I. SYNTHESIS
At the mention of “Divine Revelation”, my thoughts on it before were very narrow and simple. Back then, I would have mostly thought of revelations that occurred during the time when Jesus Christ was still alive. I had this expectation that the revelations would be mostly relating to the prophecies that we know from the bible, or what the church is constantly saying is the message of God.
However, after getting to know the lesson more in detail and better, I realized that my perception of the topic was wrong, as “Divine Revelation” is much broader and more meaningful than we realized. Furthermore, I was able to understand better how “Divine Revelation” or simply God’s revelation is still very much present in modern times today.

The bible is what helps keeps our faith alive as it contains a rich amount of history that tells us of God’s revelation and the ways how our faith works. Although the bible contains numerous works of different people, it is still a work of God that helps our faith remain constant and grow, as everything written was under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In some way, I was able to understand the value also of the other books, as before I did not really take interest of the other books included bible, aside from the likes of the Gospels, Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, and Proverbs. Nevertheless, I realized that the books are all part of the bible as each has a purpose to serve and stands as a testament to the infidelity of humanity, and of God’s unfailing love for …show more content…
I am aware of the gospels that we have which are Mark, Matthew, John, and Luke, but just like the manner of how God reveals himself in other religions outside Christianity, the other divisions of the gospels came across as a another shocker for me. Although I am aware of the Gnostic Gospel of Mary Magdalene, but that is merely because of the film The Da Vinci Code, and I did not really know the entire extent of the Gnostic Gospels, which further escalated my curiosity for this topic. Anyhow, I believe by having these kind of divisions for the Gospel is good, because it helps people know and understand the truth about our faith. The way I see it, if the Gnostic Gospels were not classified as it is then there would be disunity and confusion around us in our religion. If it were not for the Canonical Gospels, the official gospels of the bible as they were written out of devotional and evangelical purpose, no one would be then certain of what our faith is really about and who Jesus Christ truly is to us. Also by classifying these gospels, people will be able to envision better the timeline of Jesus’ life and which are actual true facts about
He objects to a view which argues that John is speaking of God’s timing rather than ours by pointing out the concrete historicity of Revelation including churches and expressions used are “emphatic-declarative.” Regarding an objection which states that the events will ...
Theologian Vern S. Poythress wrote, “Theological systems, whether dispensationalist, covenantal, Calvinist, Arminian, or even modernist, have a profound influence on the way we approach a given [biblical] text.” There is no portion of scripture that is more influenced by the theological system of dispensationalist than that of biblical prophecy, particularly in the area of God’s redemptive plan from for humanity. The purpose of this essay is to establish that an appropriate understanding of biblical eschatology can best be achieved through a dispensational theological perspective.
The King James Bible serves as the world’s base belief system. The creation of the King James Bible from Tyndale’s writings on the New Testament help mode what the King James Bible is today. Psalm 23 is almost a direct copy of Tyndale’s version, but written in simpler forms for better understanding seen in Romans 1:1-3. And the poetic wisdom in The Sermon on the Mount and through the bible is very self-evident and shows Jesus not only teaching but to give visual gratification mentally. The King James Bible was formed with many literary elements and samples of other examples of God’s word put into layman’s language. The King Jams Bible was written for better understanding of the word. The bible today is the source of all knowledge of God and Jesus
Revelation is the process by which God makes himself known to us. Being that humans are finite and God is infinite, God must take the step to make himself known if humans are to truly understand God in all His majesty (Vandenburg, 2010). There are two ways God makes himself known to us, general revelation and special revelation. Theologians have generally thought, through our contact with nature, we are given the ability to know and interact with God. Nature, as created by God, is an element of general revelation.
Revelation is understood as the person of Jesus, and the second person of the Holy Trinity. He was incarnated for eternal life to live with the Father in the Holy Spirit. This allows us to be encountered by God, and allows us to know more about him than we did before. Christ being crucified and risen is the main focus of the Sacred Scriptures. To appreciate what the Dei Verbum taught us about the past and the present nature of revelation from blessed John Paul
However, in the end it is questionable if these are true revelations, and if the
1. The unity of the revealing subject and the revealed content of revelation: Self-revelation is not concerned with a revealed book, as in Islam, nor with a deposit of revealed sentences about “objects of faith” (e.g. the Trinity, the Incarnation, the sacraments), as in neo-Scholasticism. Rather it is based on God’s “self-disclosure” in the “personal enc...
I had multiple preconceptions about this article and the book of Revelation. Before reading the book I just thought of it as strictly apocalyptic. In church that...
..., there are good reasons why these gospels ultimately were not included into the canon it doesn’t mean that there is no good information to be gained from these books. When we take the information in stride and combine it with what we know from the Bible the information we get can be quite powerful and can add to the way that we view Christianity and Jesus.
The book of Revelation literary genre are apocalyptic, prophetic and epistle. The author of this book is John of Patmos. Its was written circa A.D. 95-96 (Hindson & Towns, 2013). There are many key themes in Revelation. The most important themes are the message to seven ecclesians, three and a half years of tribulation ruled by the beast, Jesus’ second coming, the final battle between Jesus and Satan, the millennium, and beyond the millennium. The purpose of the book of Revelation was to inform people about the events before and after Second coming of Jesus Christ. Revelations denotes the past, present and future of what is yet to come during Earth’s end of days. Major events that Revelations denotes will occur when Jesus returns include: National
No other book of the Bible and its interpretation is more controversial than the book of Revelation. The book of Revelation, written by John, is the last book in the New Testament and perhaps the most important book of the Bible. Revelation enforces the importance of faith and obedience to the concept of Christianity by describing God’s plan for the world and his final judgment of the people. Revelation answers the question of what the future holds for this planet and its inhabitants. While it is a sobering reality for those who have fallen astray, it can be a great comfort for believers. The book of Revelation is somewhat troubling to read because it is a forecast of God’s wrath upon humanity, and it is filled with warnings to the church to remain loyal and obedient so that they may avoid eternal damnation. Most other books in the Bible are concerned with teaching the church how to live in such a way that we will be at home in the New Jerusalem. The book of Revelation, however, tells the church why it is important to live according to God’s will in hopes that the church will be on the favorable side of God’s judgment.
Trinitarian theology within the book of Revelation is not at first sight easily recognisable amongst the plethora of images and prophecies that are recorded. The beauty of John’s theology is that the Trinity is deeply embedded in the text so that the reader must dissect the book in order to glimpse the theological beauty that is present. This essay will seek to explore the threads of the Holy Trinity that appear in the book of Revelation by looking at the characteristics of God, the specific Christology of John and the role of the Holy Spirit in the book of Revelation. In looking at each of these three areas as distinct yet overlapping threads I hope to give a succinct and scholastic Trinitarian theology of Revelation.
Eschatology has long fascinated many including myself since the beginning of time. There is just something that tends to fascinate our finite minds of the end of times. Over this time, many thoughts and perceptions has arouse from a wide variety of sources including scholars, theologians, scientists, sociologist, religions, colts, and many more. Consequently, each sources’ idea are different and unique from the others. The particle eschatology that is found throughout the New Testament tends to be the most studied and quoted collections of eschatological ideas that have been around since the creation of the Canon thousands of years ago. There are numerous books in the New Testament that directly and indirectly allude to the end of times. The most famous of these books, Revelation, is debated to be the most iconic literacy book on eschatology that answers a lot of question an as well creates a score of other new questions.
The Bible is the Word of God. It is God’s message for all of humanity. The Bible is divine revelation, breathed by God, written by men, and is applicable for all of humanity. In today’s world, there is controversy over if the inerrancy of the Bible and inspiration of the writers; however, there is little controversy over the simple fact of the New Testament, as a whole, itself. The Bible is not one long book, but rather, the Bible is a book consisting of various letters and manuscripts from throughout the history of mankind. A human being wrote every book of today’s Bible during various times in history. However, there is a classic divide in the books—Old and New Testament. The Old Testament is considered the Jewish Bible. This Bible was the original Scriptures during the time of Jesus and was the original Scriptures for many years. Therefore, not much controversy has risen over the assembly of the Old Testament.
This is not to say that the leaders of the Church cannot make new revelations or that the laws of the church cannot be clarified or modified for use in today’s society. New revelations can be made known by God whenever then need arises. These revelations are not new ideas or truths from God; they are me...
