Thank you for the selection me, Journee Coleman, as a participant for the Duke TIP Field Studies program conjointly giving me the opportunity to introduce yours truly. I’m currently a sophomore at Central High School ranking within the top ten percent of my class with a 4.2 GPA. I feel as if I have every qualification it would take to be a successful participant in a program like this. I would be pleased to offer my positive attributes such as creativity, dedication, a strong mindset, willingness to learn and be part of a team, plus enthusiasm to this specific program. I often find myself making a way out of no way, although sometimes it can take a lengthy amount of time along with abundant amounts of strategizing and creativity. I spend most of my hours being involved with my school; from regular school hours, staying after school typically four if not five days a week, to volunteering my weekends to take part in any activities possible. Cheering would be one of the things that require a mass amount of my time, while every minute of it is enjoyable! Being part of a team is paramount to me, not only does it give me a chance to develop leadership skills, but in addition, work cooperatively with many different personalities. During the time of being a team member of numerous extracurricular activities, i.e., Central’s Kindness Club, Ruritan program , First League Robotics, Mentoring, Debate team, managing our softball team, marching/ pep band, and track, I still manage to be dedicated academically which gave me the chance to be part of the National Honor Society, Student Council Association, also the Model General …show more content…
However, despite everything that I'm involved in, I manage to make time to keep up with my responsibilities, for example, practicing my flute in spare time, to pass an exam, or reading Kafka’s, The Metamorphosis, as a homework assignment. Even though all this seeming tedious, I make it work, as a result it's always a great payoff, which is why I'm so dedicated to anything I’m involved in. I intend to make my high school years count, for these few years to be the bricks that builds a strong foundation for a great future for myself and those that surround! My creativity that I offer, allows me to choose a different road from the one that's paved by the many people that previously walked upon it. The strong mindset I have, continually helped me along my journey. Sometimes when situations go for the worst, I just remember that the opportunities to come at the end is always better than the struggle to achieve it. Judi Wineland 's attitude prior to and while she is raising her two daughters has an impact on OAT. Along with Wineland 's attitude the Controller Gary Balfour 's attitude impacts the Control and Accounting side of OAT. Attitude is defined by three components, Affective, Behavioral and Cognitive. The Affective component refers to the person 's feelings and emotions towards a specific topic. The Behavioral refers to a person 's behaves based on their attitude. Cognitive refers to the a person 's belief and knowledge on a certain topic. In this case Judi Wineland deals with balancing her family life and her corporate life seeing as she holds a time and effort intensive position for both. On the other hand Gary Balfour struggles with everyday check ins from Judi on whether or not his supposedly OAT tailored accounting system is fully functional due to bugs still currently on the system.
On August 17th, 2014, the body of a fifteen-year-old female was found wrapped in a duvet weighed down by rocks in the Red River. The body was later identified as Miss Tina Fontaine, who is from Sagkeeng First Nation. This disturbing story was covered by CBC in an article titled “Tina Fontaine, 15, found in a bag in Red River” and underneath the title is a photo of Alexander Dock on Winnipeg’s Red River. Spread on the dock is small memorial towards the deceased aboriginal. The article then continues to explain that under the circumstances her body was found in, the police are treating the case as a homicide. In the article, Miss Fontaine is described as “petite little thing” who weighs 100 pounds and that she had only been in the Winnipeg
People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I am today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Within the halls of Natural and Environmental Sciences building on Colorado State University’s campus, Taryn Finnessey lectured on how Coloradans should address the potential issues that will arise as a result of climate change. Finnessey works as a Climate Change Risk Management Specialist for the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and the seminar was sponsored by CSU’s National Resource Ecology Laboratory and the North Central Climate Science Center.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
Life has so many amazing things to offer. I tried hard to get where I am at in life. I wanted to give up so many times but why give up when want you’re working for is right at your fingertips. I did extra classes so that I could graduate a year early in high school; it was hard, I wanted to give up so I started d to fail paper. My mom stepped in and told me it’s my education I can do what I want. She said, you are better than a quitter Stormmie, if you want something go for it no matter how hard life gets. All because of my mother showed me she believed that I could keep going, I didn’t give up. I achieved way more than I ever imaged I would in high school. I graduated a year early and got valedictorian in my graduating class. This helps
School, from kindergarten to college, is intended to challenge a student’s natural ability while developing practical skills and knowledge. I have always excelled as a student. In high school, I completed 10 Advanced Placement courses. I then entered college and finished my degree in 3 years while also completing multiple internships. I could have easily coasted through high school, taken my time in college, and landed an unassuming job in a cubicle. Instead, I chose to embrace the true intent of school, challenging myself to the extents of my own natural ability. I did this not because it was easy, but because it was right.
When I was little I loved Dexter’s laboratory and I swore I was going to be a scientist, I loved movies and swore I was going to be an actress, I played basketball and swore I’d be in the WNBA someday getting buckets and hearing wild fans cheer my name. I had a lot of goals when I was little but when I got to high school I realized what I wanted to do with my life. Reading was always a hobby of mine, but in high school I finally took up writing—poetry at first, as an outlet for my teen angst, and then I realized that through writing I could become anything I want. I could become a scientist, an actress, an athlete, anything I wanted to be— all I had to do was think of a story and then write it. I feel in love with the fact that I could create worlds and have adventures just by thinking it up and writing it down.
My life has been full of so many events. I’ve lived through many hard times combatting my anxiety and depression, while having family problems, and trouble with many other areas in my life. School was a daily problem, and a problem that couldn’t really be avoided or fixed. I really hope that the rest of my life goes in this upward climb pattern that I am in right now, although I expect to have my ups and downs, but now I at least know that I am prepared for them.
My high school years have been an intense ride, both personal and education wise. A year ago I couldn't tell you who I was, I couldn't look in the mirror and be happy with what I saw, and I definitely was more lost than I seemed. Who would have known that just a couple years later, here I stand, confident in who I am and extremely proud of who I have become. Working on myself was the best project I've ever committed to. I'll never regret the lessons and mistakes, the lost days of my identity and the dark days to get to where I am today, because they make me who I am. What was my mess became my memories and is now my message.
I knew that right after high-school, I would be on a new road to life. For me, college wasn’t a choice. The time to breathe before advancing further in my future projects, the difficult moments instead of discouraging me, these moments give me motivation and the necessary energy to move forward. I am optimist but realistic. My parents taught me that we live in a world that is constantly changing and to succeed we need a smart plan and the ability to adapt and adjust to the changing world environment but more importantly one need to prepare one’s self to succeed. We need discipline and above all an unshakable will to resist difficulties when they happen. “An ongoing work of art” would probably be one of the best ways to describe my life. From very early on in life, I have learn that I can be the artist of my own life through guidance and hard work, I learned that we are the architecture of our life, the artist of our own destiny through work, commitment and determination. Every route taken or not taken will somehow impact our existence and leave a trail like a shooting star in the night sky, the beauty of the trail depends entirely on the nature of our actions in life. This is the first time in my existence I have had the opportunity to write the story of my life in detail. This exercise
My senior year of high school…I want to enjoy people’s company, appreciate my family’s presence, and keep a permanent Polaroid of my “home town” etched in my memory. I have a purpose for the year, I know what I want to accomplish for the future, but I have to remember to make the most out of today because there may not always be a tomorrow.
Looking back now, I can see that people were right when they said that my high school years would be the best years of my life. Most teenagers complain that their lives are unfair and that high school is the worst part. I know this to be true because I have done my share of complaining. Even though I have many responsibilities, probably more than most people my age, my teenage high school years have been very carefree and enjoyable compared to future years as an adult and I have learned many life lessons throughout my years in high school that will prepare me for many of life’s challenges.
