Powers is very significant in international relations because this has changed throughout human kind and many great power countries had some time of greatness in history. However, international relations can also define power in many aspects. For example, one way of power in international relations is defined one actor employing influence over another, which this brought so many conflicts in today’s international politics. International relations also can describe this category of power is, hard for soft power. In hard power, there are many ways that can be mentioned. For instance, US has a massive hand of military size and technology over the other great powers. In addition to that, the concept of power in international relations is mostly used by realist thinkers whom they believe more extreme while they say other nations as thereat and they can attack anyone in any time. In other words, every nation must have a strong military and economy to defend themselves in
Power is what the government wants, with the power it can caused conflict. Like how one of the reasons the Roman empire fell due to overexpanded their empire, which lead that there was too much power for the Roman government
Political Analysis Political analysis is the method by which the judgement upon any political event, in any part of the world, is performed. It is based on the perception of the political reality of the region or the country in question and the perception of the relationship of this political reality with international politics. In order to perceive the international situation and international politics, it is imperative to have general outlines that explain the political reality of every state and the relationships of these states with the other states of the world, especially the major powers that influence the progress of events in the world. Since the Islamic Ummah is commanded to carry the Islamic Da'wah to all people, it is therefore obligatory upon the Muslims to be in touch with the world with awareness of its conditions and perception of its problems. The Muslims must acquaint themselves with what motivates the states and the peoples and pursue the political actions that occur in the world.
...dens the understanding of international relations and correspondingly broadens the understanding of security. Built on Thayer’s and Waltz’s theory, the paper suggests that structure of the international system is central to international security and to achieve peace, suitable strategies are necessary to balance the power relations. While it should not be ignored that the Evolution theory still falls within realism realm with many other forms of complex security problems unexplained.
To understand the international relations of contemporary society and how and why historically states has acted in such a way in regarding international relations, the scholars developed numerous theories. Among these numerous theories, the two theories that are considered as mainstream are liberalism and realism because the most actors in stage of international relations are favouring either theories as a framework and these theories explains why the most actors are taking such actions regarding foreign politics. The realism was theorized in earlier writings by numerous historical figures, however it didn't become main approach to understand international relations until it replaced idealist approach following the Great Debate and the outbreak of Second World War. Not all realists agrees on the issues and ways to interpret international relations and realism is divided into several types. As realism became the dominant theory, idealistic approach to understand international relations quickly sparked out with failure of the League of Nation, however idealism helped draw another theory to understand international relations. The liberalism is the historical alternative to the realism and like realism, liberalism has numerous branches of thoughts such as neo-liberalism and institutional liberalism. This essay will compare and contrast the two major international relations theories known as realism and liberalism and its branches of thoughts and argue in favour for one of the two theories.

Almost every conflict situation consists of one party having more power than the other. When the power differential is significant, this usually has a major effect on both the matter and process of the dispute. In order for the outcome of the conflict to be fair, both parties must be relatively equal when it comes to power if resolution of the conflict is to be fair. If one side is far more powerful than another, they are more likely to impose their solution on the weaker party, who in turn will be forced to acquiesce, because they have no other choice.
The disagreement among Realist focuses on polarity and stability. Polarity can be described as ways power can be distributed in an International System. Polarity systems consist of multipolar, bipolar, and unipolar. The focus point of polarity is how much autonomy does a states has in the International System. For instants, in today’s society the United States commands majority of the capabilities in the International System. Will the United States hegemony influence the outcome of other states power and military capabilities such as the nuclear deal with
McShane and Von Glinow define Power as “the capacity of a person, team, or organization to influence others” (300). Furthermore, they state that power derives from five main sources and four main contingencies like the following figure illustrates.
The chosen level of analysis and international relation theory to explain this event are the individual levels of analysis and realism. This level of analysis focuses on the individuals that make decisions, the impact of human nature, the behavior of individuals acting in an organization, and how personality and individual experiences impact foreign policy decisions.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Level of analysis discloses three different ways of understanding international relations. The System-level analysis considers "top-down" approach to study world politics (Rourke, 2007, p. 91). It emphasises that international actors, countries, operate in a global social-political-economic-geographic environment and the explicit characteristics of the system outlines the mode of interaction among the actors. The State-level analysis stresses the national states and their domestic practices such as national interests, interest groups, government, and domestic economy as the key determinants of the state of world affairs (Mingst, 2008). The Individual-level of analysis examines human actors on the global stage. It focuses on the human nature, which defines the primary human characteristics that influence decisions; organizational behaviour that describes human interaction within organized settings, e.g. decision-making group; and personal behaviour that investigates the effect of the uniqueness of individual decision makers on foreign policy (Rourke, 2007, p. 65).
...ous situations, possibly because these studies have attributed motive and action to the states rather than to the decision-makers within them. Thus, foreign relations and policies can truly be strengthened when people can view and truly appreciate international issue in many different perspectives, such as realist, idealist, liberalist, constructivism, feminist, world economic system analysis, etc. When people are able to see issues and solutions to problems in many different ways world peace might be reachable.
The concept of ‘soft power’, the term introduced by Joseph Nye in the late 1980s , can be distinguished as a more peaceful, amiable, and subtle type of power which focuses on attracting and persuading others. It has become a staple of everyday democratic politics as it can prove to be an effective means of public diplomacy, helping countries to achieve their aims in foreign policy without having to resort to any measures of coercion, or in other words, hard power. However, even though the concept of soft power may sound appealing, it should not be forgotten that it is not without its limits.

In Morgenthau’s “Politics among Nation’s”, his main point is that survival is a national interest, and survival comes from power; therefore, the national interest is power. Morgenthau further mentions the balance of power which means that if states were to strive for more and more power, then they will get further away from their goal of survival. Morgenthau has even said, “…that the balance of power and policies aiming at its preservation are not only inevitable but are an essential stabilizing factor ill a society of sovereign nations..”. Morgenthau is saying that the balance of power is crucial for the survival of these nation states. Morgenthau also mentions an equilibrium in order to talk about the balancing of powers. Morgenthau said “that without a state of equilibrium among them one element will gain ascendancy over the others, encroach upon their interests and rights, and may ultimately destroy them.” This is exactly what defensive realists are all about, that if a state receives too much power, the system is ultimately going to try and balance themselves out and will most likely lead to conflict or war. Morgenthau also mentions how power and social life are connected, he almost has a constructivist approach (conflict or cooperation based on one’s social/historical norms) to it. Morgenthau thought that social norms about order and power will either result in conflict if the norms are weak or cooperation if the norms are strong. For example, we can relate this to the game stag hunt as an analogy, Morgenthau would agree that if there is a way for two states to cooperate, they will ultimately get the best outcome. He would say a close community will want to help others and cooperating is in everybody’s interest. Morgenthau argues that if the international system has a strong sense of community then the balance of power will keep peace. Without a strong knit community, the
Whenever world politics is mentioned, the state that appears to be at the apex of affairs is the United States of America, although some will argue that it isn’t. It is paramount we know that the international system is shaped by certain defining events that has lead to some significant changes, particularly those connected with different chapters of violence. Certainly, the world wars of the twentieth century and the more recent war on terror must be included as defining moments. The warning of brute force on a potentially large scale also highlights the vigorousness of the cold war period, which dominated world politics within an interval of four decades. The practice of international relations (IR) was introduced out of a need to discuss the causes of war and the different conditions for calm in the wake of the first world war, and it is relevant we know that this has remained a crucial focus ever since. However, violence is not the only factor capable of causing interruption in the international system. Economic elements also have a remarkable impact. The great depression that happened in the 1920s, and the global financial crises of the contemporary period can be used as examples. Another concurrent problem concerns the environment, with the human climate being one among different number of important concerns for the continuing future of humankind and the planet in general.
