It’s 2016 and if someone doesn’t have social media, then they are just plain weird or some seem to think they are. It’s crazy to think that 20 years ago, we didn’t even have any types of social media. How did we live? Everyone in America has some kind of access to the internet which means they have access to social networking. Social media sites include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Tumblr, etc. But is it really as great as everyone thinks? I use to think social media was a fantastic invention to help improve our lives but there are starting to be more cons than pros. On social media people post picture’s, or write statuses, or tweet about things that are going on around our nation. In a study done forty nine percent of users on social media spread unreliable news or have heard false information (“Are Social Networking”). I mean, if you see it on Facebook or Twitter it must be true, right? With social media, it is extremely easy to get people to see things on their side and not show the actual facts which is causing our society to not even look at what the truth may be and just go off of what one person are saying. Another negative impact of social media is the privacy issue. In social media, it encourages users to post personal things or just anything about what is going on in their lives and make it public so anyone could see it. Over billions of users on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter do not have the privacy settings on their networking, which means that anyone can see what they post at any time (Jung). I don’t know what others think, but knowing that some pervert could be out there looking at my pictures and seeing what I’m doing is not a good feeling I want to have.
