The definition of volunteering is “a person who volunteers himself or herself for a service or undertaking” (). Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes from picking up trash all the way to helping people find jobs. A common misconception of volunteering is that it only benefits those who receive attention from the volunteers, thus making people with genuinely selfless personalities being the only ones who volunteer. While this is true, it also holds false foundation. Everyone can and needs to volunteer, including the elderly. Volunteering helps the volunteer just as much as the people benefiting from it. The art of volunteering greatly helps the volunteer’s physical and emotional life. Volunteering can help improve existing skills and …show more content…
For example, if someone spends time volunteering at the local pound, over time they will generate emotions to the animals they are helping. These emotions can make them treat their own pets better and even stray animals found with no home. When someone volunteers they are generally putting themselves in a rough spot. In these spots you can build incredible friendships and connections. Seeing what other people have to go through can reinforce everyday emotions like thankfulness and empathy. “Understanding community needs helps foster empathy and self efficiency” (tritonlink). When someone volunteers they are not only helping out the community as a whole but also themselves. When people can unite under one common goal everyone can benefit. From a football team to a country's government, when people unite to achieve something everyone benefits, not just the football team’s fans our countries people but also the team and government themselves. Volunteering can open people's eyes to the world and help them develop more emotions, but can also physically help the bodies of the …show more content…
When these skills and emotions are added to someone, their physical health also increases tremendously. “Those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer” (National). People can volunteer at all ages. Volunteering at an old age can get people up and moving out of their house and having daily contact with other people. The people that are willing to volunteer generally have everything in their life together. Volunteers always seem to be happy selfless people that want to share their happiness with other people. Calmness and a peace of mind can play a key role in a person's health. For this reason, most volunteers will in fact have lower mortality rates and depression. Volunteers also stay busy. The volunteers work ethic keeps them more functionable later in life. For example, if someone is sixty year olds and volunteers on a regular basis, it is common sense that they will be more healthy than a sixty year old that lives by themselves in a home. Their active lifestyle will greatly help their physical health. In conclusion, volunteering can actually help the volunteer’s physical and emotional body. They can learn great applicable skills that can be used in all scenarios. They also experience an increase in important emotions and such as empathy. Lastly, they even experience improved health like less depression and more

Some people volunteer to gain career experience, to build their resume. Develop skills or learn new ones. In addition volunteer work enables others to make contacts with people in their chosen career.
It helps a person make new friends and it is good for increasing the number of people one can fall back to when they need someone to listen to their problems. It is also helpful with building one’s social and relationship skills. “[Volunteer service] gives [a person] the opportunity to practice and develop social skills” (Saisan and Smith). Another benefit is that it is good for one’s physical and mental well-being. “Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.”

I had to plan fun events, but also make them very inexpensive. This was an
According to David Lisman, author of “Toward a Civil Society : Civic Literacy and Service Learning,” “Volunteerism aids the community as it increases access to opportunities and services. It leads to better delivery of services, greater inclusion and participation in development (56).
Through volunteering, teens continue to educate themselves outside the classroom on the real world. It allows teens to learn about themselves and the difficulties faced by the people around them while still preparing for the future and adding to their resume.
Volunteering is a great way of helping out with issues in the community that would otherwise be insurmountable for any one individual.
If you had the opportunity to change the world and your life, would you? I have many experiences with volunteering and each time it has left an impressionable effect on me and benefitted the world because of it. Volunteerism gives a person the opportunity to change people’s lives, including your own. Volunteering is crucial to a functioning society and can better the world one person at a time. Volunteerism is essential to creating a functioning society, personal well being, and advancing careers.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
As my father tells me “to acquire quality education and knowledge, you may even have to go to the moon!” Baylor Scott & White Medical Center of Irving is less than twenty minutes away from my house and provides an ideal location for me to volunteer. I have volunteered in a plethora of locations previously, including clinics, schools, and Masjids, but have yet to volunteer at a comprehensive location such as this medical center. I am deeply interested in volunteering here because of its proximity, my future career aspirations, and, most importantly, the opportunity to aid others. I have heard countless positive remarks about BSWMC-Irving from numerous persons, including school counselors, friends who have previously volunteered, and even plenty
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
