Professional Path Project Throughout one’s life, there are many driving forces. Some of them are based upon one’s background; others are based upon one’s desires. In the realm of Higher Education, one does not enter lightly into a position, for, if one does, it can result in a burnout. It behoves individuals to play to their strengths and fill out their weaknesses so as to be a well rounded individual who is able to deal with a variety of situations, both positive and negative, as they arise. Throughout this paper, it is the goal of the author to do just that. Overview of Professional Experience The author has held a variety of positions within higher education. However, none of those positions were in respect to administration or governance, save positions of absolute autonomy wherein the aforementioned governance is self-governance. The author has been employed in Higher Education in some way, shape, or form since October of 2007. The areas in which the author has the greatest amount of experience is in 1:1 education, private education, tutoring and library work. The author has provided 1:1 education as well as tutorial services to the universities, colleges, seminaries, and lower level schools in New Jersey and the Greater Atlanta Area of Georgia since 2011. Time and time again, education proves to be an incredibly important topic. This is because the education systems are responsible for adequately preparing students for positions of leadership, responsibility, and power as they get older. After pondering over the specific meaning behind professional identity and how I should answer this question, I realized that my professional identity is how I perceive myself within my occupational context. I was also going to mention some exact words that described me, however, I believe that a professional identity is not permanent. It is a concept that continues developing throughout our lives. I would like to refer to my professional identity as a process that is constantly influenced by my professors and their teaching style, by my interactions with my peers, and by the way I communicate with others. One of the things that I think is really important to me as a counselor in training, which I learned in my Master’s program, is the ability to empathize with people who come with a problem. I think empathy is a key element in the helping profession, and I enjoy learning how to do it the best possible way. Another factor that is very important to me is providing a sense of autonomy to clients and create an environment for them to feel safe to express what they are going through in life.

I have been involved in working with venerable people for over twenty years and have worked within many different settings. As part of my work, I have worked with people within sheltered accommodation to more recently, working with vulnerable families living with poverty and deprivation. I have mentored young people who were at risk of being excluded from and often had chaotic home lives, some with Special Educational Needs. Due to the nature of my work, I had needed to have a high level of interpersonal skills and to be approachable to people from all areas and backgrounds of society be they parents, governors to social services or the police.

I have never had a real job, but I have taken commissions and sold pieces since seventh grade. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an artist and that the job title emphasized entrepreneurship and self employment. These past few years, I have spent my time promoting my art and trying to establish myself with a strong base. My work experience includes making art, website building, talking to potential buyers, and selling art. Because of the different facets of my job, I have initiated a web of important connections and gained the skills necessary for being self employed. I have learned to vary my streams of income as only having a website or only selling at galleries is not feasible or wise as it is important to create a financial safety net and vary clients. Through commissions and freelancing, I have become better at interacting with others, developing different styles that suit each piece, and making sales.
My practicum was an exciting opportunity to learn and gain classroom experiences in the early childhood education field. Although my field experiences require energy, time management and personal commitment which was the fun part of the program. My children were considered the highlight of my practicum. My practicum gave me ideas and inspiration for caring of children. I devoted five hours out the day from Monday thru Thursday with a total of twenty hours a week. When I first arrive for my practicum, I noticed some new faces in the classroom that I had not meet. The new children were hesitate and did not speak to me at first. However, as days went on they began to open up and have conversations. For the first time, I was able to see how children adapt to one another along with interactive with teachers and their

I can see how most of my strengths that God has given me are weaved throughout my life, in my work history and my relationships. There has been a growth process with these strengths that I feel will continue to be refined throughout the rest of my life.
Around the age of seven I started going to first grade so my parents’ focus went all on that. Everyday I could hear my mom screaming be careful and especially she would say, “don’t take candy from strangers” which was getting annoying day by day. The idea of values started when I was going to school because before that I was at home and even when I wasn’t, I was still with my parents. The reason why they cared so much was because I was their only child and they wanted me to learn everything and be smart about whatever that was happening around me. When it was around their grade, I started to be a part of a concrete operational stage, and started to think logically about the world around me. One of my favorite subjects in school was mathematics.
