6th to the 1st century B.C.
For much of its century long history, Nucor Corporation and its predecessors displayed turbulent performance. Several attempts at strategic and leadership realignment proved unsuccessful, and in 1965, the company faced insolvency. Since that time, however, the company has rallied around its steel operations to become the largest steel producer in the United States, with $4.3 billion in net annual sales. This case examines Nucor's development from an unprofitable conglomerate to a highly efficient enterprise. Specific focus on the evolution of the activity system underlying the organization lays the groundwork for systematic analysis of why some companies succeed while others fail.
My internship began with a short orientation of KPMG’s office located in the Wells Fargo Building of downtown Minneapolis. After some introductions and a few training sessions that outlined what was expected of us in terms of the rules and laws we were required to follow including disclosure of client and firm information and independence affidavits, for example, we were briefed on our trip to Orlando for National Internship Training which would take place the following work day. Training for Partnership-focused federal tax interns would last a whole week filled with events and educational seminars that would introduce us to tax fundamentals and software tutorials that would be helpful during our time with KPMG. National Internship Training would be the primary training session for every KPMG intern in the nation, hosting thousands of interns assigned to all pillars of accounting (audit, tax, and advisory). During meals and events the interns had opportunities to meet interns from around the country helping to expand our professional and social networks, which I found to be one ...
In Hippocrates’ Oath, he states that he will pass his knowledge of medicine on to those who seek to enter the “Art” and to use his knowledge in order to help those who suffer from a sickness and when doing so, he will not bend to corruption or bribery. It can be believed that his Oath is still relevant in today’s medical field because the main points of the Oath can and are applied in the modern day. Hippocrates’ main point in the Oath is to only use medicine to help those who need it and to not partake in any actions that are dangerous to their clients. Many doctors believe it is for their best interest to do what by all means necessary for the patient. For example, society believes that it is not very kind to judge someone based on their body image. Nowadays, people promote that not everyone needs to be a size two, but rather enjoy the body they’ve been given. Doctors may see society’s view on supporting obesity as a way to avoid serious
Computer based training is effective because it is easy to track, outreach is more efficient with just in time learning, and the content of the training is more consistent than with an instructor-led training (Pruesser,Lynn & Nordstrom, 2011). While Instructor-led training can be more natural for older employees that are not as familiar with technology, it is also easier for the employees that lack the self-motivation or control to ensure they complete the self-paced training. Regardless of the type of training the company chooses the article states that it is imperative for a company to evaluate the type of training utilized for effectiveness (Pruesser,Lynn & Nordstrom, 2011). If it is not working, it is time to consider other alternatives (Pruesser,Lynn & Nordstrom,
As the generations evolve the warnings of “Fahrenheit 451”become more important to prevent the exposure of the situations. Important situations that could be a warning to future generations is how books hold the history to the past .Reading books helps you get a better understanding of events that happen and allow you to advance your education.Another message expressed in the novel is communication, and the importance of stay in touch with one another. This is significant due to the society’s advance of technology that cause the characters to talk and communicate with people. Just like in our society the generations don’t always communicate because they call and text one another.A finally warning to the future generations is the symbolism of

The Hippocratic Oath is taken by medical professionals to treat those who are in need to the best of one’s ability (1). Established by Hippocrates in the early 5th century B.C., the oath has been upheld through the centuries regarding Hippocrates as the father of medicine throughout the world. To medical students, it stands almost as a right of passage when graduating with ones degree and entering into the medical field. However, according to the new laws in modern medicine, the code cannot be upheld to its entirety (1). Patients legally have the right to refuse treatment, even against the educated judgment of their physicians. The patient has the right to express their religious views if the proposed treatment conflicts with their beliefs. Abortion and End-of-Life decisions have ethical and religious conflicts that have been disputed for years, even banned in many areas. There are the implications of a patient that is unfit to give judgment on treatment, such as patients that are under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The medical community is presumed to respect the views of their patients, but ethical conscience may blur the lines of what is right and wrong. Or are the physicians motivated by their own concerns of self worth?

Hippocrates was a Greek physician that left a legacy that existed during his lifetime in Classical Greece and continues today. His moral and ethical standards were the foundation of his teachings, along with his meticulous writings concerning the study of the human body. He firmly believed that poor health and disease were the result of a natural process that could be discovered and cured through careful clinical reasoning and observations. Hippocrates travelled throughout Greece teaching and describing disease symptoms, and taught doctors how to analyze and treat specific illnesses or diseases. Hippocrates’s accomplishments give him the respect from doctors and medical professionals around the world that continues even today.
Proficiency in business skills entails understanding the economic and financial goals of the organization. Competency in thinking strategically involves the understanding of “internal and external factors that affect training and development” in the organization (Arneson et al., 2013, p. 82). Although I am involved in the training and development tasks at work, I am not involved in the development of the budget or informed of factors that may affect the organization as a whole. However, the OMDE606 course on Costs and Economics of Distance Education provided me with experience working with budgets and the related costs of training and
