The song I will look at is “I Feel Like Im Fixin to Die Rag” performed by Country Joe and the Fish. I will be listening to this song on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyr7P8VCPDg). The psychedelic rock band, Country Joe and The Fish, are protesting the war on Vietnam. In the song, they mention in a stanza that stood out.
“And it 's one, two, three, what are we fighting for? Don 't ask me, I don 't give a damn, Next stop is Vietnam; And it 's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates, well there ain 't no time to wonder why, Whoopee! we 're all gonna die.”
This stanza shows that the Americans were confused and clueless about why we were in Vietnam. Sadly, all the American citizens know is that they are at war once again. When The Fish sing “open up the pearly gates”, they are suggesting that the war causalities will increase. Therefore, indicating that god shall be ready cause a lot of men are going to die. This stanza, which is also the main chorus of the song, is the main concept of what everyone is thinking in the duration of the war. This band is a psychedelic rock band; first I will look at the characteristic of the psychedelic music to determine whether this song falls into this category. There are pissed at another war and with this war, the people aren’t even sure why they are fighting. On the other hand, civilians were very supported of the Vietnam war. The Vietnam war was every tricky because the Viet Cong didn’t have special uniform, this made it difficult for the American troops on the war front. The soldiers would either kill a Viet Cong or an innocent civilian. Therefore, because it was hard to identify who was who, American troops would often die from these
