Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle all had a big impact on Western Civilization and did so in their own unique way but each one’s concepts lasted long after their initial ideas appeared. Socrates’s concepts were the first time a person went against the beliefs and philosophies of the time. His most influential impact was on ethics. He believed that people should behave in a good and gracious manner regardless of the outcome. He did not feel like a person should be selfish and think of only their wants. He also felt that people should not push their ways and beliefs on others just because they had the power and could. His beliefs were important to ethics today because he felt that a person would be happy if they acted morally good regardless
The ancient Greeks and Romans were perhaps two of the greatest civilizations of the ancient world. These two civilizations thrived in their ancient environments which eventually led to a vast amount of prosperity within these two cultures. It is because of this prosperity that these ancient cultures were able to make a variety of advancements in literature, architecture, art and a variety of other fields. These two civilizations also produced some of the ancient world’s greatest writers, leaders, and philosophers. The cultures of ancient Greece and Rome made a number of contributions to western civilization in the form of advancements in literature, architecture, art, government, and philosophy.
It is always important to look to the past in order to move towards the future. This was done in the formation of Western Society, and more specifically the formation of American society. The Greek culture served as a frame of reference for many aspects of Western life including government, architecture, math and the arts. I think that the Greeks contributed more to the civilization, because they influenced much of the Western civilization. They were very intelligent they created a lot of artwork. The Greeks contributed to most of the things today. They were great in sculpturing and they created Greek philosophy and Science. They trained many of the upper class males: mental, moral, and physical excellence to eventually lead their households. All the students were males and they taught the most significant of these were Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Alexander the Great made the most significant person in the Greek civilization.
Our country is built on a set of values derived from ancient civilizations, individuals, and city-states; both negative and positive attributes of these relics can be proven to have assisted in molding our government into a unique and prized entity. Never would one imagine that western civilization is actually inclined by theories of truth and the human beings perception of it. Few would have thought that a primitive concept could be linked to the setbacks of other societies and their forms of socialization, as well as to the success to ours. The basic concept of truth and our natural response to socialization developed an ideal image of our current day country, long before our country existed. In ancient Greece, a great philosopher named Plato founded one of the most famous schools in all of history. Plato was a student of an enlightened man and a teacher of many others. Plato’s contribution to our existing government is given little credit, yet thanks to him we function as one of the most sophisticated societies in the entire history and the world.
There are many different ways that modern cultures in the west have been impacted and built upon, but there are two ancient cultures that were the most influential. The Greek and Roman cultures helped shape Western Civilization in many ways. Both were very important factors in the development of Western culture. The Greeks contributed through art, architecture, government, philosophy, education, and science. The Romans contributed through language, engineering, law, and government.
After considering the testaments of Thucydides and Hippocrates that knowledge is advantageous to the cultural, social, and political advancement and betterment of Athenian society, it is virtually impossible to condemn Socrates to death for his contributions to these important ideas. Socrates stated, "I go about arousing, and urging and reproaching each one of you, constantly alighting upon you everywhere the whole day long" (Human Record 118). If he had not inspired so many people to become thinkers as he was, and to explore secular ideas, Athenian society would not have thrived as it did. In fact, modern society probably would not be as intellectually advanced as it is today had its predecessors such as Socrates, Thucydides, and Hippocrates, listened to the governors of their society and followed their rules prohibiting the pursuit of knowledge.
Ancient Greece is believed to be the birthplace of philosophy as a scholarly element. Many of the worlds most significant intellects called Greece home. It started with the pre-Socratics, for example, Thales and Pythagoras, then proceeded to the likes of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, and finally came the great minds of medieval period. Since philosophy is based off of logical standards, a subject that during ancient times was quickly changing, the general theories of the day and age changed in like manner. Through this hole of hundreds of years between the periods, there is actually a touch of disconnection on specific issues through the refining of thoughts and outside impacts. The concept of human nature was one issue that was constantly reevaluated by ancient Greek and medieval philosophers, and as a result a wide variety of opinions were developed.
We have two great philosophers, Plato and Aristotle. These are great men, whose ideas have not been forgotten over years. Although their thoughts of politics were similar, we find some discrepancies in their teachings. The ideas stem from Socrates to Plato to Aristotle. Plato based moral knowledge on abstract reason, while Aristotle grounded it on experience and tried to apply it more to concrete living. Both ways of life are well respected by many people today.

Socrates had many disciples throughout his life including Plato, one of the more popular students. Plato is the author of many philosophical writings, many of which are about Socrates. Aristotle and Plato differ in their ideas of how society should be run. In Plato’s ideal society, he believes that a strong city is one run by philosophers. The only ones of this society who think, who have reason and wisdom according to the Allegory of the Metals. In a just city according to Plato, people have a place like certain kids destined for the guardianship so they are born and bred for it all their life. Aristotle saw politics as the study of association and constitution. He believed in moderation and a key to a happy life and a happy society is balance. Plato as a political philosopher tries to create what he thinks is a perfect society for philosophers and philosophers only. Aristotle as a political scientist sees it more on the
Socrates says that God determines what is right and wrong. “I owe a greater obedience to God then to you and so long as I draw breath and have my faculties, I shall never stop practicing philosophy and exhorting you and indicating truth to everyone I meet” (Apology, 29d). God’s rules and commandments are what you need to follow in order to assure a good life after death. God and his commandments come first over everything else. Socrates believes in the divine command theory and how you must listen to Gods commandments. God decides what is moral and obedience to God is how you live justly. Socrates also says he will never stop practicing philosophy because in his eyes philosophy is the way to live life. He has said that living without examining life is a life not worth living. Questioning and indicating truth to others by pointing out their ignorance is what he saw as an essential part of being moral. Morality ties in to the question of solution by asking questions and seeking wisdom you are doing what is just and fixing the condition of humanity. Morality also relates to condition because the soul must be more important than material objects in order to be moral. He says you must follow cities laws and obedience to Gods laws as well in order to be just. On top of that you should be self-examining yourself so that you can better the soul as much as
