One of the major problems in the Middle East is child related. To be specific, child soldiers. It is estimated that there are over 38,000 kids who are forced into being child soldiers (Storr). Because child soldiers can’t prevent their horrific fate, they deserve to be granted amnesty by the United Nations. One main reason why they should be given amnesty is because they are forced and drugged into becoming killers. Children at such a young age don't have the mental ability to think long term of their actions, especially when they are being forced or drugged to. Some may argue that if child criminals get punished for their actions then child soldiers should too, but that is just not the case. The difference being child criminals choose to
As an example, in the article Child Soldiers it states “ More often than not, children have no say in whether they enlist or not and once recruited the children have become brainwashed through the use of drugs and alcohol” (Child Soldiers) As you can see, this shows how children have no control if they kill or not from either being threatened with death or being drugged. In addition, in the article The Child Soldier on Trial at Guantanamo it talks about how a child soldier got interrogated by guards where they told him he would be gang-raped and murdered if he didn’t obey (Prasow). This is another example of how these kids have to choose between life and death at such a young age. This is just one main reason why these kids deserve
Having them prosecuted and go through detention has been proven to be unsuccessful as said in the article Ex-Child-Soldier (Barnett). All it does is puts them in jail and makes them more angry and aggressive, but does not fix the deep problem. Instead, child soldiers should be sent to a rehabilitation center. To demonstrate in the articles Child Soldiers and Ex-Child- Soldier they both explain how rehabilitation programs are comprehensive, successful, and help the people reconnect to who they were (Barnett). Thus, rehabilitation centers are way more effective in helping to fix the problem, not cover it up. As you can see, child soldiers deserve to have a second chance so they can go to these rehabilitation centers and gain the ability to have a new
Many kids are involved around the world in violent wars as child soldiers. These children who were forced into being soldiers had no other choice but to face their own death and therefore should be granted amnesty. This is because the great majority of the kids were forced into being war fighters. Even then, some people think that just because they’re kids doesn’t change the fact that they have performed horrible acts, and that they should be punished for their actions. Also, these kids were forced to take drugs and drink alcohol which influenced bad decisions and made them less thoughtful about the harm they were doing. So, child soldiers should get another chance and be granted amnesty after proven worthy.
Children have been used as soldiers in many events, however two that stand out are the use of child soldiers in the Sierra Leone civil war and the drug cartels in Mexico. Most people agree that forcing children to be soldiers is wrong and not humane. The people that make them soldiers transform them into belligerent beings by force. Child soldiers of drug cartels and the armies of Sierra Leone were threatened with their lives if they didn’t become soldiers. The lives of these child soldiers are lives that nobody should live. Situations in both countries are horrible because of the high number of youngsters that are forced to take part in drug use and are transformed into extremely belligerent and inhumane people; in addition they are deprived
Most of these kids had the choice to be killed or become a child soldier. All the soldiers chose the wrong choice, a choice that would make them a criminal. In the article, Armed and Underage it states, 8,000 children are fighting in armed rebel groups battling the U.S. government. The worst part of this is, many children volunteer to become soldiers. If a child volunteers are held accountable for the acts committed, stated in child soldiers,
Child soldier is a worldwide issue, but it became most critical in the Africa. Child soldiers are any children under the age of 18 who are recruited by some rebel groups and used as fighters, cooks, messengers, human shields and suicide bombers, some of them even under the aged 10 when they are forced to serve. Physically vulnerable and easily intimidated, children typically make obedient soldiers. Most of them are abducted or recruited by force, and often compelled to follow orders under threat of death. As society breaks down during conflict, leaving children no access to school, driving them from their homes, or separating them from family members, many children feel that rebel groups become their best chance for survival. Others seek escape from poverty or join military forces to avenge family members who have been killed by the war. Sometimes they even forced to commit atrocities against their own family (britjob p 4 ). The horrible and tragic fate of many unfortunate children is set on path of war murders and suffering, more nations should help to prevent these tragedies and to help stop the suffering of these poor, unfortunate an innocent children.
Although not everyone knows it, there is a huge tragedy that is, and has been, going on even in this exact moment. That tragedy is children being taken out of their ordinary lives, whether by force or not, away from their families and into battle. No matter how much these children went through in the wars, the question still remains: once the war is over, should they be granted amnesty, or be prosecuted? The answer to this comes from thorough research. Child soldiers should be granted amnesty because they are unaware of what they are doing, they need help rather than prosecution, and many are forced to fight.
Though the use of child soldiers is a global concern, the highest numbers have been reported mainly in Africa and Asi...
These are the words of a 15-year-old girl in Uganda. Like her, there are an estimated 300,000 children under the age of eighteen who are serving as child soldiers in about thirty-six conflict zones (Shaikh). Life on the front lines often brings children face to face with the horrors of war. Too many children have personally experienced or witnessed physical violence, including executions, death squad killings, disappearances, torture, arrest, sexual abuse, bombings, forced displacement, destruction of home, and massacres. Over the past ten years, more than two million children have been killed, five million disabled, twelve million left homeless, one million orphaned or separated from their parents, and ten million psychologically traumatized (Unicef, “Children in War”). They have been robbed of their childhood and forced to become part of unwanted conflicts. In African countries, such as Chad, this problem is increasingly becoming a global issue that needs to be solved immediately. However, there are other countries, such as Sierra Leone, where the problem has been effectively resolved. Although the use of child soldiers will never completely diminish, it has been proven in Sierra Leone that Unicef's disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program will lessen the amount of child soldiers in Chad and prevent their use in the future.
One reason why child soldiers should not be given amnesty is they do violent crimes. A quote from (Aubert) says “When you kill for the first time you change”. If these kinds of people are on the streets, they will kill people on the regular because they have been doing that their whole life ever since a kid.. They are scarred from these types of things. That's one reason why they should not be given
Child soldiers do not deserve amnesty because determining which deserve it requires too many resources, many of the soldiers volunteered, and they could be dangers to society. The testing needed to determine which child soldiers deserve amnesty quires a large sum of money. This money would have to be taken from the tax money of the housing country, which will cause the tax rates to increase. Some people believe the child soldiers deserve amnesty. The people think this because some of the children were kidnapped and forced into fighting, while also being under the influence of drugs. Many of the child soldiers volunteered to fight and kill others. They believed that volunteering to fight would be patriotic and they wanted to take revenge on America. Child soldiers should not be provided amnesty because it demands too many resources, many of the soldiers volunteered, and the children could be dangers to society.
In conclusion child soldiers should be given amnesty because they are children that are at least 3 to 14 years old that are drugged and beaten to kill. People who were child soldier like Ishmael Beah have horrible memories of the time when he was a soldier and that was a scary thing to him. Right now to this day children are still being used for warfare and even suicide
Have you ever seen something or someone that escaped justice and hundreds of child soldier are getting out of jail because of their age. When they have killed many innocent kids nand people. People can say what they want about child soldiers, but they have never seen what they can do first hand. in sierra leone a man and his team were fired upon by two child soldiers. They ended up killing his best friend and coworker.
But without a shadow of a doubt the child soldiers are designed to only one thing, kill. First, most child soldiers are told to kill their parents. Their commander may tell them to do that in order to show loyalty to the military gang they support. Which is not fair to the children.
Imagine that you are living in a world where murders don't have to go to jail they they can just go home then go out and kill the next day.Well that is what we are doing when we let our child murders get away. I strongly believe that child soldiers are perpetrators for 3 simple reasons. One reason being that it is no different if it is in war time or not. I also think this because child soldiers have denied getting help. My third reason is that kid volunteer to be in the war and they don't have paperwork to track if they did or not.
Dear (to be determined) Child soldiers are fighting everywhere across the world as we speak, and I am writing to you, the International Criminal Court, to share my opinion on why child soldiers should be granted amnesty. While i respect your opinion on why they should be prosecuted, remember that they are still only kids. Some children like Ishmael Beah of Sierra Leone, Africa (who is not a child now, he is 37) who was 12 when he was forced to become a child soldier.
Child soldiers is a big problem in the world, and the question is that if they should be given amnesty? Child soldiers are normal children from the start, they play and do what children do, but what happens is that they are abducted or they join a rebel group or a army because they need food because their families were killed and they have nowhere else to go, or they were abducted. Child soldiers SHOULD be given amnesty because they have nowhere else to go, they don’t know what there doing, and they can’t do anything about it. A child soldier will join the army/rebel group because they have nowhere else to go because they are starving because their families were most likely killed.
