Theme is an important part of novel’s structure. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, share’s theme with different parts of the play Pygmalion. One theme that sticks out, throughout both of the stories is when people try to change others into something they are not, there is usually a negative effect.
In the novel Frankenstein, this theme is shown when this part of the novel is explaining how Victor created an awful monster, and does not like how he is acting and then therefore is going to try to change him. How Victor tries to change how the monster acts is upsetting to the monster, which is expected. This will soon cause a negative effect on the monster, because he is upset and hurt over Victor trying to change who he is. Soon after, Victor tells the monster to get away from everyone because he is harmful to the people. The monster suddenly rages because Victor’s rampage. This shows the negative effect it could have, just with one example.
In the play, Pygmalion, it shows how trying to change someone for who are not could end up being a disaster. For example, Liza was telling Higgins to just leave her where he had found her, because all he was trying to do was change her. While Higgins and Liza are arguing, she notices how all along that they were trying to change her whole lifestyle. Higgins and Pickering were trying to make Liza into a proper woman to their own standards. Throughout Pygmalion, Liza never even imagines that they are trying to transform her into a proper lady and trying to change her all together.
The difference between the two stories is Victor trying to change the monster was for a good explainable reason. The monster went around hurting and causing harm to others and even killed Victor’s brother William. Victor ...

All the monster wanted was compassion and he would never see anyone else again but Victor did not want to make things an equal game from himself and the monster. Victor was trying to make the monster how HE wanted him to be, not how the monster wanted himself to be.
Moral of the story is, changing people to try to be like what other people want them to be is wrong. Everyone was born with their own life to make their own decisions and their own regrets. Everyone makes mistakes, but yet again everyone learns by them and moves on. Changing someone to make another person happy is only taking happiness away from the person who is changing. Everyone should be exactly who they are, not to change for anyone but their self to make them feel better and to be happier about their self and their own life
