The modern West is known for providing the world with a different culture of arts, innovation, and government. In my view, the modern West possessed a theme of revolution that outlines the main story line for Western Civilization. Thanks to the industrial revolution, Western Civilization provided people with a plethora of opportunities thanks to the revolution of math, science, and technology. These revolutions provided communities with unprecedented and undreamt of capabilities and opportunities. The industrial revolution offered means, tools and apparatuses that were never available before, and reduced distances, bringing remote locations closer while saving time, thanks to modern means of transportation which are permanently improved. Among the most important features of Western civilization is the fact that it is a constantly evolving civilization, going from one stage to another. Under these conditions, man enjoys his dignity and feels liberated from fear and humiliation becoming thereby productive and useful for his fellow These are the positive aspects of Western civilization, all of them have to do with the means, tools and machines used by man. They are in fact double-edged tools which can be used either for good or evil. Even the expression "the planetary village" which was initially coined to render the reduction of distances is not a pure blessing, it may well generate a great deal of evil. Western civilization is in fact a civilization of means and capabilities not a civilization pursuing sublime objectives and finalities. There is no doubt that Western civilization has caused a unique industrial revolution in life of the world, which has become a science and technology revolution. Transformation of nature on the planet has entered a new stage, which is characterized by avalanche unpredictable
The western worldview grew out of ideas that were brought about by the Black Death, the humanist movement, and religious reform. The Black Death killed most of Europe’s population, opening spots for jobs and spots to move in the feudal system. This caused people to think out of the box, it also helped people see that everyone had something in common king or serf. The humanist movement also had a key role that helped people see the bigger picture. Last but no least the religious reform also played a key role. After new ideas came from the humanisms people questioned things they hadn’t before. These are the three main topics for the growth of the western worldview.
Nations and people founded by Europeans and other countries with western ideals have be very critical of their view of civilization. When one thinks of western ideas and the civilization we think of an end to savagery, progress and prosperity. These same ideas were the ideas that many of European countries and the United states rooted into its citizens. Industrialization was at the heart of creating a more civilized world and western ideas.
The significance of knowing how western civilization developed is an important key to understanding how many elements from this time has impacted how we live today. The history of western civilization, as well as any other area of history, serves as lessons. We learn from past situations by analyzing their success and failures to promote success in the future. Because history is so important for us to understand, many things we commonly do and hear actually have a strong correlation with the past, even if we don’t always realize it. An example of this is the saying, “an eye for eye,” which relates to “The Code of Hammurabi” written by King Hammurabi in the early Eighteenth Century B.C.E. This saying has been around for centuries and its purpose
By observing the recurring trends throughout history, an individual can conclude that the modern world has evolved through a series of revolutionary eras. Revolutions have occurred since the beginning of mankind and continue to progress into the future. Ranging from a sharp change in political organization or structure, to social divisions within society, all the way to forward-thinking innovations, revolutions have impacted the course of history in numerous ways. Although many revolutions are titled with a specific name to identify the precise location or particular group of people involved, such as the American Revolution or the French Revolution, there are many occurrences in which a revolution is simply identified with a categorization term. However, among all the revolutions that have occurred in known history, there is a specific revolutionary period that has aided in the progress of humanity in addition to establishing the early concepts that shape our modern world. Originating in Great Britain, the Industrial Revolution has transformed the lifestyles of people around the world. However, the progressive transformation introduced a series of outcomes contrary to the prior regime. The Industrial Revolution triggered the growth of Great Britain’s economy, reset the social class divisions, and led to the formation of political reformation.
The Industrial Revolution was the transition of labor intensive production methods to machine production methods. This Revolution began in England in the 18th century and ended in the 19th century. The introduction of the Industrial Revolution influenced the daily life of an individual and increased the standard of living for nations worldwide participating in this revolution. Without the Industrial Revolution, refined inventions of today would not have been invented thus creating a slower and less effective method of producing goods and services in large quantities. The Industrial Revolution is the most important Revolution to occur in man’s existence on earth, and has opened door to assist man in understanding and conquering great obstacles in this environment.
The Industrial revolution was a turning point for the earth and humans, every aspect of human’s life and life styles were changed dramatically. Western culture and policies have shaped the modern world, especially the Middle East, in many ways. Since the sixteenth century, the nations of Western civilization have been the driving wheels of modernization. Globalization is simply the spread of modern institutions and ideas from one high power to the wider world. Technological innovation and economic growth along with such concepts as democracy, individualism, and the rule of law administered by an impartial judiciary, set Western societies above and beyond any possible rival. Other cultures looked to the West as a model, a threat, or some combination of both. One country that was most successful in their confrontations with Western states was Japan, who incorporated Western technologies and institutional arrangements into their own systems. This idea of mimicking the Western system can be used by other regions, such as the Middle East, to provide a foundation of government.
The Industrial Revolution was a time of great change and increased efficiency. No more would be goods be produced by sole means of farming and agriculture, but now by the use of machinery and factories. Technology was beginning to increase along with the food supply as well as the population. However, this increase in population would greatly impact the social aspect of that time. Urbanization was becoming much more widespread. Cities were becoming overwhelmingly crowded and there was an increase in disease as well as harsh child labor. Although child labor would be reduced somewhat due to unions, the Industrial Revolution still contained both it’s positive and negative results.
...ter positioned to Westernize than others, and the Confucian and Islamic groups are among those that are less likely to embrace Western culture. Essentially, these groups have established a connection with each other, constructing a significant challenge to Western interests through their alliance and increased weaponization. As the West, de-weaponizes, this civilization rallying may flare up in some of the most intense conflict to come.
The industrial revolution was marked by a shift of power. The power source before the revolution was human power. Human and animal muscle was the driving force behind all forms of production. At first, machinery saw an increase in manual labor in the form of railway production and canal excavations. Ultimately, the introduction of machinery resulted in a decline in subjugated men and instead man’s intellectual capacity was being utilized.
The Western culture has evolved over a span of several years with various civilizations specializing in specific aspects of life or nature. In essence, Western civilization dates back to the BCE periods when Ancient Greece, Mesopotamia, and Ancient Rome reigned. Each of the Western civilizations came with a clear lineage that portrayed such attributes as property rights, free market economy, competition, personal freedoms, and innovation (Perry, 2013). Besides, the western civilizations came at different periods with some of the attributes evolving or remaining unchanged throughout the lineage. However, the non-western civilizations contributed towards such attributes to a given extent, primarily because of the interactions among
The exchange of vast information and the borrowing of technological advancements have impacted both the Eastern and Western cultures. For example, the use of machines in the workplace to produce more rapidly and the idea of laborers instead of slaves. Furthermore, the desire of gold bullion greatly caused both civilizations to race for imperialism and to expand their borderlines into Africa. To add, social and political factors from the Western culture, such as the enlightenment allowed for a massive transformation of worldwide power. Both civilizations continue relentlessly for authority and influence over each other in the modern
Life was drastically changed during the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a period of time where machinery was used for manufacturing massive production of goods that began in England in the middle 1700s. This revolution was significant because machinery now changed the way nations produced and distributed goods; therefore, it increased the availability and affordability of goods for all people. To understand the Industrialization Revolution, it is necessary to take a closer look at the Pre-Industrialization. During the Pre-Industrialization, most people belonged to either high or low-class not middle class, and many were farmers who lived in the countryside. Also, goods were made by hand thus the products were not readily affordable or available. However, agricultural revolution, population growth, natural resources, factors of production, inventions and transportation all contributed to the growth of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution resulted in positive and negative changes that paved the way for the working condition and wages, living condition and reform of social class.
The modern world is extremely reliant on technology, whether it has to deal with smart phones, cars, or medicine. Without the Industrial Revolution, the present day would not be the same. The Industrial Revolution was a blessing for the middle class because production, healthcare, and transportation improved. Industrialization improved the lives for all groups of people in Europe because of the advancement of technology. Lifestyles began to improve due in part to the introduction of efficient machines rather than hand production. It was necessary for industrialization to occur in order for the large population to sustain.
