Wake up with determination go to bed with satisfaction. Determination is the act of deciding or as the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose. Determination is a noun. Some synonyms are persistency, bravery and courage. Determination is a very important part in everyone's life. There is no one that in perfect and that has never failed at something in life. Some people have things that are easier than others. When you fail at something in life which as you may already know is bound to happen. In Warriors Don’t Cry Melba and eight other black students were going to enroll in an all white school. They were not wanted in school by the whites so they were treated poorly by the students and some of the teachers. The white kids could do anything they wanted to the African Americans in their school. “Bombs away… I looked up to see a flaming wad of paper coming right down on me… I hurdled my books up at them.” Melba was at school and not bothering anyone but some white girls in the school thought she was bothering them. They felt that they could drop flaming wads of paper on her if Melba wanted she could have curled up in a ball and let it happen, but instead she was determined to get out of this sticky situation. Melba was so determined to not let the white girls push her out of the school so she through her books at them. “Early the next morning a boy began to taught me as if he was assigned the job… I just kept to myself as I walked down the hallway.” Once again there is a white person that thinks they can do whatever they want to do. Melba was not about to allow a boy ruin her day at school and make her day miserable. She was determined to go to school and to stay at school. In the book Warriors Don't Cry, Melba has a very strong support system. Her mother, and her grandmother are very big supporters in this book. In the segregated south, white people had power and black people didn't. These nine black student that entered an all white school had very many people discourage them. Whites talked about them, looked at them, and made fun of them. Melba was one out of the nine black students that attended Central High school, but since she had a very supportive family, she didn't let anyone get to her. Melba Pattillo Beals book, Warriors Don’t Cry, is a memoir about her experience as one of the Little Rock Nine. From a very young age Melba sees the many problems with segregation. Throughout the book she recalls several memories involving the unfairness and struggles that her, her family, and other African Americans had to go through in the South during the time of segregation and the Civil Rights Movement.
The Jim Crow Laws were the basis of everyday interactions between black and white people in the South. Melba Beals and the other “Little Rock Nine” braving the walk towards the doors of Central High School and several other landmark events spearheading the demise of these laws. In the book “Warriors Don’t Cry”, Melba Beals recalls her life during the 1950’s in America. In the south, more specifically Little Rock, the Jim Crow laws were no longer contested.
Warriors Don 't Cry is a memoir written by Melba Pattillo Beals. It is about the author herself as a young girl named Melba, who grew up in a society of segregation. Nine students, including Beals, have the chance to integrate a white school called Central High. Mobs of white people were against it and would harass them and even try to kill them. Beals made history When the Governor of the State didn’t let the Blacks into the High School so the President sent the Soldier of the 101st to the state to escort them through the mob of Angry Whites. During this people shouted ugly words,, raised their fist to the Blacks, and Looked horrified of the Blacks while Beals and the Other Little Rock nine were getting escorted through the Town to the School. Beals said ‘’Some of the White people looked horrified, While others raised their fist, others shouted ugly Words,’’ Beals reaction to this is she felt sad and proud she felt proud that the country would do all of this to escort them to the school but Beals was sad that they had to go to such great lengths. Beals said that ‘’She was proud that I lived in a country that would go this far to bring justice to a little tock Girl like me but sad that they had to go to such great lengths.’’ Then the Soldiers of the 101st made a protective cocoon, and escorted them through the mob of Whites that did not want the blacks to be in there society. Warriors don’t cry is a story of the Little Rock Nine who went to Central High School; an all-white school with hopes to integrate blacks and whites into non segregated schools. The story mainly follows a girl named Melba and what her life was like at the time of going to this school and making a stepping stone into desegregation. However this took place in a time and place where white people were still being very racist towards black people. Some say sending a girl into a school like this is child abuse because these kids suffered death threats, being physically abused, and slandered against. As Beals' journey begins so do the warrior references, even before Melba herself is capable of realizing it. As Melba fights for her survival in only her first week of life, she is already being sung "On the Battlefield for My Lord" by her grandmother (Beals, 5). This foreshadows the impending war she will go on to fight as well as instilling her personal, family and religious values in the reader's mind. The exhaustion of the long commute to Monroe Elementary School everyday had upset me, the feeling of being powerless overcame my mentality. I constantly thought to myself about the all whites elementary school only seven blocks away, what made them so surprior? I, as a third grader, grew up to the discriminatory profiling. Of course it was nothing new, but I could not comprehend why. Recalling back to Monroe Elementary; the broken ceiling tiles, the wore down floors, and the cracked windows was not an ideal place for any education to take place. It had only proved to me that the segregation of white and black children made us African American students feel inferiority to the white American students.

Throughout the short story, ‘Then Later, His Ghost,’ Sarah Hall shows how strength and determination can get you through these tough times. My strong determination and tenacious will power are demonstrated on a daily basis. It is displayed in every aspect of my life. Strong determination is displayed in my school, in just the sole basis of me coming back to school and wanting to do better in my life.
