Gay Marriage Why isn’t gay marriage legal yet? How does gay marriage affect people that aren’t gay? Why does it matter to those people? Why can’t gay people have the same rights as straight people? Gay marriage should be legal worldwide. Gay marriage or same-sex marriage is when a man and man or women and a woman get married. Same-sex marriage impacts society in different types of ways, some people are affected by it because they think it is against the bible, others seem to have no impact or problem with same-sex marriage. However for the gay community it affects them, because in some states they are not allowed to marry the one they are in love with it. Also it impacts them because there are groups of people against same-sex marriage and the gay community is constantly being judged by people opposed to same-sex marriage. Seventeen states have legalized same-sex marriage; Thirty-three states banned same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage provides a more stable environment for children of gay couples. Legalizing same-sex marriage does not affect or harm heterosexual marriages. Marriage is a union of love, not a union of genders. Same-sex couples should be allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment in the same way as heterosexual couples. It should be legal because the gay community should have the same rights as everyone else does. Many argue that same-sex couples should have the ability as to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that banning gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. People opposing gay marriage say, “We must protect traditional marriage and the traditional family.” Matthew McTighe of the Mainers United for Marriage debates responds by saying, “Prote... ... middle of paper ... ...g and legalizing gay marriage. By not accepting gay marriage is discriminating gay people, they should have the same rights as everyone else does. What people don’t understand is it's not a choice to be gay. You don't chose who you love, you just do. You are born gay; you can’t choose to be gay. Using the Bible as a reason is complete nonsense. God created everyone equal. There is a separation between Church and State, one should not clash another. If you're trying to legalize something, you can't use the Bible as an excuse. But if you are, it also says "Judge not lest ye be judged." However they are still judging gays? Why is it fair to treat others wrong because of something they don't have any choice over? I never chose to be straight and honestly why would a gay person choose to have all that hate in their life? If love is legal than why can’t gay marriage be?
Within America’s society today, 3.8 percent of the population is gay, lesbian, or bisexual. With only 17 of the 50 states legalizing and recognizing this type of relationship (“History…”), it puts a stronghold on same-sex couples to publicly declare their love with the promise of marriage. Same-sex marriages should be legalized because everyone has equal rights of freedom and liberty.
Legalizing gay marriage has been a controversial topic in the past few years. In my opinion, gay people should be allowed to get married because it is a civil right. It shouldn 't matter what gender they prefer because they 're still regular people. Making gay marriage illegal, is the same as taking away someone 's freedom and civil rights. That is unethical and completely awful. There 's no harm being done by letting two people who are in love with each other get married. However, many religious fundamentalists are against this and believe gay marriage is wrong and needs to be stopped. Homosexual couples should have the right to get married because it 's a civil right and their sexual preference doesn 't make them any less human.
The disagreement for being against same-sex marriage comes from it being a sin in some point of views and dishonors the true meaning of marriage. These kind of people that worry about what others are into and try to manipulate others are just irritating. If someone wants to perform a sin, let them sin without a headache. Well, there have been studies to show that gay marriage does in fact lower divorce rates, and it promotes equality and reduces homophobia. Religion has been a big issue with judging homosexual. Some Christians believe that the Bible speaks with one clear voice in condemning homosexuality. In many Anti-gay Christians groups see homosexuality as sinful. Using the Bible to justify their hate against anything they do not understand.
In the United States, conservative Christians are more involved than ever when it comes to limiting the right gays and lesbians to marry, claiming that it’s wrong due to the fact that the Bible clearly states that marriage is between a man and a woman (Burn 178). “Most fundamentalist and conservative religions will not ordain gays and lesbians or permit them to serve in religious leadership roles (Burn 178).”
In fact most of the time it’s the anti-supporters bugging the LGBTQ community. The LGBTQ community just wants equal rights for all types of people, whether it’s in marriage or adoption. The anti-supporters often use the bible to state that LGBTQ rights should not happen. They use passages such as Leviticus 18:22 which states, “ 'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.” These rules have changed over time and Leviticus rules according to Galatians 3:10 are cursed laws. Then according to Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us.” This basically states that Jesus rescued us from the cursed laws by dying on the cross. Galatians 5:1 explains that “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” All this is saying that you shouldn’t follow the rules of Leviticus because Jesus sacrificed himself to get rid of the curse. So in turn, it’s okay for men to sleep with other men, the bible is not a decent justification for not having LGBTQ
... against anyone else’s moral beliefs. My belief is that no one's personal morals should be incorporated into the US government as this contradicts the idea of Free America. I don't feel that laws should be passed to protect homosexual rights and expression, but to protect everyone's rights and expression. Anyone who wants to follow the bible's morals and the idea of natural marriage and procreation, should absolutely be allowed to do so. And anyone who wants to have and practice moral beliefs opposite or in any way different than the bible's established beliefs. However it's important that people realize that everyone has opinions, and some people are bound to have different opinions then some of the people around them. It is important to me that we are able to coexist while holding our own opinions, some different and some the same as our fellow citizens of America.

On the other hand people see gay marriage as the worst thing to happen to world. Society has made it prevalent that most marriages are supposed to be made between a man and a woman. Whether it is in television or even in music, usually guys are supposed to be attracted to girls and visa versa. The gay right movement started in 1969, riots, struggles, and problems followed after. In today’s society, it has been showed that people are opening up to gay rights. There has been effort in protecting the gays and discrimination against gays is now considered a hate crime and is illegal. However, gay rights still to this day struggle with state and federal legal circumstances. Same- sex marriage needs to be legal, couples who choose to be of the same-sex should be allowed to celebrate their commitment with each other the way heterosexual couples get to, both publicly and society acceptable.
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
In conclusion I argue that banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory. It is discriminatory because it denies homosexuals the many benefits received by heterosexual couples. The right to marriage in the United States has little to do with the religious and spiritual meaning of marriage. It has a lot to do with social justice, extending a civil right to a minority group. This is why I argue for same-sex marriage. The freedom to marry regardless of gender preference should be allowed.
Legalizing gay marriage has caused many problems in the society today. The U.S. Constitution is making some people go against their religious beliefs because of this law. I personally do not think people should have to go against their religion to support something that God would not be pleased with. We have enough things going on in this horrible world and irrelevant things like this should not be added to society’s problems.
Denying people to get married is a form of discrimination. People are being treated differently because of their sexual orientation and it is morally wrong. Gay marriage has no effect on heterosexuals. So why are so many heterosexuals against it? The arguments against gay marriage are unreasonable. Some believe that being gay is unnatural or influences children to be gay. Studies show that there is no difference between children raised by same sex or straight couples.
