Recommended: Events leading up to civil war

Origin of the Civil War Counting back to the 1800s, the tragedy of the Civil War took place. It began on April 12, 1861 till May 9, 1865, locating in multiple different states in the U.S.. This war started between the United States of America and the Confederates States of America. Some say it started because of uncompromising differences with the free and slave states over the power of the national government to end slavery in territories that have not become states yet. Although, the issue included slavery in the Civil War, politics, economics, and morality essentially caused of the Civil War, as evidenced by political theorist, John C. Calhoun. John Brown’s view on slavery, as well as Charles Pinckney’s view on slavery. One of the causes …show more content…

In the picture, taking place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, John Brown illustrates his bravery for helping the slaves, which cost his life facing morality. Due to, Brown’s action in the image, it exhibits him being lead to his execution, although with his supporters who appreciate him on his side for when he pushed the black people away so they would not interfere (Document D). In other words, John Brown thought loud and clear of the wrong and right things in life as he risks his own through the process. In 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe, wrote a letter to Prince Albert. Stowe describes her sympathy of England and America in oppressed race as both countries are unjust. Harriet Beecher Stowe states, “ (may America yet emulate her example!)” (Document E). This means that America needs to do the same thing Harriet Beecher did, so there will be no more race problems, which generalized morality. Moving forward, in the lecture titled, “Courage” Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke on November 8, 1859 in Boston. Transcendentalist, Emerson, depicts John Brown as a caring and brave person. Ralph Waldo Emerson notes, “[John Brown is] that new saint, than whom none purer or more brave was ever led by love of men into conflict and death” (Document K). Consequently, Emerson looks up to John Brown who has tried to end slavery, but unfortunately passed. Now, Ralph Waldo Emerson views slavery as a moral because of the Civil War. In the novel titled, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the book describes anti-slavery by Harriet Beecher Stowe. According to Stowe, she writes this piece of literature on the popularity of Uncle Tom’s Cabin selling 270,000 volumes (Document F). Hence, Harriet Beecher Stowe perceives slavery morally out of sympathy so more people can understand her better.
