Fears in The Most Dangerous Game [ADM1]
All around it was quiet. [ADM2]The birds were chirping and the leaves were blowing. Suddenly, a man fled from the brush, holding only a knife in his right hand. After the fleeing man had ran some distance, another man came out of the brush holding a revolver. This man walked calmly after the fleeing man not worried that the he would escape. The old, erect man stopped, and loaded his revolver. He then took aim, shot a round and hit the fleeing man just as he turned around. The man dropped as he died instantly. The old man then walked over to the game he had just killed, grabbed the body by the shirt, and dragged the body into the brush. Richard Connell's The Most Dangerous Game is a story based on a man who thrives for hunting humans[ADM3]. The way Connell wrote this short story reveals some characteristics about him. The Most Dangerous Game is a psychological story about the author facing and overcoming fear.

The general's eyes had left the ground and were traveling inch by inch up the tree. Rainsford froze there, every muscle tensed for a spring. But the sharp eyes of the hunter stopped before they reached the limb where Rainsford lay; a smile spread over his brown face. This story is filled with the same type of fear Connell experienced in his life. Perhaps he felt 'hunted' at one point in his life and decided he had to run away from all the pain and anger. For instance, his father may have been abusive to him, so he decided to run away from the fear of being emotionally as well as physically hurt[ADM5]. Rainsford slid down the tree and struck off again into the woods... Following the trail with the sureness of a bloodhound came General Zaroff. Connell ran and ran and ran, but no matter how far he ran, his fears were always behind him. Connell would soon figure out what to do.
[ADM6]
Connell also showed the ability to overcome his fears. At the end of the story, Rainsford confronts Zaroff in Zaroff's own bedroom. Zaroff offers a truce, but Rainsford does not accept and they fight until the death. Rainsford had successfully faced Zaroff, his fear.[ADM7] Connell is showing that he overcame the fears he had in his life by facing them with confidence.

In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. We saw and read two pieces describing this phrase. The Most Dangerous Game is about a hunter, Rainsford, who thinks that animals don't have any feelings expect the fear of death and pain. When going to the Amazon to hunt for tigers, he accidentally falls of the yacht and washes up on a peculiar and dark island called Ship-Trap Island. There is only one huge house or castle where there is one man living there. His name is Zaroff and is also a hunter. The only difference is that he hunts humans instead of animals. He invites Rainsford into his house and tells him about the stuff that he does. Zaroff wants to kill him in a game he has never lost...until now. The other piece was a movie called

When Rainsford falls off of the boat, he has to try his best to stay afloat until he can find something to latch on to. He swims vigorously until he reaches Ship-Trap Island. "Jagged crags appeared to jut up into the opaqueness... dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs." It is midday and he is just searching for a place to rest when he runs into Ivan, the astonishingly large guard of the island. Zaroff, the owner of the island, joins in on their conversation about hunting. The conversation is interesting to say the least. Zaroff says, "You'll find this game worth playing…your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine. Outdoor chess! And the stake is not without value, eh?" Zaroff is trying to point out that he finds interest in hunting humans, and he wants to know if Rainsford will rise to the challenge. Rainsford is left with a choice to make; will he fight Zaroff, or will he decline and get killed by Ivan. The choice in this situation is pretty self- evident.

In today’s society, where there is political and civil instability in the nations of the world, many citizens become subject to human trafficking. Human trafficking has rapidly grown into a transnational issue. Transnational crimes are often a result of an organized criminal group. These criminal groups quickly exploit the citizens of an unstable country and will send them to other countries while using upgraded technology and the rise of global trade to their advantage. Aside from human trafficking, it also can involve the movement of firearms, vehicles, drugs, or human body parts. Many believe that human trafficking is slavery of the modern-day. Many nations have come together to work on ways to prevent and protect those subject to trafficking.
The Dangers of Fear Irish Playwright, George Bernard Shaw, once said, “The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them; that's the essence of inhumanity.” Inhumanity is mankind’s worst attribute. Every so often, ordinary humans are driven to the point where they have no choice but to think of themselves. One of the most famous examples used today is the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night demonstrates how fear is a debilitating force that causes people to lose sight of who they once were.

Human Trafficking is a lucrative business where people are bought, sold, and traded as if they are property. It is important to understand as that “Human trafficking is not 'caused ' by poverty, lack of education, lack of legal status, or any other vulnerability factor: human trafficking is caused by human traffickers” (Human Trafficking). With that being said, certain financial situations often incentivize traffickers to get into the industry and for victims to be tricked into human trafficking. A significant amount of money is being made in the human trafficking industry, however because of its
Our world today is filled with awful crimes that interfere with societies happiness and well being each and everyday. Different countries struggle with severe crimes that put their fellow citizens and cities in danger each and everyday. Some people question how to deal with such terrible inhuman acts toward people and societies each and everyday. In order to keep the world in tacked and a safe place against such crimes the International Criminal Court was first talked about in the 1970s, but became ratified to begin pursuing cases in July of 2002. The International Criminal Court is designed to prosecute, and bring to justice those responsible for the worst crimes, including genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, committed anywhere in the world (Hebel, n.d.) The ICC an independent international organization with 122 members, separate from the United Nations system (“Q&A: International criminal court,” 2011). It is the court of last resort, based out of Hague, Netherlands, and is only used when national authorities cannot or will not prosecute. The uniqueness of its purpose, structure, jurisdiction, and significance make its understanding essential to those studying public justice.
