When I first read this topic, the word that jumped out at me was “change”. It reminded me that nothing stands still. We are all constantly moving forward, transforming, evolving and changing. We would not be able to advance if we just kept still, not wanting to move, we would get left behind. Time does not wait for anyone, the old dies and is replaced with the young and new. A bud grows into a flower and then into a fruit, a young girl changes into a woman. Morning changes to noon, and then into night and the whole cycle starts again which makes me think that no change is permanent. Change is subject to change.

Social change is the transformation of social institutions over time. It is the changes that occur in society and therefore social relationships. There are some characteristics of social change: Social change is social as it includes the way people interact with one another (social relationships). Social change happens all the time and is universal, which means that change happens in all societies, all the time. No society remains the same. Social change is also continuous, society is forever changing. Some changes are more important than others. Climates change, soil erodes, lakes and rivers dry up. Deforestation results in land erosion and reduces rainfall. Natural disasters cause a sudden and huge change. Isolation and contact is another force. Societies that are in contact with other societies are more likely to change more rapidly. Isolated societies are more stable and resistant to change. Social structure also plays a role in change. A tightly structured society where every person's roles, duties, privileges and obligations are precisely and rigidly defined is less given to changes than a more loosely structured society where roles, lines of authority, privileges and obligations are more open to individual
