PEORIA, Ariz. Veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit expects to throw another bullpen session Monday and is optimistic that five or six Cactus League appearances next month will have him ready for the start of the Mariners' season in April. Benoit, 38, who has been limited by a tight hamstring and back, threw his first bullpen Friday and said he's feeling completely healthy. He anticipates throwing live batting practice soon. Benoit will serve as the club's primary right-handed setup guy in front of closer Steve Cishek, but he says he can still close if needed. DiMaggio’s next big step in his baseball career was going to play in the minor league. While DiMaggio was in the minor league he played for the San Francisco Seals. His biggest achievement during this season was that he hit safely in sixty-one games in a row which was a big accomplishment for DiMaggio (Kindred 26).
I then asked him what his motivation to succeed is and he had one quick answer, his family. His father and mother got divorced a couple of years back, but neither one has stopped supporting him in all his endeavors. He said that both are always there for all his games and that every time he is at home plate getting ready to hit his homeruns he hears his mom scream his name and cheer him on. When it comes to preparation, Villar takes it extremely seriously. “I haven’t had any serious injuries to be honest, the most time I was out was 2 games for a sprained ankle and then I was good to go. Preparation is probably the most important thing, I can’t imagine what missing a season must be like.” When he said this his tone turned very serious and it was easy to tell that it is something he just does not play around with after seeing multiple teammates go down because of bad preparation and careless behavior. He told me he warms up for every game the same way and keeps a routine that works for him. In 2013 he had an out of this world .423 OBP for the Cleveland Indians, a mark that is simply unheard of in this day in age. But he struggled in 2014 for the Rangers, not at all living up to the expectations that his big contract brought. Rangers fans were incredibly upset, and felt that they were spending their money in the wrong places.
When people think of baseball, pitchers normally come to mind: starters, relief pitchers and then there are the closers. The closer is a crucial asset for a baseball team, without an outstanding closer a team could fold in the last inning of the game. To be a great closer, one must have excellent control, the ability to outwit a batter, and movement on their pitches. In order to be remembered as one of the all-time greatest closers, they must have the statistics as well as effective pitches. Mariano Rivera, the most well-known closer for the New York Yankees, was able to use his background to further his love for baseball by accomplishing many goals set during his career while also setting the highest rankings in baseball closers’ history.

Shohei and Babe were their team's most valuable pitchers and most skilled pitchers. Ohtani’s earned-run average was 1.86 and Babe’s was 2.28 earned-run average. Both Shohei and Ruth have good pitching stats, but Sports Illustrated claims that Shohei will do amazing in the 2018 season and that he is an extraordinary player just like Babe was. They also think that he will help his team go into the playoffs to try and help them win the World Series or get them really close.
Before the Bullpen was available Turner would have a small cage set up in his garage in the winter so we could still work on hitting. A couple other baseball players and I would go there and hit whenever we got the chance. This way we had a play to keep practicing for the season to come. Even during the season he allowed us to come hangout at his house if we wanted a place to chill out before a practice or a game. If we wanted to work on pitching or hitting he would take time out of his day, away from his family, to help us get better. With the help of Shane and Kat Akers they were able to create the Bullpen in Kat’s dance studio. We then could move from makeshift cage in Turner’s garage to a full blown indoor cage. There are two full cages, hitting tees, and even pitching mounds. If people want to hit he will go out of his way to open up the Bullpen for them. Turner has done this for me multiple times for me. There has even been times when he would stay late with me so I could work on my swing or work on pitches I wasn’t quite comfortable with. Turner has been helping me get better at baseball since the seventh grade. He has helped me become the baseball player I am today. Turner has been there for me for more than just
Do you know what it is like to have English as a second language, coming from a Palestinian-American family? Learning Arabic alone was a difficult task to achieve, but with the help of my parents and the Arabic classes my parents enrolled me into, I was able to master it in a reasonable period of time. My other task was to master English as I was enrolled in English- only schools. My parents pushed me through this process by putting me into multiple programs for foreign students, and they also pushed me into reading and writing at least one book and one essay a week, whether it was a paragraph, or more than one-page long. It required much patience and concentration, but it was a very attainable goal that required a satisfying amount of dedication.
Growing up in a bilingual household, I have struggled with many things especially reading and writing. Reading and writing have never been my strongest points. The first struggle that I can recall, is when I was about six or seven years old. I was beginning my education at Edu-Prize Charter School. I was a cute little kid, in the first grade, just like everybody else. But in the middle of the school year, my mom told me that my great, great aunt, who lived in China, was getting really sick and old. So if I wanted to meet her, it had to be now. Being a little kid, I didn’t quite understand why she couldn’t just go see the doctor, take some medication, or let time heal her. Unfortunately, now I know it was my mom’s way of saying that she was dying. My parents made the decision that it was probably the best way for me to understand my Chinese culture, along with meeting my relatives on my mother’s side of the family. Every pitcher has mechanics; mechanics is a good name for it for the mechanical motion which is gone through generates force. “The pitcher’s arm acts as a lever which gives him mechanical advantage, increasing the force.”(1) Let’s look at the transfer of force through the wind-up. A good pitcher hits what is known as the power triangle, this power triangle looks like this: “The lead or glove arm is up at shoulder height and the shoulder is closed. The lead foot has landed on or slightly across the mid-line, the throwing arm is in the high cocked or L-position with the ball facing back toward the shortstop and the head is level and in the top center of the triangle formed by the two feet.”(2)
Baseball has always been America’s natural past time. Many fans love watching baseball but do not realize how hard it is to prepare for a season. Most fans think the players just show up on the first day. I think this belief is completely false. I feel that preparing for a baseball season requires much preparation. The preparation I use includes working on my swing, working out, and studying other people’s ideas on hitting. These steps are necessary for me to have a successful season. These steps have proven to be a valuable aid in helping me to prepare for the season. I believe these steps are the basic steps to becoming a great baseball player.
