The film scores in Indian films are very diverse from those found in Hollywood film. Hollywood films mainly consist of underscore except if the movie is a musical and has songs attached to the score. Bollywood is the Indian Hollywood, and is very large compared to Hollywood. Bollywood, on the other hand, has scores that mainly consist of songs. The scores for Indian films are considered filmi or masala film. Bollywood still has the underscore when a songs in not being performed. Many times during the songs, the singers are not in the scene but are dubbing over the scene in their own voices. These items songs are the strength of Bollywood, and have caused a lot of diversity. Bollywood and Hollywood both have their own unique features, and at times start crossing over in to each other. Movies like “Slumdog Millionaire” have had a huge impact of the combination of the two large film industries. Many times religions like Hinduism are represented in the movies, also emotions are represented.
Bollywood is older than Hollywood, but only by 11 years. Even though over 1000 movies are produced in Bollywood, only 15 – 25 % movies thrive and the rest are failure. This still produces over 3-4 billions viewers which surpassed Hollywood in 2004. Hollywood’s first production came out in 1910 whereas Bollywood’s first production was in 1899. This created an increase in studios, which in turn increased the amount of scores being generated for films. This boost was taking place around 1930’s. These Bollywood films are often called masala films and contain overdramatic plotlines, costumes, flashy costumes and surroundings, along with item songs and dances. As a director, she effectively combined the techniques of sound, editing, costume, colour and location to produce a fairly unique Bollywood film. Her message of the continuing modernisation of India, and her criticisms of both the societies she illustrates in the film comes across clearly, as do the more controversial points she brings up that Bollywood, as a film industry, does not typically address. Its appeal and effectiveness can be measured by the huge range of global audiences it has attracted, both Western and Eastern, which indicates that she accomplished her goal of making a realistic movie, breaking the traditional Bollywood mould.

Dr. Vernon Johns was a pastor and civil rights activist in the 1920s. Johns became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama in the late 1940s. This style would not have been able to spread so quickly if it not had been for the familiar themes and culture found in the genre. Because of this diverse make-up, Bollywood dance is being questioned, for it cannot be seen as traditional Indian dance if it is made up of so many different cultures and styles. Due to the creation from a wide assortment of cultures and practices, Bollywood dance has been the subject of a controversy focusing on its authenticity. An argument can be made to justify the validity of that statement. However, this paper aims at presenting the influence of Bollywood on Hollywood in terms of music, dance and visual representation. During the course of this semester, the several musical styles that have been discussed and analyzed have displayed various similarities and differences. These differences in certain musical elements have accounted for the distinctiveness and uniqueness of each style of music. The culture behind these countries’ music adds even more to their individualism. Cultural aspects such as religion play a huge role in the music of each country as well. Styles of music in Africa might be more upbeat than certain styles in India, for example. Some cultures use music in religion, while others may not. Aspects such as dance are important factors in all three types of music. Despite the differences and similarities, however, without music, these cultures would perhaps not be as fascinating and unique as they are now.
Since the development of film industry, there has been a vast variety of movies representing different values that got published. We measure the success of the movie often by the box office's result but we seems to think that we can predict the results with the popularity of the stars in production. However, it has been proven wrong often. In the articles I've read this week, I found a common theme that although many movie has different theme, but fundamentally, they are similar; also the power of star isn't as influential as we believed. The general theme I find that connected with them all is the production of movies and what makes some of them good.

The origins of Indian classical music can be found in the Vedas, the oldest scriptures in the Hindu tradition (Ruckert 2004). Traditions, customs, and other societal norms envelop Indian classical music. In recent times, however, previously revered traditions have drastically diminished. Some claim that the decline of ancient traditions is causing the music to be impure; others assert the transformations of outdated traditions to modern ones foster innovation. Although the archaic traditions of Indian classical music have dwindled with time, the transformations to modern ideas and practices unequivocally promote innovation.
