Community Service Requirements

The discussion of making community service part of graduation requirements actually sounds like a good idea. There are many different types of community service and I think everyone should need to be involved in some sort just to see what it is like. There are many different qualities that community service can teach. Especially for students who are preparing to graduate and move out into the real world, it would be nice if they could get a taste of what actually goes on in the real world. Community service sounds like something you have to do if you get in trouble, but some people who do it actually really enjoy it. Community service can be used as a punishment, but it should not always be thought of that way. It really shouldn't be a burden to help out your own community once in awhile. If community service was apart of our graduation requirements, I would choose to help out at the humane society, something that has to do with sports medicine, and probably do something with the city or recreational crew. The reason I would choose to help at the Humane Society is because I love taking care of animals and playing with them and just being around them. The rec crew does a lot of work at the parks around the community: mowing lawns, taking care of the land, keeping the restrooms clean, and just taking care of the parks in general. This also includes the baseball fields, keeping the fields in good shape, etc. This type of work would teach responsibility, diligence and precision. You would have to be a hard worker because it is an outdoor job usually and starts early in the morning. You would really have to have some self discipline to do this every day, and you would need to be willing to work
