Management styles often change when new managers become experienced managers. How a person chooses to use their experience often depends on the positions that they chose to take on. The average younger baby boomer has held 11 jobs by the time they had turned 44 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010). These changes will often force a person to be different type of manager from when they first started. Pete Torrez (Torrez) has had multiple jobs that have led to a varied career path. He has had to adapt to make sure the communication techniques he is using are appropriate for the audience that he is addressing. The communication styles have been developed because of the career choices he has made and the people that he has associated with in the workplace. The communication style has used and is using is because of the positions he has held. Nonverbal and written communications are an important piece to how he has been able to continue growth in all his positions and career path. Influence of technology has had a great impact on how he has had to communicate with peers and employees, and as a Baby Boomer there have also been challenges. As a teacher in junior high education and manager in retail, the power of persuasion and conflict resolution has been used consistently. Although a strong communicator in many ways, there are recommendations that could help him progress and be a strong communicator. Career Path Torrez started his career as a junior high math teacher. He received his bachelor’s degree in education and was able to quickly find a position that he found fulfilling. The communication style he was using was indicative of a school setting. He communicated with students on a professional level and learned to adapt ... ... middle of paper ... ...ortance of Writing Well. Journal of Environmental Health, 63(7), 74. All in all, the book Age of Propaganda: The Use and Abuse of Persuasion by Partkanis and Aronson points out the flaws in the advertising and marketing methods. The purpose of the four stratagems in marketing is to most effectively catch consumers’ attention and get them to buy their product. The strategies are pre-persuasion, source credibility, message and emotion. The authors point out that the race of corporations to beat one another to consumers has created a world of advertising that is cluttered with tactics that take away the truth of the product. If this trend continues, and these stratagems continue to be installed, our world will be littered with over-the-top and pointless campaigns.

When I learned that I had to write this research paper, instead of procrastinating, I convinced myself to JUST DO IT. This phrase also happens to be one of the signature phrases of the leading athletic apparel company, Nike. The JUST DO IT campaign has been very successful for Nike, but it is not he sole reason for their success. Nike’s campaign has definitely persuaded me to go out and buy a few Nike products. So what exactly does Nike’s persuasive campaign consist of? This paper will discuss all aspects of Nike’s persuasive campaign. Some of the campaign’s strategies, goals, and techniques will be revealed. Some persuasive theories that can be applied to the Nike advertising campaign will be identified and explained. After discussing these theories, the specific arguments of the campaign will be validated. Overall, the entire campaign will be analyzed and it will be determined whether the campaign is a success or a failure.
Since the development of civilization, women have always been viewed as subordinate to men in all aspects of life. This is especially true in regards to the communication styles of both sexes. The expository text “ His Politeness is Her Powerlessness” by Deborah Tannen and Charlotte Bronte’s gothic novel, Jane Eyre, demonstrates a shocking similarity between the 1820s and the 21st century in regards to men’s view point on women’s style of communication. According to the texts, women will always be viewed as the inferior sex regardless of their communication style.
As these Echo Boomers accumulate more time in the workplace, other generations are finding them to be far more thoughtful, complex and admirable based on real world experiences rather than media anecdotes intent on raising eyebrows and ratings. Based on the profound similarities that are surfacing about Millennials, their world view also appears similar to their parents as expressed in the Gestalt Prayer created in 1969 by Fritz Perls - Father of Gestalt - embraced by many of the Woodstock generation framed around the philosophy, which I (as a proud Boomer) have recently rediscovered:
In “The Art of Rhetoric,” James Herrick describes rhetoric as “the study of persuasion” (2). Even Lloyd F. Bitzer, in his essay, “The Rhetorical Situation,” states, “rhetoric is always persuasive” (1). So who better to be using persuasion techniques than businessmen trying to sell a product? Those working behind the scenes in the world of marketing and advertisement are constantly hunting for unique ways to persuade people to spend money and use their product.

Nevertheless, the millennials are a commendable generation because we can multitask, see the value in a higher education, and are self-improving. Being able to continuously perform more than one thing at a time has helped accomplish tasks in a timely manner. It’s a great attribute, considering older generations think we are unable to effectively complete a task that was given to us.

Understanding communication is much more complex than just listening to someone talk. It is similar and unique all at the same time. People communicate with not only their words but also with their body and the tone of their voice. Communication is heard or understood through personal filters and beliefs. In order to understand communication you must first learn to understanding your own and others methods of communication, what makes communicating effective and ineffective, and then apply personal experiences to build a deeper level of knowledge.
There are many different ways in which I could improve my communication style. Although I could list a few, the main one that I believe would improve my overall communication with others, is both confidence, and clarity. In all aspects of my life, I find myself being shyer than others. This shows most prominently when I communicate with my peers, and find myself not expressing my opinion as strongly as I had intended on doing. When I think of communication, the first thing that comes to mind is camp. While being a councillor for a group of kids, you must be able to communicate with the campers, as well as other staff, in order to ensure safety for everyone throughout each day. I believe if I was more confident, and clear with my expectations
When it came to this assignment and trying to figure out my communication style I asked some of the people I came to contact with in a daily bases; my girlfriend, my coworker, and my best friend.
In today’s competitive world, the survival of any company depends on how it is perceived by key stakeholders such as customers, consumers, employees, shareholders, investors, and the general community in which the company operates (Cornelissen, 2014). One of the key objectives of corporate communication is to protect the reputation of the company. It is important for the senior managers to understand communication related problems in the company and devise appropriate plans of dealing with them (Cornelissen, 2014).
