Service to me means making a difference, creating meaningful moments, meeting new people and receiving a special feeling after. Service are actions done with or on behalf of others without any material or financial compensation. It means giving back to one’s school, classmates, and community enthusiastically; where one’s assistance is dependable as well as organized. Service is about working well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities. Service is only for those who are ready to represent the class or school in the inter-class and inter-scholastic competition, mentor persons in the community or students at other schools, or participates in some activity outside of school (volunteer services for the elderly, disadvantaged or poor). Service Corps is a wonderful opportunity that I could not afford to pass up as I only wish to improve myself. I want to build my character, leadership skills and continue my service to my community. I need to be put to the test and learn how to work through issues I may confront. As a future accountant, I need to prove to myself that I have what it takes to be prepared for work in a fast paced environment. One day I want to be able to successfully hold positions or offices of responsibility. To be able to conduct business effectively and efficiently, and demonstrate reliability and dependability. Over the years I have grown extremely passionate about my career choice and so becoming a well-rounded individual before entering the field is a huge responsibility for me. Service; there are many different things that come into mind when you think of the term service. I use to think of the term as, in something needs to be serviced, something needs to be done or helped. PSL has changed my view on the term service and that their are many different things about service, its not just helping. Throughout my service experiences and resources I have learned its not about helping at all. Naomi Remen, author of In the Service of Life states “serving is different from helping. Helping is based on inequality; it is not a relationship between equals.” Serving is all about having that connection with someone and going in with an open mindset.
After a period of self-reflection and deep thought, I have concluded a multitude of reasons why I wish to enroll in the Army ROTC Program. The main reason I am interested in enrolling is the service and commitment I can perform to the nation and to others. As a leader in my community, committing yourself for others is the most important factor of leadership. Although there is the option to enlist, I feel that training and learning to become an officer would be a more effective path. Currently, I hold many leadership positions and strive for academic success. Therefore, it would be beneficial for someone of my aptitude to make the investment to become an officer in the United States Army. I also have desire to enroll in the Army ROTC
Attending a service academy is the ultimate beginning to my future plans of serving my country. I am ready for the challenges that academy and military life has to offer. I desire to be challenged mentally, morally and physically. In addition, I strive to uphold the highest ideals of honor, determination and selfless service. I’m intimidated by the fear of being average; in other words I’m never content with myself because there is always room to grow. I’m a motivated individual who is constantly on the pursuit to better myself both mentally and physically. My thirst for knowledge has led me to a service academy. The certain prestige that comes with attending a service academy is a small achievement compared to the sacrifice that it takes to get there.
As part of the UCF Lead slogan, “to serve” the important part of leadership is to serve others. As part of my service hours, I decided to work in Youth Advocacy and Children Services, environmental issues, and homelessness and hunger. In most of these situations, I was a servant leader as “a leader” or I worked with “an organization that seeks to first to serve others” (Kline 99). All of these causes are meant to benefit others, as is the definition of volunteering. By volunteering I am able to grow as a servant leader by performing servant- leader tasks and work with organizations that are servant- leader driven. With my service hours I was able to work in areas and get involved in projects that I haven’t had much experience in before. These hours gave me the opportunity to meet people that I wouldn’t have met before and work with some great organizations that I was unaware of before.

As this will be my first time staffing at encampment, I want to be a flight sergeant for ILWG 2016 spring encampment. Since encampment is hectic (sentence to describe how you use everything you learn from your cap career at encampment) I’m anticipating to experience staffing at encampment. However, I’m hoping to gain more leadership skills, time management, critical thinking, and how to lead in stressful situations. I want to be able to expand my knowledge to help the cadets in my squadron.
There are always some activities for the betterment of a community. If we get involved ourselves in those, we will certainly have some useful experiences in our life too. Service Learning is one of those activities, and it is primarily a service of a community with the application of the knowledge and guidance obtained in the college. Moreover, Service Learning is a way for a student to practice the education that he learns from the college, which in result strengthens the student academically. As a result, A student can be aware of the social issues through Service Learning, and he can apply his ideas and knowledge to come up with a solution. Similarly, Service learning also provides a source of communicating with the professional of the community, which can be helpful for a student regarding the education and employment. A sort of culmination to my realizations through this service learning experience happened at the Fools’ annual Oscard’s Feast. This event was very eye-opening and stunning to me. As I wrap up my Accounting program, I am starting to explore various options for what I want to do post-undergrad; I believe that the Peace Corps is an invaluable opportunity, and I am resubmitting my application because I am now able to leave earlier than previously thought.

It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mentally, a person who does community service is able to change their perspective of the world and appreciate the things they have. Physically, it can help a person be more motivated and explore what is going on in their community. If we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. When we sacrifice our time to help someone in need, whether it is a great or small need, we become a part of their life and can help alleviate heavy burdens. Making time to help people in need creates opportunities for us to develop new and lasting relationships. Serving our fellowmen allows the best in each of us to shine through and we can become examples to our children.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
“Prayer in action is love and love in action is service.” –Mother Teresa. To me, service is an obvious outlet for love. I went into my CSP excited and ready to serve, only to be majorly disappointed. Over the summer, I volunteered at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in the Mother/Baby Unit because last year someone in my class did and they were able to hold the babies, as well as running errands for nurses, new moms, etc. This sounded like the dream service project to me, but the week before I started, the volunteer department completely changed. So, my service at OPRMC instead consisted of sitting at the desk in the waiting room, printing out nametags for visiting friends and family, controlling the security door, keeping the waiting room orderly, and intermittently running errands for the staff.
