The buildings that I chose to do were an advert for a powerful civilization. The emperors showed their power that they are the great leaders with a lot of money that could get many workers as they possibly could to erect their pattern of monument. The emperor Augustus used propaganda to ensure a vast base of support leading up to his renunciation in 27BC. The Roman emperors also built all these monuments in regard to public entertainment for their political advertising.
Bihzad has placed strong emphasis on the complexity of the palace’s architecture which he has adorned with colorful ornaments and emblazoned with gold. Each room is decorated with rugs and tiles featuring complex floral and asymmetrical patterns that cover each chamber from floor to ceiling. The palace appears to be three stories tall and features a balcony on the left and a zigzagging staircase on the right. The asymmetrical style of these two architectural features gives the impression of the work being 3-dimensional ...
Through out history, architecture has played an important role in ultimately defining the upbringing of a culture. Whether it be instilled for upholding the traditions or adapting over time through conquering and replicating previous dynasties, architecture is molded with the artistry of its environment and people. Two dynasties that are great examples of phenomenal architecture are the Ottomans and the Safavids. Though both dynasties have comparable traits in exterior and interior in design, they also have qualities that are exclusive to their own. We shall further discuss into the origins of both dynasties while correlating them through deeper analysis.

Another great accomplishment of Nebuchadnezzar is the Ishtar gate, which was dedicated to the gods; the gate was ornamented with animals, and decorated with glaze. The thriving atmosphere is another reason why Babylon was so powerful. Nebuchadnezzar made it his obligation to make Babylon the greatest place on earth, and while he was king, Babylon was the paradigm of
It challenges my mind to think of how these great buildings were constructed by the Egyptians so long ago. The use of precise measurements and careful architecture is outstanding for a civilization to practice in that period of time. I felt that I needed to look into these ancient landmarks more deeply and research as much is I could about them. Writing this paper is a good way for me to better appreciate and understan...
The Seagram building is the prime example of Mies' masterful use of steel. The bronze sheathed skyscraper soars thirty-eight stories high from its 90-foot deep pink granite plaza. Volume is everywhere apparent in this building, from the great columns that bring the structure to the ground to the welded bronze mullions holding the glass sheets in place. As enormous of a project this was, great attention was paid to purity and precision of design, following the fundamentals of the style. Details from doorknobs to stainless steel furniture throughout the building, spacious layout and functional use of all elements from interior office space to shower rooms, the Picasso backdrop signaling the entrance, the cantilevered portico entrance, and the luminous ceiling, make this one of the worlds most elegant skyscrapers. More importantly, pertaining to the International Style, Mies has expressed his elegant use of materials, and technological perfection throughout the building.
Designed by the English architect John Nash between 1815 and 1821 as a seaside resort for the Prince Regent, it combines a fanciful assortment of Chinese, Indian, and Islamic motifs (267). John Nash was an English architect who had designed the Royal Pavilion. When I saw this picture, I reminded of Hindu temples because of Royal Pavilion domes like a Hindu temple dome and the others domes look like a mosque dome. The Royal Pavilion is a countless architecture that is why people are keen to see. On my response, The Royal Pavilion is embodie a piece of art which are still standing in the same way and his art is evident. I agree with the author regarding a fanciful assortment of Chinese, India, and Islamic
One World Trade Center (WTC) is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere measuring up at 1776 feet tall. The built output sets new standards of design, construction, and prestige. Its beauty in New York City’s magical skyline makes it an icon. It is the most recognised and desirable office address in the world. In this essay I plan to argue that the social, political and economic status of society has affected the built output of this building considerably, for the good. Making the building one of the best skyscrapers in the world.
...re that was most unique to the Early Dynastic period was the oval enclosure with a centralized platform to lend stability to the shrine. Storage were found near the enclosure. The Temple Oval at Khafaje best exemplifies the unique formation of the oval enclosure in the temples. This enclosure had a double perimeter wall present which was highly unusual for enclosures. Another oval temple was found that Tell al Ubaid, which had a rectangular platform in the center. In the front of this platform there were elaborate decorations, which were belived to have fallen from the façade of the temple which had stood on the platform. Besides these oval temples there were also plans of temples with a number of single or double roomed shrines, one noteworthy temple is from Tell Chuera in North Syria. This design plan yields a closer resemblance to the west and megaron buildings.
One of the greatest feats of architecture is shown through the construction of the countless Egyptian pyramids. This construction process was a gargantuan task in the eyes of the modern builder, however these pyramids were beyond the wildest dreams of such a primitive society. The building material of a large portion of the pyramids is a modular stone cut to desire dimensions of whomever was in charge of building designs of such enormous structures. This matter of having a uniform building material shape and size is indicative of influence of Harappan culture on the Giza region of Egypt as Harappa was one of the first built environments to see the use of sun-dried mud bricks as construction material. The Egyptian pyramids are lacking in the use of a mortar-like substance that would hold the massive stones together, so it is shown that the Egyptians had their own style of architecture that best fitted their needs in their given environment. The purpose of the pyramids is called into question in reference to what their shape and size was. The whole idea of no “directly vertical” walls creates almost a rough dome-like structure giving off the idea that it is somewhat of a fortress, moreover an
In the following essay, I will be comparing and contrasting to architectural pieces by the Indians. The first is the Taj Mahal, a building constructed from white marble that took seventeen years to build in honor of Shah Jahan’s wife, Mumtaz Mahal (Z. Haq). This piece of architectural beauty belonged to the Mughal’s, the Muslim emperors in India (Z. Haq). The second is the Great Stupa at Sanchi, a holy, dome shaped structure that covers the body of the Buddha in honor of him and his contributions to Buddhism (Fischer, Julia). Furthermore, this structure was made of ruins, rocks, mud, and covered in bricks (Fischer, Julia). Both pieces of architecture are significant to the Indians, however they do contrast in some ways.
