Build Your Self-Esteem In the last lesson, we looked at how negative experiences in your past can affect your self-concept. Self-esteem isn’t quite the same as your self-concept, but they are related. Your self-concept is your perception of yourself. Your self-esteem is a measure of how happy you are with yourself. Increase one, you can increase the other. Today, we’ll look at building your self-esteem. It’s easier to be authentic to others when we feel good about ourselves. Give your self-esteem a boost and think highly of yourself: 1. Guarantee success: start small. Success breeds confidence and self-esteem. Create small successes in your life. Self-esteem becomes the visualization of one’s value as a person. It develops over the sequence of a person 's life. Beliefs about self are based on the experiences throughout one’s life. These experiences have given messages about the type of person someone will become. A number of situations can negatively affect a person’s self-esteem. Negative experiences create negative beliefs. Visual, aural, or experienced events in one’s family, the wider community and school have influenced the views of a person. Occasionally, negative beliefs about self can occur while being bullied, abusive relationships, stress or hardships, or traumatic events. Every parent experiences stressful moments during their daily activities. Whether it may be a screaming baby, a temper tantrum or a stubborn child, the way the parent chooses to react, is significant for the child’s development. Understandably, parents are only human and cannot be perfect all the time. Although no one is expecting perfection, every reaction that parents express is seen by the child, helping them to view the world through their parent’s reactions. Children depend on the adults for survival, the more calm and compassionate the parents are towards their children, the more resilient they become, in being able to handle their emotions. Phoebe Prince was bullied every day for three months. Her peers caused her to have such as low self esteem and low self image that she committed suicide. Seven out of ten girls in the United States suffer from low self esteem, which can lead to mental problems, suicide, and many poor life choices. Teen girls should take a class on raising self esteem because low self esteem affects girls negatively, most self esteem issues are family related, and there are much recourse to help girls.

People always say be confident, but opposed it. I believe being overconfident leads to arrogant attitude, which ultimately leads to failure. One time I had been too confident in my own ability that leads me to one of my failing experience: academic grade. Affirmations can help us start thinking differently if we repeat them over and over with emotion. Figure out which affirmations make you feel some thing as you say them out loud and stick to those.
As you go through your day and start to lose focus, remind yourself of the importance of focus. For instance, remind yourself how important it is to focus on your loved ones and have deep and meaningful conversations with them. Or remind yourself of the rewards you will get from finishing a task quickly. If you can create reasons that being focused will be more pleasurable than not being focused, you will be more likely to stay focused and reap the rewards.
