The Constitutional Convention took place on May 25 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.George Washington presided over the convention. The purpose of the Constitutional Convention was to decide the way that America were going to be governed. The Convention was officially called to revise the existing Articles of Confederation. The Constitutional Convention acknowledged the complications of the frail central government that prevailed under the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation main objective was to establish the branches of federal government and describe what powers they will have. In Article 1, it gives the Congress its powers and limits as well as create two sections in the congress which are …show more content…
The injustice within the system involve social injustice, racism, inequality, crimes that are committed that harms African Americans, and much more. For instance, in cases such as Freddie Gray, Trayvon Martin, and Eric Garner there was no justice given when there was clear evidence of what happened. However, the government fails to see the wrongdoing because they do not care for minorities, they fail to see the fault in the suspects because of their ethnicity, gender, and job. For some reason the government and the system justifies the wrongdoing and fails to punish those who does wrong to the minorities. If the roles were reversed and an African American Man were to commit these crimes then they would be sentenced to life in prison without parole which would provide justice for the families. This also highlights that African American men are the target and that the government does not want them to be successful, educated, valuable, or respected. The government rather destroy their lives. Many believe that the system is built to corrupt and destroy the lives of African Americans because they are scared for African Americans to have any type of authority or power. The government wants the Caucasian men to keep the authority and …show more content…
Young men from sub-Saharan are being auctioned off as farm workers in a slave market. Slavery goes against human rights and is a crime against humanity. Once again this violates the Constitution and the Amendment which the government has the ability to control. This is another example of how African Americans are still not equal years later. The Constitution fails to make a way for African Americans to be equal because it is too busy trying to protect Caucasians and their authority/power. Which also indicates the injustice, lack of respect, discrimination, racism, and inequality towards African
The Articles of Confederation was ratified in 1871 and considered to be the first Constitution of the United States. The goal of the Articles of Confederation was to ensure each states maintains its independence, sovereignty, and freedom. The Articles were ratified by all 13 states. (Daniel, P.14, 2010) The Confederation Congress called for a convention to meet in 1787 to be held in Philadelphia. The nature of the convention was to revise the articles of Confederation. The Confederation congress wanted the Constitution to be changed in a way that would render the federal Constitution adequate to the exigencies of government and the preservation of the Union. (Daniel, P.14, 2010)
From five states arose delegates who would soon propose an idea that would impact the United States greatly. The idea was to hold a meeting in Philadelphia called the Constitutional Convention in 1787 meant to discuss the improvements for the Articles of Confederation and would later be called the United States Constitution. The United States Constitution was greatly influenced by Ancient Rome, the Enlightenment, and Colonial Grievances.
The Articles of Confederation was the nation’s first Constitution. The articles created a loose Confederation of independent states that gave limited powers to the central government. Each state would have one vote in the House of Congress, no matter the size of the population. Members of the one-house Congress, such as Pennsylvania, agreed that the new government should be a unicameral legislature, without an executive branch or a separate judiciary. Under the article, there wasn’t a strong independent executive.
The 1787 Constitutional Convention was paramount in unifying the states after the Revolutionary War. However, in order to do so, the convention had to compromise on many issues instead of addressing them with all due haste. This caused the convention to leave many issues unresolved. Most notably were the issues of slavery, race, secession, and states’ rights. Through the Civil War and the Reconstruction, these issues were resolved, and in the process the powers of the federal government were greatly expanded.
The Articles of Confederation’s were written for a purpose, in the first place. This was done in hopes these articles would help guide and resolve problems that existed under the British rule. These articles were needed because the people were becoming increasingly disgruntled with the British government. The Revolutionary war had been fought because of anger and outrage for the British government. Thus, the Articles of Confederation were presented as a solution (Wilson, DiIulio, Jr. and Bose).
The constitutional convention began in Philadelphia on May 25, 1787. The thirteen colonies involved at the time we ruled under the Articles of Confederation. The articles however became weak had flaws that the founding fathers noticed quickly with the states appearing to have individual power. On September 14, 1786 a meeting was established that gave out a call for the upcoming grand convention. Attendance was a huge issue in congress. The delegates from those states believed that is they didn’t show up then nothing can happen, but everything happens anyways. After the Annapolis meeting, selected delegates from the colonies met in Pennsylvania. They had to create and make new laws for the constitution; such as, establishing a unified currency.
The United States Constitution is the document embodying the laws and principles by which our country is governed, and the founders who established it fought doubt and opposition to have it ratified. These federalists believed in a new form of government to unite the divided states into one country. The government would have one executive leader, with divided powers and rights reserved to the states. Following the months long Constitutional Convention, a system was finally decided.
In the 1787, delegates from all states, except Rhode Island, went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to strengthen the Articles of Confederation in the Constitutional Convention. The Constitutional Convention, also known as the Philadelphia Convention, the Federal Convention, and the Grand Convention (from May 14th to September 17th), was a conference that reflected on crucial alterations for the Articles of Confederation. Equally important, the Constitutional Convention was the origin of the United States Constitution. Therefore, the result of the meeting would impact the whole nation, as well as the nation’s survivability.
Many inequalities exist within the justice system that need to be brought to light and addressed. Statistics show that African American men are arrested more often than females and people of other races. There are some measures that can and need to be taken to reduce the racial disparity in the justice system.
The Constitutional Convention, which met from May 25 to September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is among the most important gatherings in America’s history. It is on this date that the modern day Constitution was spawned from the revisions of the original Articles of Confederation. These revisions were justified by the fact that the Articles of Confederation produced an inefficient government, lacking a strong federal branch and set of laws. The Constitution, however, produces an effective government by mending the flaws of the old Articles and by adhering to the peoples and states needs while also maintaining a strong federal administration through a system of checks and balances. The founding fathers agreed that the ratification
The Articles of Confederation was a plan of government that was based on the principles that were fought for in the American Revolutionary War. Even though The Articles of Confederation were based upon principles we fought for, it contained major flaws. The government had no power of national taxation and had no power to control trade. The biggest weakness of The Articles of Confederation was that it had no direct origin in the people, the states were in control. Each and every state had the power to collect its own taxes, issue currency, and provide for its own military. The Articles of Confederation was a transition between the Revolutionary War and the Constitution. Without The Articles of Confederation it would have been impossible to create the United States Constitution, mistakes were made with the first, and fixed later with the Constitution.
Then next came the fight for civil rights and voting rights. The right to be treated as an equal member of society and have access to fair education, employment, and resources to improve lives. For blacks or African Americans oppression in today’s society has taken a different route, a new form of slavery for the black man has merged; prison. The stark difference in the ratio of black men in prison compared to white men is dubious because in comparison to our smaller, we still statistically have more black men in jail. Structurally, the criminal justice is set up to fail the black men specifically, once you get in its almost impossible to get out, it is like a revolving door for them. Many are locked away for longer periods of time for minor offenses and typically get longer sentences than their white
The first thing I have learned from the role play Constitutional Convention, is that the first discussions are very important. I am certain that the preliminary discussions are important because they give understanding between factions, help other members stay on the same page, and because that is when thoughts of motions are to be created. The discussions between different groups help other groups make deals, and help them understand the needs that other groups have. If the factions were not to have discussions before the voting, then when making motions, people would have to make the motions hoping others would agree. While by talking with other groups, you can discover the other groups needs. Another reason why the discussions are important is because the discussions before the actual making of the motions assure that at least one faction would
According to A Report issued by the Justice Policy Institute, it showed that in 2002 the number of African American males in prison have grown to five times the rate it was twenty years ago (“Prison”). Many have speculated that reasons the population of African Americans in prison are so high is that the Justice System is corrupted and shows that Racism is alive and well. In some cases they may have been guilty, but there should never be a case were a citizen was striped from their rights and accused of a crime they didn’t commit or was protecting themselves from being killed. The Justice System is corrupted towards the African American race because they are given poor legal representation, death penalty with insufficient evidence and longer sentences than any other races that statistics can show.
Based on cultural history throughout the United States dating back to the early 1900’s, the U.S is one of the countries with contentious topics relating to the subject of racial criticism, diligence amongst different societies, and injustice. Along with customs that have been conventional for many years, African Americans have been treated unfairly for decades and in some form of way still manage to get treated unethically despite the years that have gone by and the laws established to provide equal rights for all Americans living in the U.S.
