The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton was a good book. It was about a group of greasers, trying to survive being jumped by a group of Socs. Greasers are poor, and only have each other. The use grease for their hair, hence the name, greasers. Socs are rich kids. They practically have everything they want since their parents spoiled them rotten. Now they see no completion in anything. So they jump greasers for fun. At some point, the main character Ponyboy, who is a greaser, is jumped by the Socs. Then at one point, one of the greaser gang takes things a little too far because of it. But people are wondering, who has the harder life? The Greasers? Or the Socs? The Greasers considering that the Socs jump them, and are also more poor, and only have each other since their parents didn’t like their kids. …show more content…

They are like the one class before being homeless, if they aren’t already homeless. The greasers have to work very hard to get a home. While the Socs on the other hand, have everything they need (sometimes everything they want!) before they even become adults. Ponyboy even said it himself. “We’re poorer than the Socs and the middle class.” (3) This implies that the greasers don’t have much. Their lives are more difficult and they have to work very hard just to get close to the middle class. You’d think the greasers have a hard life already, now the Socs are becoming a problem. The Socs jump the greasers. And out of all the people you could get jumped by, it has to be the rich kids. The ones who could afford the expensive knives and fighting equipment. “There isn’t a whole lot you can say while gettin mugged.” (5) That sentence proves he might be speaking from experience. I mean look at it! The Socs are one of the biggest problems of the greasers. That makes me confused on why people think the Socs have the harder life, even though they are making people's lives
