Who were you poor Halloween? You were the ugliest man I’d ever seen. You were uglier than ugliness; DNA was surely not kind to you. You were so ugly that you broke enough mirrors to amass more than three lifetimes of bad luck. I have called you Halloween for so long I can barely remember your real name. It was your eerie face and sullen personality what inspired that nickname and now; I feel like I have ruined the sole jolly day of October. With you, nothing was ever fun anyway. I remember how every time Allhallowe’en rolled around; you gave rotten sweets to anyone who dared come knocking at the door; so, no one knocked evermore. I recognise though, that you made such wonderful music. When you played the piano, I forgot all about your awful anatomy. Your ability to hide …show more content…
The tall man waved his hand as he shouted, “Farewell thunder dancer!” “toodle - oo keep making it rain!” I replied, and marched without turning back. I left the tribe and their heated cloudbursts just like I left His tainted harvests, but this time I didn’t run; I just calmly stepped away. I parted and lost track of time once more. I could not tell how long had I been wandering; a month, a day, a second, a lifetime? Freedom always does as it pleases. I can’t expect it to follow an itinerary. I felt enervated, so I made one last stop. I arrived at a place which seemed unclean; I couldn’t care less about my cleanliness. I sat on a stair next to some smelly drifter who told me was on a geographical hate voyage. ”I’m planning on hating one person from every country; from here to the end of the earth,” he uttered and immediately fell asleep. What an odd misanthropic species. “Sleep tight little weirdo” I tapped his head, covered him with a coat I had taken as a souvenir from the rain dancers, and then went downstairs into what seemed like a nightclub. Music in that place was far from flawless. It wasn’t wild either. It was unnatural; synthetic; unrefined; so loud it blurred my
Halloween was not supposed to be like that, it was supposed to be more like when I was a kid. Houses would be decorated, jack-o-lanterns would be sitting near doors, and
“Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out contagion to this world.” This quote by William Shakespeare accurately sums up many cultures’ feelings towards modern-day Halloween. But where did Halloween originate? While there are several different ideas, the one that seems to be the most popular is that Halloween originated from an ancient Celtic rite called Samhain (pronounced sah-win). Halloween has strong roots in Paganism, which is the cause of negative connotations with Christian religion. Many modern Halloween traditions and symbols started
Late autumn has arrived and with it comes the dark magic of Halloween--and, of course, the
Basic terms are often confused when describing an individuals musical sense. Microsoft Encarta World English Dictionary defines an artist as somebody who does something with great skill and creativity, and a musician is a music maker who plays, performs, conducts, or composes music, either as a hobby or a profession. The focus of this essay is not the plausible crime of a solely techno creator, or in contrast, the soaring melodies of a humans voice. Technology has tarnished the value of pure talent of music's original creation for the sake of popularity, riches and unnatural perfection.
I am not here to harm you, I am here to wish you a Happy Halloween.”
“There was none from the myriads of men who would pity or assist me; and should I feel kindness towards my enemies? No: from that moment I declared ever-lasting war against the species, and, more than all, against him who had formed me, and sent me forth to this insupportable misery” (97).
A calm crisp breeze circled my body as I sat emerged in my thoughts, hopes, and memories. The rough bark on which I sat reminded me of the rough road many people have traveled, only to end with something no one in human form can contemplate.
They call us witches because we frighten them. After all, that’s the first thing you’re supposed to do when you’re afraid of something, isn’t it? Pin a name on it, make it different than yourself, and then it’s easy to pretend it’s less than human. So it is with us. It doesn’t matter that we look, breathe, live like they do. It doesn’t matter that we went to their churches or helped deliver their children. It doesn’t matter that we’re just trying to find some happiness in the same short lifetime that they are. No, we’re different, we’re witches, and so they make our lives hell.
I had become extremely hot and my skin was sticky from the sweat and dirt of afternoon play. The camp counselor called for all fourteen of us to line up in single-file and follow her lead. I did not understand why we had to do this, but as we travele d down the path that led to the stream, I began to understand her reasoning. The descending path was very steep and narrow. The sand and un...
What’s the worst thing about preparing a Thanksgiving meal? No it’s not the time constraints, and no it’s not the amount of dishes you have, it’s the idea that foodborne illness can be present. Every Year “roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases” (CDC, Burden of Foodborne Illness: Findings). There are four easy steps you can take to prevent these statics from increasing dramatically. First

Halloween is derived from the Christian holiday All Hallows’ Eve, which is the day before the feast of All Hallows’ Day. This time is dedicated to mourning fallen saints and martyrs, or the dead in general. The practices of this could relate to other pagan rituals, particularly the Gaelic Samhain (All Hallows’ Eve). During both Samhain and All Hallows...
In order to explain, this we need to go back to the very beginning of this creepy holiday. Long ago, a people known as the Celts celebrated a holiday they called Samhain. The Celts lived two thousand years ago in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Northern France. Celts began each new year on November first; This is the day that ends the harvest and marks the beginning of winter, cold and hard, which many then feared they had not stored enough food to survive. With that in mind it is no small wonder that this time of year was often associated with death. So the day before, Samhain , Celts believed that this world and the Deadworld boundaries blurred and th...
When September ends and October begins, there is one thing on everybody's mind: «Halloween ». Halloween is around 2,000 years old and first originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain; The Celts had rituals to avoid ghosts coming to haunt them, including dressing up in terrifying costumes to scare the ghosts and get together to party on the evening of October 31st.
