"My greatest challenge has been to change the mindset of people. Mindsets play strange tricks on us. We see things the way our minds have instructed our eyes to see"(Muhammad Yunus). I 've always had a fixed mindset since I could possibly remember thanks to me, myself and I. School was never an easy task for me as a child, I knew at a very young age that I didn 't learn the same way other kids did. Unfortunately, it frustrated me and lost sight of how important education really is. I plan in the future to make my fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
Let 's start at the beginning where I developed a fixed mindset. I started school like every other kid. In the end of fourth grade I started to see that every student started to catch on to the material …show more content…

I truly believed the intelligence was something you were gifted with and I knew that I was definitely not one of them. I watched my friends get good grades and become successful in test taking. I couldn 't figure out why I 'm not successful, why it was so hard or why I couldn 't just get the answer. It wasn’t till my eleventh and twelfth grade language arts teacher I find a way to change my circumstance. In that year of my high school career my language arts teacher saw me struggling on a writing prompt that was assigned. He asked me what was going on. I told him that I 'm not in any way good at writing papers. Your going to have to make a draft and this draft is going to suck and that’s the point he said. When you go back to make changes it will become a good paper. It 's okay to fail as long as you learn from them and don’t let them take over. I wrote that paper for his class and received a B. "Very few writers really know what they are doing until they 've done it" (Lamott 5). Although it was to late in the year to fix my junior year of high school I could make my senior year academically great. My mom, my teachers and my senior year of high school are the reasons why my fixed mindset started to become a growth mindset. You need it there for you to be successful. "I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky" (Alexie 13). This quote really stuck with me because its apply to my life now. I will stop at nothing to make sure that I do my homework or study for a test. If I have to skip off on sleep and I will. With me getting my work done I started to understand the martials that is taught in class. I was arrogant I thought I could get away with not have to a draft or do that assignment because it too hard and it only five points it wont hurt my grade. I was lucky that I had the support to help make a differences in my grades and education. Without though thing I wont be where I am today trying to get my A.A decree. It doesn 't just apply to school but work and other thing I know I will have to face in the near future. I think for me, the thing that gets me in the right mindset is just watching something funny, something light, something that makes me feel good. Regardless of what it is - when you feel good, when you feel upbeat, creativity flows! (Derek Hough). Though I 'm not completely a growth mindset and I know it will take a while to apprehend. But, now I know how to turn a situation with a fix mindset to a growth mindset.
