Heroism can show itself in many shapes and forms from ordinary people to heroic and courageous people something to think about is that anyone can show heroism. A lot of people have shown heroism just by doing the right thing such as just helping someone or not acting mean towards others. heroism can show itself in many different forms but sadly some ordinary people don’t get recognized for the heroic acts that they do. The celebrity who remains modest and treats others with respect or who uses his position to help society. As if you don’t have the courage to save or help someone how could you be a hero? That is why courage is the most important quality of being a hero. An Example Of This would be the firefighter that goes into the blazing fire to rescue someone or a policeman arresting dangerous criminals and keeping crime of the streets. Those are examples of brave types of people that can be considered heroes for what they do. Also In The Story “An Everyday Hero” the son of the mother suffering from cancer says this “she fights against nature itself not only for herself, but to be there for all those she loves, and who love her.” this means that even people who are sick can be heroes as she is fighting to stay alive for those she loves and the people who love her. This just goes to prove that she is brave and that many more like her can also be as brave as her because she isn’t the only one that has had cancer and is fighting
Although not every hero shouts “Avengers Assemble” before a worthy deed, heroism is shown in all aspects of the everyday world. Webster Dictionary has exactly 5 definitions under the word hero and still no two people explain heroism the same. Superman and Captain America are a glimpse of the fictional characters society titles a hero. Firefighters and Military portray heroism each day in the lives of every civilian. As Sullivan and Venter stated “individuals are referred to as ‘heroes’ for seemingly different reasons” and even through endless studies the adjectives referring heroes is ever changing. Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
Anyone can truly be a hero, even in real life. Heroes can be people who simply have an idea and decide to grow onto that idea and have it done. For example, Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were real life heroes who started out as ordinary people but had a dream and made a huge difference in the end. Nelson Mandela, a Civil Rights activists, once said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference” (Lazaro). Nelson Mandela was trying to say that anybody can make a difference, but it is up to that person or people to make that change. One simple change could cause any simple person to have a major change in lifestyle just because they decided to step up and do something. Furthermore, anyone can be a hero, it doesn’t matter what one’s background is, one can make even the simplest of changes and become a hero to oneself and the people around them.
All in all, heroism is a vague word that could be defined as many of things. Such as bravery, courage, honesty, morality, trusts...etc. If Beowulf was defined as a hero then the knight should be defined as one also seeing as he gave the old women the choice to be old and good or pretty and bad. Or if the Author of The Art of Courtly love cannot be heroic and then write in a way of being heroic how can one decide what heroism is. All three of these studies show different forms and fashions of heroic people, feelings, and attitudes. Overall heroism is and always will be based on personal opinion, what one person defines as a hero can be completely different from what another person sees it as.

A man who fought to survive and get his withered body moving. A teacher to many, friend to some, and a coach to a very special former student, Mitch. When things are at their best prepare for the worst. That’s something I always told myself since I was young boy. Joseph Campbell was no stranger to this concept which he described as the hero’s journey. This journey had three stages: leaving the everyday world, overcoming trials and tribulations, and finally going back to the everyday world with newfound knowledge that you can share with people. We are conceived to believe that superheroes are the real heroes, they fly, have super-strength and at the end they save the day. However even the most typical person has the ability to be a hero. A hero is someone who is persistent during hard times and shows leadership when called out unexpectedly, but is not selfish when asked to put others before themselves.
The very being of heroism itself could go on and on in concept, except, when contemplated on heroism is really based off the views of the people, by the virtue of the society who unconsciously decided that you are a hero, and who has been inspired by these ‘heros’ to be better in themselves. With this subconsciously implicated into their minds, what is actually really true about a hero? This can only be answered through the hero’s own virtues, a precedent being the quote “Each person is different,” these four simple words are important because they prove how each hero is different, making how a hero is a hero different making how they affect each person differently, whether the hero is real or not.
