The Quote ‘’ Your truest friends are the ones who will stand by you in your darkest moments; because they are willing to be brave the shadows with you, and in your greatest moments they’re not afraid to let you shine’’. To me this quote means you know who your true friends are because through the trials tribulations and darkest points they will show you light and be by your side. When greatness strikes they will be there to cheer you on and be happy for your successes. I agree with this quote because a friend is someone who is supposed to be there for you even when everyone else isn’t, someone you tell everything to and trust because friendship is something sacred finding a good genuine friend is hard to fine but once you do the support that was mentioned in the quote is natural. The two parts of literature that connect to the quote would be of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and The Freedom Writers by Erin Gruwell. The literary elements …show more content…
I will be using is characterization and theme. In of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck friendship is the whole backbones of the story. Lennie from of Mice and Men was mentally ill and George took care of him when they had to run from the first town and when he killed Curley’s wife and even though he did have to kill Lennie it didn’t make them have any less of friendship he spared himself the pain of seeing his best friend killed brutally by the men of the ranch. That connects to the quote because George had Lennie’s back in the dark times and good ones. In Freedom writers the class was separate but by the help of their teacher the class became close almost like family.
They began to work together to do good like when the students held a concert to get a guest speaker or when their teacher got another job just to get the students books the students where in a dark place and their teacher showed them the light. Most of the students were in gangs and bad situations but she took them out of that. The quote connects to the story because as it states they will stand by you in your darkest moments and Ms. Gruwell encouraged all of the students in their darkest moments when they were all so against one another and turning their back on school she stood by them and didn’t give up. The quote also states ‘’in your greatest moments they’re not afraid to let you shine’’ and she let them shine by giving them the credit for all the hard work they did and standing up for them against her coworkers and just overall believing in them that’s what connects the story The Freedom Writers to the quote
. In conclusion the quote ‘’ Your truest friends are the ones who will stand by you in your darkest moments, because they are willing to be brave the shadows with you, and in your greatest moments they’re not afraid to let you shine’’ by Nicole Yatsonsky is about friendship and it sheds light on the fact that friendship is about support and happiness and trust and those are the things shown in the books. In each novel the theme was kind of like saving because George saved Lennie from the others and Mrs. Gruwell saved the students from themselves and also what their communities were going to set them up for.
In the thesis the two stories Of Mice and Men and The Joy Luck Club the stories are both positive and negative. The stories are both positive and negative because in Of Mice and Men the two main characters George and Lennie they form a stronger relationship. At the end of the story George has to make a hard decision by killing Lennie to make sure that Curly does not hurt Lennie because of him accidentally killing his wife. George knew if he were to just let Curly get Lennie he would torture him because of what he has done. In the story The Joy Luck Club Jing-Mei Woo and Suyan Woo would be positive because the Mom and daughter both want to get a talent. The daughter also wants to be a prodigy because she wants to make the mom happy.
To begin with, according to Lucius Annaeus Seneca, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood”. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.
In the novel Of Mice and Men and ‘The Scarlet Ibis’, the characters Lennie and Doodle both have their dreams destroyed. Another reason as to why they cannot fulfill their dreams is because they both are handicapped. One point as to why they cannot fulfill their dreams is because they are dead. Lastly Doodle and Lennie were not accepted in normal life. Doodle’s and Lennie’s dreams are destroyed and altered their lives as well as everyone around them.
The novel, set in the 1930s, is a story of friendship of migrant workers George
John Steinbeck, the author of the novel Of Mice and Men uses many stylistic devices and description in chapter one to give the reader a deeper understanding of what may occur throughout the novel. Firstly, the name of the city the two protagonists, Lennie and George, are heading to is called “Soledad,” which means loneliness in Spanish; this is symbolism and foreshadowing because it can mean that as they get closer to the city, their relationship as friends may deteriorate and they may end up alone towards the end. Furthermore, this could also mean that there can be major problems in further chapters because of Lennie’s unpredictable behaviour due to his mental disabilities. In relation to Robert Burns’s poem, “To a Mouse,” the author may be
John Steinbeck's agricultural upbringing in the California area vibrantly shines through in the settings and story lines of the majority of his works. Steinbeck's novel, Of Mice and Men, takes place in the Salinas Valley of California. The drama is centered around two itinerant farm workers, George Milton and Lennie Small, with a dream of someday owning a place of their own. Lennie Small is a simple-minded, slow moving, shapeless hulk with pale eyes whose enormous physical strength often causes him to get into trouble. George Milton on the other hand is small in stature, clever, dark of face and eyes, and acts as Lennie's guardian and calming force.
The quote that inspired John Steinbeck was the best laid schemes often go off track can be seen in the novel of Mice and Men. When Curley's wife met a man in her childhood that offered her to be an actress but the chance went away and she later died. Then Curley wanted to be a professional boxer but the dream never happened and he became a farmer then got his hand broken for trying to be tough. George and Lennie were going to buy a farm to live off the fat of the land then Lennie had to get in trouble and George had to give up the dream and kill Lennie for what he had done.
There is only one way an author can get their readers to cry, laugh, and love or just enjoy their master pieces. That one way is through the uses of literary devices such as similes, metaphors and personification. These are the small things that brings the author`s thoughts and ideas alive. The author`s ability to use literary devices through the book helps in direct characterization and lets readers get a better understanding of Lennie and George, the two main characters Of Mice and Men. It also helps in keeping readers thinking on their feet and constantly questioning George and Lennie`s next move while in Salinas, California. John Steinbeck, in his novel Of Mice and Men, makes use of similes and foreshadowing to keep readers in touch with the characters and at the edge of their seats throughout the story.

What is your definition of a true friend? Well, to me, a true friend is someone who understands you, accepts you for who you are, and is willing to do anything for you. While reading John Steinbeck’s classic, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie maintain a true friendship despite all the ups and downs they encounter. After Lennie Small, a man as gigantic as a mammoth with a pea-sized brain is caught touching a girl’s dress in the town of Weed, he and his best friend, an average migrant worker, George Milton, travel a strenuous journey to the town of Soledad and start working on a ranch. The young men come to realize that they have a true, brotherly bond and nothing can separate them. Even though the book has its rough spots, Steinbeck portrays the true bond of friendship that even people as close as siblings have. Throughout the story, George
The 2007 movie Freedom Writers gives a voice of hope and peace in a fragile environment where hate and sorrow battle in the life of urban teenagers. The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is distinctly displayed through the characters of Erin, Erin’s pupils, opposing teachers, Scott and numerous other characters in the film. It is also shown and developed through the usage of specific dialogue, environment, symbolism, and other film techniques.
...n people have nothing. If people had more compassion for others the United States would not have all the problems that it does today. Mrs. Erin Gruwell had compassion for the students; when they saw how much she cared they changed their perspectives on life. Against all odds toward against Mrs. Erin Gruwell, she had the power of human will to teach the student. The writer introduced several scenarios on how young innocent children were influenced by family and friends of the same racial background to create hatred and gang’s violence against other races. Five messages in Freedom Writer are: Non judgmental, Racism, having compassion, the power of the human will, and education. Being non judgmental, having compassion and having human will helped Mrs. Erin Gruwell educate the children at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School. Segregated by race, united with education.
