Most people today follow the laws and principles that are designed to promote respect towards all, but is that really enough? Some believe it is enough and others believe we should go above and beyond in our in respect as well as what we offer in life. Therefore, what it means to be a socially responsible member of American society has become a controversial topic. Everyone has their own opinion of what that means. A socially responsible member of society gets involved, contributes to their community, and does things that will benefit others.
Some may argue though, that one only needs to follow the laws and principles and that going above and beyond when it comes to society is just too much. They may believe as long as they are not causing problems they are doing everything they are supposed to do and shouldn’t have to do more. For example, doing such things as not

They believe socially responsible citizens get involved and participate in activities within their community. The idea is that they not only better themselves, but at the same time better the world. One popular way to do this is by volunteering. There are many different ways in which you can volunteer and all it takes is a little time and effort. As once stated, “Volunteering can be one of the best ways there is for you to become engaged in your community” (Nanzer). Not only does volunteering benefit others, but it can have lasting benefits on the one volunteering as well. One who volunteers gains social and work skills, improves their health, and gains a sense of pride from their accomplishments. Moreover, the one volunteering has the chance to make a lasting impact on another’s life. Additionally, there are many other ways in which one can contribute to their community, such as donating or attending local events. Donating the items you no longer need can really help those that are in
Social responsibility is the ethical foundation and guiding principles we are to live by. This trickles down from organizations, to the individual level. It’s the duty of everyone to help in need. By doing so, helps keep the balance in our society as well as our ecosystem.
Currently, there are many discussions regarding society’s views on how a “good” person should act. For example, in one society going to war may be viewed as a patriotic act, while in another society it may be viewed negatively because it can be seen as an act promoting violence. Furthermore, there are flaws in always conforming to society’s standards because it takes away one’s individuality. These topics are raised in the “Unknown Citizen” which is a poem by W.H. Auden that describes a man who is viewed by society as a perfect person and also in “Do Not Go Gently” by Dylan Thomas where he urges society to not accept death and fight it. As a result, there are actions that society declares as being righteous, but it is also important that people follow their own intuition because that way they become their own person.
What is social responsibility? Social responsibility is an obligation to act in a way that benefits society at large, people can do this through working to help improve Earth’s sustainability through processes such as recycling, composting, and being polite to others. Thanking a police officer or veterans for their service, or confronting consequences and accepting them are just a few examples of social responsibility. Sadly, the vast majority of individuals are not socially responsible. We are often fueled by fear, and the fear of losing power is so devastating that we make irrational and socially irresponsible decisions. Then, when those individuals work in a business or group themselves into corporations, those corporations are not socially responsible either. I have made the following promises to myself about my individual and social responsibility: Be economically responsible, be socially friendly and be a good influence on others.
My main focus on volunteering is to help and/or improve other individuals lives. Whether it’s a small thing like shoveling elderly neighbors driveways during the winter or a bigger thing like running youth group at the local church and leading prayers. Not only do the people I help get joy from it, but helping others surely puts joy in my life too. Also, with the knowledge I have acquired through high school, tutoring others is something I enjoy doing because helping others understand something difficult is very important. During school, assisting teachers with going to grab printed papers or picking up excess garbage in the cafeteria after lunch are many of the things I do to improve the school and the people in it such as students and faculty staff. Like my dad always says, life isn’t about bettering yourself, it’s about offering your skills and traits to better the community and the people in
Why I want to volunteer I am directionless. Lost in a sea of people; people who all seem to know what they want to do with their lives. Volunteering can help me find a direction, a path that I want to be on. Assisting patients and workers provides more information on working in a hospital than any course or the internet can provide.
Everyone has a responsibility as a citizen of America to do his duty to help our nation get better every day. By volunteering for special interest groups, not buying products that harm the world, and by being a little bit nicer to people the world be a little bit nicer.
I would like to begin by telling you what the definition of “Civic Responsibility” is: “Responsibility of the Citizen”. That is not the definition that I, myself, take as the meaning. To me, Civic Responsibility means that, “If you are going to consider yourself part of a group, or civilization, then you have to pull your weight. Whether that be through your work, or just keeping your neighborhood clean, everyone has a job, and they should be expected to do that task in a timely manner.” Now, whether or not you agree with that statement or not, that was my opinion, and we are all entitled to our own. I believe that the purpose of this assignment was to get us thinking about how others felt, and acted towards someone who is out changing the
We are each tasked with being socially responsibility in the context of treating others as you want to be treated and practicing what we preach. It involves actively participating in community social activities such
Social responsibility is the part of the framework of an organization or individual which makes up an obligation to act for the benefit of society. There are many different ways act out social responsibility. The social responsibilities of a business can be classified according to the businesses relationships to the general public, customers, employees and investors. The companies that make their product or service with the rooted mindset of benefiting the community and the world around them do this by providing things like scholarship funds, all natural products, biodegradable storage, and or just by treating the consumer as well as the employees as individuals rather than a corporate dollar sign. Businesses may exercise
Learning how to live together takes much more than minding one’s own business. Each human is upheld to the standards of having the social responsibility to facilitate how the world works around them. With social responsibility in mind, it helps to understand what social responsibility means. Humans are born to be social beings. Humans are meant to communicate with one another so that connections
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Taking everything into account, an individual who creates a sense of responsibility, should have responsibilities to environment, state and community. In addition, to be good citizen should be able to continue his/her lives without limiting the freedom of other people. Also, he/she does not forget that where they live and what they share with other people. People who understand the importance of being and aware of consciousness should interrogate what is happening around and assess other members in societies. Therefore, people should avoid to discriminate between individuals and to refrain from breakup the social morality. Also, the social ties which are established by individuals, provide peace and security in the country and increase the level of development. Thus, when all are present or applied, number of good citizens arise.
Helping Hands has helped my family in the past. Several years ago my family was struggling with income and Helping Hands was generous enough to help us pay our electric bill. I chose to volunteer at Helping Hands because I wanted to give back to the program. At the time, it seemed like there was little value in sorting piles of toys but then the manager shared with me that many children would be very happy to receive these toys for Christmas. This one comment helped me to put it all into perspective. Volunteering isn’t about me; it is about playing an active in the community. Bringing joy to families who are suffering, giving hope to the hopeless.
