When applying for jobs, each employer is looking for different things when looking at potential applicants. In order to ensure that your application will be stick out among the huge stack of resumes and applications, you must be able to look at the job ad and decipher what the employer is looking for in the future employee. Next, an applicant should look at their experience and skills and tailor their resume and cover letter to meet the specifications for the employees. For this assignment, I chose to apply for a summer internship with Deloitte. This is a job that I am passionate about and being able to learn how to tailor my application to a particular company could not have came at a better time. Since Deloitte is focused on getting the best and brightest talent from the university level, I wanted to be sure that this was highlighted on my resume. In order to do this, I added a list of relevant coursework to my education section in my resume. I added the upper-level accounting classes to this section, as well as other classes that are relevant to the internship I am applying to. Being an first semester junior and having already taken five 300-level accounting classes helps show that I am a motivated student who know what my goals are in the future and is something that for sure should be noted on my resume. The next change I added to my education section was to include the scholarships that I have been awarded. Before, I did not list any of these scholarships because I did not think that they needed to be on my resume. I was in fact wrong about this. While a main reason I want to attend Macalester is its focus on internationalism and multiculturalism, my community-minded spirit is what I will bring to Macalester. Since the summer, I have been a regular volunteer at the Middletown Springs Public Library. I originally decided to volunteer because I love books and reading, but I soon discovered that the library is as much about building the community through books as it is about the books themselves. Every year on Halloween the library stays open and instead of handing out candy, we hand out books. After a successful evening this year, I went home glad more kids had books, but it wasn’t until the next week that I realized why this event was so important to the librarian, Kimberly. She told me that, surprisingly, she didn’t recognize many of the people who came for books on Halloween. The reason this excited Kimberly was because it meant Trick-or-Treat for Books was reaching more people in the community than just the regulars at the library. It meant that not only were kids given a free book, but that they were learning about the library and all it has to offer year round.

In order to compete with other candidates, a potential employee must make a good first impression so that he/she can have a step over the other candidates. This upcoming summer will be the second time that I work at Federated Investors as an intern. In order to acquire these internships, I had to participate in several interviews. I knew ahead of time that there were several other candidates applying for the same internship. Not only did I have to focus my preparation towards my resume, but I also had to focus on making a good first impression.
Scholarship is Academic study or achievement. I displays scholarship through my school work and grades. Applying to graduate school is an important process. Students must make sure that they meet all the expectations of the programs to which they are applying. However, the graduate schools must also meet the needs of the students. From what I have learned, the DPT Program at Franklin Pierce University exceeds expectations. Both the DPT program, and the university as a whole, show deep commitment to academic excellence, helping the community, and thoroughly preparing students for careers in their desired field.
In order for JP Morgan Chase to consider me as a prospect candidate as one of their summer interns, I will have to demonstrate to the recruiter I poses the type of skills they seek for. On the on-line job web site under description they list that the summer candidate that will be chosen must be able to work under pressure, tight deadlines, able to adapt well and assume high level of responsibility. They also require for this person to have a well rounded academic background in finance, a GPA of 3.0, strong teamwork, communication skills, and high energy level. Since the characteristics for the summer intern job come so close to the ones I already have it seems to be a perfect match opportunity for me and for JP Morgan Chase bank.

I think having scholarship is important to recognize in a student. It shows how one is dedicated and can think at a higher level than most students. I believe that I demonstrate scholarship in my classes. Since the start of my high school experience I have been trying my hardest to get good grades. In ninth grade I set a goal for myself to exceed in my classes, to get all A’s, and to receive a exceptional class ranking.
I do understand that a lot of people cannot afford it and need those scholarships, but I have always had a hard time with that since my family has a lot of other expenses and could use the money to help pay for college. I feel really guilty typing that, but I also get really frustrated that I am not eligible for any scholarships due to how I identify. Continuing on, identifying with the class I do, I do strive to work as hard as I can so that I can continue to have access to many resources.
