Greek’s Culture and its influence in Tampa Bay

The culture of Greece is quite interesting and fascinating. The book, Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter by Thomas Cahill, takes us through the history of Greece. At the beginning of every chapter in this book, the author will give us a story to read so we could then understand the material better. The Greek culture is filled with many amazing stories and myths by writers and philosophers such as Homer, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Pericles, etc… The main ideas of these stories involved love, war, honor, politics and education. These are some of the things that shaped the Greek culture. Other things that also shape Greece are their arts, architecture, music, dance, and drama. Greece has impacted many other cities and countries all over the world.
The Greeks are people that will fight and give up everything at war. They value true honor and they lived by the Heroic Code which states “To fight for honor and glory and to be remembered and to prove you deserve everything society has given you.” Other ways to live by is by individualism which is breaking away from societal norms to succeed, or The Mediocre, which are people that don’t do anything for society. We can see people that have these characteristics in the Tampa Bay area and we can relate to these ways of living. We see people that want and fight for honor, others that don’t follow rules and succeed and people that just simply only care about themselves.
Another big thing I want to touch on is the arts and architecture of Greece. Their styles in art have evolved from the Mycenae period through the Hellenistic period. A place where you can find Greek arts and sculptures is at the Tampa Museum of Art. In the museum...

Another thing that points out the Greek influenced in Tarpon Spring is their arts. There are various museums in Tarpon Springs where you can see Greek influenced art. The Heritage Museum shows us the history of the Greek community. We get a glimpse of their traditions, celebrations, dance, music and arts. Other museums include Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art and Stafford House Museum.
In conclusion, Tampa Bay is influenced by the Greek culture. You can see it all around you. The Greek culture is portrayed in Tampa through its arts, building architectures and cuisine. Even though the culture of Greece is very old, we can still see it today in many different places all over the world. Every day that you walk around the city of Tampa you can find something that will remind you of Greece.
